@Wilhelm @KarlM Nice work on signing up. I don't know when I'm going to compete again. It will happen. Just don't know when.

Karl, are you thinking 75kg or 82.5kg class?

Now I am starting to feel left out. Once I'm done with this cut, I would like to just sign-up for a local meet a couple weeks in advance. Unfortunately, that is easier said than done.

Looks like we are starting to get some traction on this thread. Anyone else competing that want's to make it known here? It might be fun to discuss how we are planning on training and peaking for our respective meets.

I'll start. For squat, I have a heavy day and a medium day (heavy and medium in this context refers loosely to overall stress of the session) per week. For bench I've modified my original plan and will stick with two days per week, one heavy and one medium. For deadlift, I have one heavy day and one medium day. My medium day movements for squat, bench and deadlift are SSB, CG Bench and Paused Deadlift, respectively. When I'm 13 weeks out I will wave the volume and intensity according to the GGW program, with modifications (more deadlift and bench volume, less squat volume and less squat frequency). A week before the week I'll pull by deadlift opener for a heavy single, then a couple back off singles at my last warm up. Week leading into meet day, I'll take my squat and bench openers, probably for about three singles each. I still have a good amount of hypertrophy-based movements in the program targeting back, biceps, triceps, shoulders, quads and hammies. I'll drop some of that volume when I get about 3-4 weeks out from competition as needed.

My goals for this meet are 1) get all the way down to the 75 kg weight class, and 2) beat my best competition DOTS score. I weighed 202 lbs for my last meet, and currently have gotten down to about 174 lbs. My second, more long term goal is to qualify for USAPL masters I at 75 kg. I'll need to match my previous best total at 202 lbs at 165 lbs to do that. I think that's doable before I turn 50 and move into the Masters II division.

I’m considering signing up for a RPS meet in May, mostly as a weight loss goal. I’ll make the decision in a month or so, but I rotated in low bar squats for my Friday lower movement. I’m keeping reps and RPE low and mostly just working on getting the low bar rack dialed in. I also randomly bought some knee wraps and would like very much to (finally) squat 4 plates. I haven’t low barred since I signed up for a meet in early 2020, which got Corona-ed. If I sign up for another meet I may trigger another global pandemic though.

Kudos, gentlemen.

March 26th meet

Squat is 2X week using the heavy day pattern from the Gillimgham heavy/light bench program i use.
Day one is top single and the worksets, and day two is just the single
First 12 week block ends with a single 3lbs under my best.
Pretty sure i will open over 400lbs for the first time this meet.
I'm hitting 408 every session from now till the meet (March 26th)
SpoilerShow

This block ends Feb 4th, and i will likely run the program again from the mid point, with a loading bump.
Have to see how things feel by then, but i am picturing dropping the triples to doubles and doing more singles.
Some combination of that, working heavy, dropping more volume, more attempts practice.
It's a fluid concept at this point

I haven't told anyone but my wife so far, but i am open to the possibility i could hit a 200kg squat.
I won't be attempting it if it's not warranted by how training goes
185 opener
195 2nd (5kg meetPR, and at this point 5 kg absolute PR)
200kg ?

Bench also ends that week, and i'll do the same, run the program from the mid point for 6 weeks.
Just as written for bench though.
120kg at the meet is the goal.
It's feeling like that will be no problem.
I have no read on if i could do that for a 2nd, and i have no reason to believe i can/should.
I will play it safe unless it becomes clearly obvious things are going better than i could have hoped.

I've been very dilligent with my weighted dips, and have increased frequency over my (recent) historical norm with those.

Deadlift i have been doing my normal MM 2 week, but i've switched the light SGDL 2nd day for just more heavy comp sets.
No single day two, and on all the heavier week 2s (2 week micro) i knock some weight off those for the secondary day.

Block ends with a 485 single, 5.5lbs under my best.
Going to peak using SSPT singles 2X week and pull last heavy pulls Wednesday before meet week. 9 days out.

This is the DL peak

Day1 | Day 2
weeks vertically.
All singles

Want 227.5kg as a second attempt.

We'll see if i can live up to any or all of this.

I'm six weeks out (more or less).

One more week left in this cycle, and then on to another 4 week cycle, leaving 3 weeks to taper into the meet.

We're already into working up to a heavy single (rpe8ish), and then 2-3 down sets about 15% less for 2-3 reps. Followed up with a boat load of accessory work. So that's a three day program: Squat / Bench / Deadlift , with an SBD Saturday thrown in for good measure.

I don't foresee that my coach will change anything too drastically. We've been working together for 4 years and he's got a fairly good read on what my body can handle. Though I will say that I'm still not back to the volume work (or intensity) that I was prior to my cancer treatments (not to mention the linger Covid crap).

I'm in a better place physically than I was going into Natls in Daytona, but still a ways off my peak of Natls in Chicago.

I'm looking for: Squat 155/160kg, Bench 95/97.5kg, Deadlift 207.5/212.5kg

That will put me in a good position to enter a Powerlifting America meet in October that's being run locally at our gym, and take a run at some PRs (it's been a while).

Thanks! It's a program that has evolved over the years. This past year or so, factors outside my control have required that the volume be lowered, but the intensity has remained relatively intact...as the body allows.

I decided to join the party. I signed up for the following meet:

2nd Annual Heart of Texas USA Powerlifting Meet
Waco, TX
4/30/22

This should keep me focused on strength.
