Thanks homie. I will note that fishwife was right. This kind of break, now that I'm not splinted up, isn't interfering too much with my life or my lifts. At least, not as much as my loss of strength.d0uevenlift wrote:Congrats on the finger.

Strength will return quickly, I bet. Yours wasn't so long of a layoff.

Re: Nanette's Log
If you did use, the hooks would probably effectively lengthen your grip...so you might have to do some kind of deficit pull thing to even it out.
Another thought, maybe just do a bunch a weighted hyper extensions to keep your back Strength up...or at least keep some hypertrophy around.
Could play around with good mornings (extreme caution)

The hooks effectively take out all grip component, right? I think I'm going to just pull with my hands and straps as best as possible. Each day, my finger is getting more and more normal.
About the good mornings... there's no need to do those, my squats turn into good mornings when they're heavy enough.
---
Tuesday 9/26/17
Got home, did laundry, took my dog out, ate dinner, hung laundry, then lifted at 8pm. Being a real adult with real job hours (i.e., cannot train in the middle of the day when I prefer to) sucks. I can't say I miss the stress of grad school though!
HBBS
3 x 5 x 175 @ 9?, 8, 8, with belt
3 x 5 x 135 slow eccentric, no belt. almost tempo squats except I wasn't counting. Trying to get clean reps with lmao1plate.
Press
3 x 5 x 70 @ 9, 9, 10
3 x 5 x 55
I know I need to start benching again, but I really wanted to press today.
Deadlift
3 x 5 x 215 @ all realistically 6 but felt like oh god why am I gasping for breath breathing while deadlifting is hard
with belt, flat shoes, and hook grip
Today's bro stuff was dumbbell rows and dumbbell OHP

work hard, save enough, start your own consultancy, lift whenever you want. This works better if you don't start until your 30s.....chromoly wrote: Tuesday 9/26/17

Back to climbing in no time. Or just chilling on top of the pull up bars, like the guy during set 2 of squats...chromoly wrote:Each day, my finger is getting more and more normal.

I'm hyper jealous that you have a legitimate gym with squat racks and rock climbing. Amazing.

It's pretty wonderful. It's also not very cheap. One of the other locations (these climbing gyms are a chain) has a reverse hyper, which I'm itching to try one day.hector wrote:I'm hyper jealous that you have a legitimate gym with squat racks and rock climbing. Amazing.

Trained for the first time in a long time with caffeine. I felt amazing. Caffeine really helps with the after-work training sessions.
My right elbow has been bothering me recently. Took 2x 600 mg Vitamin I today. Will need to pay attention to squat grip and benching. Right shoulder also annoyed from bench; might need to start at lower weight and bring my grip in a touch.
HBBS
3 x 5 x 180
Need to stop getting so damn lazy. STAY TIGHT. Worked on this with pause squats.
Pause HBBS
3 x 5 x 155
Competition Bench
4 x 5 x 90
Forgot my belt for the first set
Touch-n-Go Bench
3 x 5 x 86
Deadlift in flat shoes, no belt
3 x 5 x 205
3 x 5 x 185 DOH
Bro stuff: OHP with bar x bajillion, db rows with 25 lbs and 15 lbs for lots of sets

Re: Nanette's Log
What delivery method of caffeine did you use? Been thinking about trying using caffeine, but I don't wanna be jacked up for all my work outs, doesn't seem like a good idea long term.
Where are your elbow and shoulder hurting?

Re: Nanette's Log
My intraworkout caffeine of choice is an energy drink. I'm partial to the purple Monsters and sugar free Red Bull. I find that if I have the caffeine while I'm training, I don't have many problems falling asleep after. I am aware this might not work well for everyone; however, I have a very high baseline of caffeine intake during the day.damufunman wrote:What delivery method of caffeine did you use? Elbow and shoulder pain are in the same spots as usual. For elbow, it's the triceps tendon, or so I think. Shoulder is anterior. I can usually alleviate it by avoiding any elbow flare, and also bring my grip in a smidge.

I can have a shit load of caffeine and not have trouble sleeping, but if I have anything with guarana or taurine I struggle to sleep that night

If I have the energy drink and I don't train, I'm too wired to sleep. But I lift, it's less of a problem. *shrug*

A friend of mine competed in the Caffeine & Kilos Deadlift meet today. I went to watch/hang out, and also got a few deadlifts on a deadlift bar.
Deadlift w/deadlift bar
5 x 135
2 x 225
... break to watch lifting ...
5 x 135
3 x 185
1 x 205
1 x 225 w/belt
1 x 245
1 x 265
1 x 285 @ ez
2 x F x 305
Couldn't break 305 off floor twice in a row. That's ok, the deadlift strength will come back soon. Glad to have pulled 285 when I couldn't 6 days ago.

Nah, he was less fat and less cute than I expected. #lessfatlesscute Also gave very long down commands, really made all the lifters hold the bar for a while before setting it down. Everyone had to hold it for a while though, so at least it was consistent.
---
I was hungover this morning, so I didn't make it to the gym until 4 pm. Only had one meal before lifting, so everything was really hard until I bought some caffeine. I am going to need to start buying pre-workout, or somehow get some energy drinks in bulk.
Sunday 10/1/17
HBBS
3 x 5 x 185 with belt
5 x 3 x 155 paused, no belt
Press
3 x 5 x 71.25 @ 8, 8, 9 with belt
5 x 5 x 60 no belt, superset with deadlift warm-ups
Deadlift in flats
5 x 215 (oops, misload) with belt
2 x 5 x 220 with belt
3 x 185, no belt
TnG Deadlift with straps
2 x 10 x 135

Re: Nanette's Log
Nah. Maybe worth it just for getting energy drinks aka preworkout crack.
The issue is that I actually like energy drinks. Caffeine pills are easy but I prefer to drink it. If I take a caffeine pill I feel like I've been punched in the face; energy drinks and coffee are consumed more slowly and thus it's less of a punch in the face than a gentle "hey there buddy, it's time to lift"simonrest wrote: ↑Mon Oct 02, 2017 1:55 am Or:
