Wrist wraps

Bands, chains, wraps, straps, racks... are you sure this is training related?

Thanks a lot @Cody. I ordered Thursday night so hopefully they’ll go out Monday.

I benched on Thursday without them. I’m not used to handling anything over 225 unwrapped and my wrists buckled forward when I unracked a warmup set. Almost pooped myself.

Got the wraps today (ordered evening of 2/1 so pretty quick). They seem very well made.

Way, way stiffer than my old wraps from Muscle Driver. Feels like a cast on my wrist. Should be great support, but I’m concerned they might be uncomfortable enough to be a distraction. Tomorrow is a heavy bench day for me so I guess I’ll find out.

I had some luck making them more comfortable by breaking them in by folding them back and forth, twisting them, and so on. If you work on them for a few minutes they get a little better. The areas where the velcro is attached need the most attention. Still too stiff for my baby wrists, though.

@Cody, I just got my new wraps. My first impression is that they are just what I wanted. They fit much better to the contours of my wrists and provide a lot of support without being distractingly tight.

The Lilliebridges are slightly thicker and stiffer, but I can make up the difference with the Guardians by just wrapping more tightly. Given my wrist size, the Guardians are more comfortable. I'll bench with them today and post some thoughts when I'm done.

Do the ideal wrist wraps vary from exercise to exercise at all?

I'm trying to find something to help me snatch without bothering my wrist. My wrists are normal sized and I snatch very small amounts of weight. Pioneer has some crossfit wraps that I assume would be good, but I'm not really sure what to look for in a set of wrist wraps.

Update: I really like the Guardians. Would definitely recommend to my small-wristed brethren.

Absolutely - wraps for the Olympic lifts should be much softer and shorter than for the power lifts. I'm not very good at the Olympic lifts, but when I did them it was super obvious that you need wrist mobility, especially for the snatch.

I tried wrapping my wrists exactly once for the Olympic lifts. Do not recommend with powerlifting wraps. Not even sure lighter wraps further up arm would be better or helpful.

Thanks guys, I'll give the 24" pioneer crossfit wraps a try.

I'd do 12-18" for Olympic lifts probably...

Update: I love the phantoms now that they’ve broken in a bit. Way more supportive than my old wraps. I don’t have to (and can’t) stretch them as much so they don’t constrict my wrists as badly either. Makes my wrists happy during squats (I squat thumbs around) and gives me extra confidence when benching.
