@Wilhelm @gymdad150 Thanks, guys. It is interesting how just signing up for a meet can change how you think about training.

Matched best squat and deadlift, got a 2.5kg meet best bench.
Meh. Improved my total anyway.

Also won $100 cash, and a $100 certificate to a supplement store.
Gonna buy my wife more isolate with it.
And a super nice fabric banner for best masters lifter.

Three meets in less than a year.
Not doing another until at least November.

Image

This moved way too easily.
227.5kg was almost certainly there today.

I had missed my 3rd squat, and my 3rd bench, on top of less than 2.5 hours sleep and the drive down, i was not in a very trusting mood.
Went for the safe move to ensure an increased total.
I think my objective awareness was not great at this point.
Oh well, next time.
(graphic is wrong lifter. 222.5kg)

Great job man. You way undershot on the DL, but 2.5 hours sleep is almost worse than none sometimes. I think 230 would have been a safe number there, based on how that moved.

Thanks, H

Not going to bed way earlier than whatever normal schedule i'm on is advisable.
I'm sure i would have gotten more sleep if i had just stayed up to my normal time.

Even though i couldn't lift 490 the last heavy DL training day, that clearly wasn't really relevant.
My 9 days out last heavy DL scheme has never let me down.
I need to remember that even (or especially) on a meet day like this one.

30+ weeks till next meet.
Starting in again with bench Saturday, and will pull 405 tomorrow just to get cued up for the start of the DL blocks in a week.

Today's meet was a qualified success...

I came into the meet feeling pretty good about all my lifts, and training has been as good as I could have hoped for.

Weighed in at 95.8kg, a little short on sleep, but well fed, and well hydrated.

Squats warmed up nicely. Opened at 145kg, and hit it with relative ease. Then things went sideways...on my Second at 157.5kg, I blackout coming up out of the hole. My third attempt ran into the same issue. I haven't had this problem for years, and it showed up today in successive lifts. Color me worried, bordering on scared.

After a profane pity party (held in my car), I came back to face an uncertain fate.

We warmed up Bench extremely conservatively, if this blackout issue was going to continue, it would really show up here...it didn't. Smoked every attempt, hitting 95kg on my third, and had I not had the "problem", 97.5kg was there for the taking.

So buoyed with a bit of confidence, we decided to be as committed as we could, to as big a pull as we could safely muster. 185 / 200 / 215 BOOM. That's my best pull since Chicago, and technically is was a beauty (my knees and back cooperated). Again, without having had the blackout issue, 220kg was easily within reach.

So I atone for the shit show that was Daytona 10 months ago. And even though I didn't hit any PRs today, I found some grit and inner resolve that I thought was lost over the past two years. I'm deeply appreciative for all the support from my teammates today, and everyone here through this arduous road back to being competitive again.

Great job! Having squat not go according to plan could have put you in a tailspin. Great recovery.

I'm 4 weeks out. As of today, I'm still planning to do this meet. Heavy singles coming back. Currently the plan is to stay conservative, maybe just targeting @9 on third attempts. It depends on how I'm feeling. I'm really focused on improving my total, not on PRs. My previous best total is 592.5 kg with a 385 DOTS. That was a 5/9 effort. Even @9, I should be able to improve on that.

I've been flirting with the idea of doing Nationals in Vegas. It isn't convenient. Also there is zero M2 90 kg lifters registered. However, I'm not looking at competition with only lifters in my weight class. As an M2, I'm all in on DOTS. The new pro card for masters is based on DOTS. I'm not competitive yet in that regard, but it also isn't that far away. Historically it has taken >430 DOTS to be in the top 3 for M2. Just to be in the top 10 would be pretty cool.

My total went up 2.5kg, but i gained a kilo bodyweight, so my DOTS went down a point.
Next meet should ne in November, and i need the time after three meets in 8 months.
I'm still glad i did this one. Learned some things that may be useful.

Big congratulations, @gymdad150
Way to stick with it.

I snagged one of the last spots for that meet in November. I think there are only two left now.

South Georgia Barbell Brawl

Edit: Only one left now.

Edit: Well, I'm guaranteed finish in the top 3 of my weightclass/division...

Nice!

I'm expecting the second iteration of the Carrie Boudreau memorial meet to be happening in early November again.
Training for it, and just waiting for the announcement.
