I'll continue hooking my deads thank you very much.
(But yeah, maybe his supinated arm was flexed a bit at the beginning of the pull)

Ugh, that looked nasty. I have seen some muscle tears among track athletes but seeing it happen slowly like this is weird.

Has anyone ever heard of a biceps detachment occurring with sub-400lb deadlift? I expect I'm safe. But I hook anyway.

Has anyone ever heard of it on a lifting not obviously on steroids?

Also,

No video to post, but in the meet this weekend a guy was doing suicide grip on bench with 330lb, the bar rolled and fell on his chest.

...and ?

-----------------------------------------------

also, you'd think they'd make the monkey grip illegal.
And yes, I've seen the thumbs around grip come undone and drops there too.

But just the chance you could prevent ONE (or more) bad injury by disallowing a grip with a simple rule change.

Well he didn’t die. I thought it was illegal, but apparently not!

I was benching across from a guy who was using suicide grip with well over 500 on the bar. It slipped onto his chest. Me and another no-so-strong guy attempted to help, instead of removing the plates we opted to try and pick up the bar. And that didn't work. To his credit, instead of dying the very strong guy pushed the weight up and re-racked it with no problem - or ill effects, save for ever-present sheepish look on his face for the rest of his session. I like to think I helped. But I probably didn't.

When I saw this thread revived I was sure it was going to be that horrible video of the Auburn U gymnast breaking both of her legs.

she'll be fine (in the end).
gymnasts who get to this level are tough as nails ...
Friday night was my final night as a gymnast. After 18 years I am hanging up my grips and leaving the chalk behind. I couldn’t be prouder of the person that gymnastics has made me to become. It’s taught me hard work, humility, integrity, and dedication, just to name a few. It’s given me challenges and road blocks that I would have never imagined that has tested who I am as a person. It may not have ended the way I had planned, but nothing ever goes as planned.

Thank you Auburn family for giving me a home and a chance to continue doing the sport that will always be my first love. I am honored to have had the privilege to represent the navy and orange AU for the past 4 years with my team by my side. Thank you for letting me share my passion with you. Thank you for letting me be a part of something bigger than myself.

I watched that yesterday for the first and last time. I wish that wasn't a gif. It's so nasty. I have to scroll real fast down the page.

In any case, on IG she says that she's retiring from gymnastics.

Yeah, that's where the quote was from in my post you so fearfully scrolled away from.

Sounds like she was in her 4th year anyways and likely going to be done anyways....has a good attitude about it....moving on...etc.

Both of my sisters were gymnasts, one owns a gym/is head coach.
Kids fall, get twisted up into pritzels, accidents happen, shit is horrorfying .... fucking kids keep on with it while seeing their friends fall to the wayside.

I had no idea that shit was so dangerous or that legs could just snap like that. It makes me dizzy. Yes, I'm a coward.
