Does everyone know something I don't? How has no one asked about this yet?

Anyway...

- get back to normal fat instead of just fat
- compete once or twice and don't suck
- hassle muff until he squats 405
- build a barn or an addition or something
- don't go further into debt hell doing it
- keep the shitbox from bursting into flames
Third goal is by far the most critical.

In 2020 I fell between a push boat and a barge breaking my right ankle in like four different ways and this September I had a piece of equipment fall on my right leg and peel the skin off my shin from about a couple inches under my knee to my ankle.

If something happens this summer I don't expect to have a right leg.

I was just telling myself it was a backhanded reference to waking up next to someone unadvisable after partying a little too hard. I am not sure if the truth is better or worse. Have you considered armour for at least one leg?

- get down to 12%-ish bodyfat without cratering my lifts too much
- figure out this weird bench asymmetry I have going on (might not be fixable but I'll try anyway)
- don't perform a single barbell squat (except Hatfield squats)
- finally break the Rippetoe conditioning so I don't keep going back to barbell squats

Get and stay at 195bw

Reconcile myself that due to age, bw , injuries there will be no PRs in my future and go to some more realistic ones:

Bench -255
Front squat - 235
Dead lift -425

I wasn
t going to post here, this usually attracts a lot of long-winded pontification as a thread theme. And I don't think too much about "Gym Rules" as a thing. But stopping to pontificate lead me to conclude that I do follow some rules even if I don't think about them.
1. Always control the negative. Be it the eccentric portion of a lift or an attitude.
2. There is a big difference between lifting and training. Be there to train.
3. Do the stuff you are weak at, the weak points are what hold you back.
4. Bigger is better and size matters. Muscle dysmorphia is normal.

@Hardartery, I think you may have meant that post for the other thread.

That said, got any goals?

Probably. My goals are to get my Squat back, and actually go do a Static Monster or something. I still want the Masters WR for Axle DL, and I'll get it one of these days I just don't know if it will be this year or not. I want to maybe go watch WSM in Myrtle Beach this year too so it depends on how the schedule shakes out.

'Need' Goals:
1ct Bench 315
Get a PR on my LB Squat
Deadlift 500
Shoot for a 185 OHP

'Want' Goals:
Set an Incline Bench PR
Front Squat 315
Increase my Quad hypertrophy

None of these are hard and fast, but giving metrics helps focus in on what to do.

Hit 350/255/495 @ 175 early last year (squat and deadlift PRs), and then just dealt with setbacks left and right, so idk

short term goal is get back to where I was at with some momentum, then maybe 365/265/525 would be nice by the end of the year

Internal Goals
Train and eat consistently and intelligently in a way to facilitate strength and hypertrophy gains. I'm this close to doing bodybuilding for a year or two.

External Goals
Be accused of taking steroids by a muggle. Set individual and total PRs at a meet.

1. Do arm isolation twice a week, do abs+cardio at least once a week.
2. Train weighted chin ups, weighted dips, and overhead press the whole year, even through PL meets at least 1x/week.
3. Take creatine and hit my protein consistently.
4. Aim for actually using MacroFactor instead of giving Greg Nuckols $72 and not using it.
5. Maintain a smol calorie surplus for more than half the year. Doesn't matter if it's 200-300 calories, since realistically that's all it takes for me to see an improvement in my rate of progress compared to maintenance/slight accidental deficit.

-Change my bulk/cut weight range. I'd like to reset things so my bulked bodyweight is somewhere around 270. I'm probably gonna have to do this by spending the first half or so of the year working to cut down lower than that. I think I've gotten smarter about bulk dieting, especially after divorcing myself from the "eat more=recover more" mindset. Being very heavy is rather annoying, so this is priority #1. Also want to look good for my wedding.

-Continue to investigate other training strategies. I got my start doing the barbell 5s, now I want to see how doing assistance type work more akin to how bodybuilders train can help those continue to improve. Had some encouraging results especially on my bench at the end of 2022, but I can't say for sure it was the assistance work and not just upping weekly bench volume. Also seeing how the bodybuilding type stuff works on a cut, if it helps keep more of the muscle intact.

-I hope to get at least one of my 200/300/400/500 goal numbers by year's end. It's entirely possible I ended 2022 with the potential to bench a 300 single, I pulled off 240x5x5 for my last heavy bench workout. I can't be certain how much all the cutting is going to affect this though.

- Lose 3-8 kg
- Not get much weaker.
- Get over this niggling shoulder that's keeping all my presses down and get my bench back up again.

I decided to rewrite and formalize a 2023 "goals" because some demented part of my room temperature IQ ass is telling me to try to do something so:

Everything will be graded on a scale of 1-5 stars to try to asses how likely I am to achieve the goal.

1 = Will likely be done as a matter of routine
2 = May take some cajoling
3 = Difficult, but doable
4 = Very difficult, will take sustained effort and willpower that I am not capable of. Fool enough to almost be it, cool enough to not quite see it.
5 = Likely impossible, but as Billy Corgan said "when your life is so so dreary: dream"

I don't expect to accomplish any of these, so this is mostly just idle day dreaming.

Fitness Goals

- get down to 165lb~ and stay there. I'm a little porker at 175lb and I will eventually get old, fat and bald so I want to stay at a lower body weight when I inevitably quit fitness when I'm in my mid 30's * * * *
- Squat 405x1 * * * * *
- Bench 225x5 * * * * *
- Bench 205 3x5 * * * *
- Squat above 355lbs * * *
- Squat 375x1~ at 165lbs * * * *
- Squat 315x5 * * * *
- Run a 10k in one clip * *

- Talk to one male human outside the context of work or school in a non formal context * * * *

- Take psilocybin (which has been decriminalized in Oakland, eat my ass) and develop schizophrenia * *
- Meditate on a semi-routine basis (at least twice a week) * * *
- Commit suicide * * * * *
- Drive somewhere stupid at least once * * *
- Plant a tree somewhere where it's not supposed to be * * * *
- Plant some flowers somewhere they are not supposed to be * * *
- Waste less time on the internet * * * * * * * * * *

- Learn Mayonnaise by Smashing Pumpkins on the drums * * *
- Finish learning to play through the entire seminal Radiohead 1995 album The Bends on the drums *
- Play paraddidles cleanly at 240BPM * * * *
- Build up enough endurance and finesse to slop out single strokes at 240BPM for bursts without roasting my hands * * * *
- Take guitar lessons for the majority of the year since I have nothing fucking better to do anyway * * * * *

Mechanical Goals

- Do the lifters and pushrods on my daily *
