Find an adult skills class near you (ideal) or at least a skills class that takes adults (acceptable). I grew up playing and can hang with most average out-of-shape-adult pick-up skates, but depending on what's by you that might not be skilled enough to get invited back. That said, a skills class will get you up to speed ASAP.

The biggest thing about drop-in skates is just knowing people and finding one that works for you and then getting used to the local "actual" rules. i.e. does no checking mean it, how much do they expect you to hustle vs just playing, skill levels. A skills class will let you plug into the local community and help find drop-ins for you. IDK how many rinks are in your area, but there were some decent "skills classes for adult professionals" back when my dad was taking them 25 years ago spread across the local rinks.

Another thing would be just go to stick and puck time (open skating with sticks and pucks) for a while and ask around, I'll bet in a few weeks you'd get plugged into a drop-in game or a local beer league.

Once I got invited to skate with a bunch of UMich's club team, some Varsity kids were there too. Spoiler alert: I was the worst person there by a country mile, but it was still really fun(ny). Did not get invited back.

Thanks for the detailed response. I decided that this was probably going to take more motivation and effort than I was willing or able to put in at this time. Maybe I'll find some pickleball league to do instead. Softball season starts in a few months though, and I'll be busy with that till October.

Finally able to do pullups again after losing weight. Not very impressive, but I've never trained these. Would like to start now that I can actually do a couple here and there.

Made it to 217lbs as of yesterday morning. And the weights feel even heavier now. 7 more to go, although, seeing how easy it was to go from 225 to 217 in a month, maybe I'll try for 200lbs? I haven't been down there since maybe my sophomore year of college. My waist is 38.5" right now. I could see a benefit to maybe getting it well under 38" for health reasons.

Forgot to log this day since this session fit into the middle of a very busy Sunday where I didn't get home till nearly 10pm at which point I promptly crashed, and now I forgot exactly what I did. Maybe DL, OHP, BP, Belt Squat and an Overhead Cable Tricep Extension?

Been super busy at work this week since my client has a large 3GPP standards meeting next week, and they're filing patent applications like crazy trying to get their contributions accepted and made into the new standard. I think in the last 14 days, I've billed 117 hours working 7 days a week, which is nuts. I'm very much looking forward to going on vacation at the end of next week. Anyways, I haven't been eating or sleeping great, and my strength has definitely suffered a little bit. Oh well.

Went downhill skiing yesterday for the first time in 12 years, and only my 2nd time ever. Did pretty well, and didn't fall at all which was nice, but I'm still feeling muscles I didn't know I had. In a first (of probably many such experiences to come, I'm sure), I was totally outclassed athletically by my 7 year old daughter, who took to it like an Swiss born natural. Within about 30 minutes, my daughter waiting for me at the bottom of every run while I was still half way up the hill banking and swerving trying to lose speed. She just went straight down in a straight line every single time. Crazy.

Anyways, here's today lifts.
OHP 5x5 135lbs
Deadlift 4x6 315lbs
BP 4x5 185lbs
Chinups 4x4

I'm still getting weaker as I continue to lose weight (down to 213 today!) and I think I need to just accept the fact that I have to go a little bit lighter, especially on the OHP. I probably only had 1 rep in the tank left on the last couple of OHP sets, and I think I'd be better served by going down to 125lbs or something like that. Taking the big boy plates off is going to hurt the ego, but hopefully in a month or two when I stop trying to lose weight and maintain for a while, I'll get back up there.

Back after a two week hiatus due to catching covid and feeling bleh the week of the 19th of February, and then last week, we went on vacation to Southern California for a week. Fun trip with a couple of days hiking and camping in Joshua Tree, Disneyland, and some touristy things, but vacation with 3 little kids is a lot of work. Really nice to get home yesterday.

Anyways, after not lifting for a couple of weeks it was rough today. I'm sure tomorrow will feel great too. I was planning on squatting, but sitting up from bed this morning, I twisted my knee. Getting old sucks.

OHP 3x5 135lbs, 2x5 115lbs
SGDL 3x5 275lbs
BP 4x4 185lbs
Box Squat 250lbs 2x10
Overhead Cable Tricep Extension 42.5lbs 3x10
Dumbbell Curls 3x10 25lbs

Tempo 3-1-3 Squats 3x5 225lbs
OHP 5x5 125lbs
BP 5x3 205lbs
Overhead Cable Tricep Extension 42.5 3x10
DB Lateral Raises 3x8 20lbs

Woke up out of bed weird or something and twisted my knee. Doing warmups I knew that going full load would not be good, so decided to try some tempo paused squats at 225lbs just to get some action in. Getting old sucks. No obvious incident which causes the twinge, but there it was.
