I’d like to get more into boutique teas, but I’m way too lazy. For the entry level consumer, teas seem to be a far safer bet in terms of flavor when compared to coffee.

I’d like to try a well-curated cup of coffee one day, but I’ll be damned if I’m going to make it. Too lazy.

Speaking of teas, I was in China on business with my eldest son. We happened to be in a tea growing area and went to a tea shop to buy some to take home. The lady there asked us what tea we wanted and my son said what is the best. She said you probably don't want it as it was upwards of $2000 per small container. I didn't realize that you could spend that much money on tea. Apparently the higher in altitude it is grown the slower it grows and the cost is higher.

Do you have a solution for making good tea whilst at work, without it being a PITA? I used to drink a lot more loose leaf green tea, but it's more cumbersome to make than simply flicking a switch on a crappy pot of coffee...

Maybe I should just make the time to make a good cup of tea in the afternoon...

Our pu-erh talk didn't make it over here, so. Pu-erh.

It's aged/fermented, sometimes sold loose but generally pressed into a cake. Also sometimes stuffed into hollowed out dried mandarin rinds. Generally has an earthy, almost mulchy sort of feel to it. I love it. Reminds me of my favorite kind of wines - if you're into flavors like cabernet franc or even just prefer something from the Rhone Valley to something out of Napa, go for it.

Edit: Please don't get it bagged, it needs to be loose or a cake or whatnot. You'll need a tea store or the internet, nothing at a typical american grocery store will be worthwhile. It's on the expensive side - the cheaper stuff you're looking at a 1.5-2x premium over other black teas, and it only escalates from there. It's worth it, and you can re-steep the same leaves at least 2 times, sometimes more depending on strength.

Also it could just be me or psychosomatic, but the caffeine fro pu-erh effects me differently, in a focused and productive way. Unless I have like 3 strong cups in which case I scurry around like a frantic lunatic trying to do 9 things at once. I'll actually get like 7 of them done but I'm annoying AF while doing them.

I was a Kickstarter supporter of this nifty little thing. I can brew three or four infusions a day with no hassle. Its not for sale anymore, but something similar should be helpful:

This tea is fantastic.

You don't need a machine to brew one cup of loose tea.

Just put the tea in the cup, pour in water, wait for the leaves to settle. Drink that last sip carefully.

Do they sell Twinings Tea in the States? I saw a box of Tetley Tea in the background of one of Rip's vids on Facebook while back, so maybe UK teas are available over there. Twinings 1706 Strong English Breakfast Tea is perfection in a tea cup. With a dash of milk, of course.

Yes, they do. I just did a little grocery store Earl Grey taste test. Twinings was my favorite.
