@Hardartery Nuckols agrees with you. Concurrent training doesn't make you weaker. And if you need it for your sport then you should do it. It is more a matter of recovery resource allocation. If you are recovering fine, then you are good to go.

Personally, I just follow the steps guidelines at this point. I ran marathons, etc. like an idiot for over a decade. I'm done with all that. Lift, walk, and watch my fatness level. But I'm just a powerlifter. It doesn't get me too winded.

Stop bursting my bubble, would ya?
We could always have more kids; that'll keep us busy enough, don't you think?I don't think there is anything special about running besides being a pretty fundamental human movement pattern, and something like an air bike is almost certainly better from a risk-reward ratio, and 10K steps is probably better from a health-promoting standpoint, but I need to chase my kid down a hill on his bike, so...

Pretty much yeah to all of this.Hardartery wrote: ↑Fri Apr 29, 2022 9:07 am ...
I sincerely doubt it had any serious effect on fibre conversion at all. my opinion changed, based on experience, that a minimum of cardio fitness is super beneficial for strength and probably has other health benefits that are difficult to document over the short term. Just being lean isn't the same as being in a healthy place cardio-vascularly, for performance as well as health.
That said, running marathons is probably a bad idea if hypertrophy or strength are your goals, but honestly they are probably a bad idea in general and an example of taking something too far and going from a positive activity to a negative one. Extremes are usually unhealthy in some way.

Re: 2022 Conditioning Party!!!!
Been doing conditioning since 6 weeks.
Just 3 days of LISS on the stationary bike on my non lifting days. > 85 rpm, heart rate at 60-75% ( i aim for 125-130) for 30-40 minutes. Have also begun to sprinkle in some sprints with a heart rate up to 140/145. It's harder than i would have expected it. But i feel good about it and i think it does not affect my recovery at all. It would be nice if it would lower my blood pressure. But i have also read that maybe a higher frequency would be even more better for treating high bp, because the acute impact lasts only 24 hours or so.

Mini leg blasters were my wife's primary lower-body movement while letting her hip flexor settle down. Over a couple of months, she worked up to 10 rounds on the 1:30, multiple times per week. She's now back to running, squatting, deadlifting, etc., but still does the leg blasters once a week.

Saw this thread and decided to try leg blasters. Did 5 rounds with 30 seconds rest between. One of the most horrible things I've ever done.

Re: 2022 Conditioning Party!!!!
Beastly. Did you do the 10/5 mini blasters or the full 20/10 rep ones? Either way it’s pretty impressive on 30 seconds rest.

5 rounds of full leg blasters with 30 seconds rest...
that's where the original six-week Military Athlete "Afghanistan Pre-Deployment Training Program" ends.

Re: 2022 Conditioning Party!!!!
I’m doing 4-5 sets of micro blasters (8/4 reps) with 2 minutes rest. Lungs are fine (duh, long rests…), but if you look at jump lunge depth from first set to last, it’s funny.
I’m doing these before my main bench and I had a bit of trouble with leg drive. The quad pump is sick.

Re: 2022 Conditioning Party!!!!
@augeleven I did the full master blasters and it was a pain like nothing I've experienced before.
@asdf I have been doing metcons pretty regularly over the past year, so I think they prepared me a bit. Still, I could barely walk when I went for my regular walk today.

I had to google leg blasters and, assuming I’m looking at the right thing… y’all can keep it.

I almost threw up just watching a video of people doing leg blasters.

Re: 2022 Conditioning Party!!!!
I’m changing gears and starting Memorial Day Murph training. I’m sick of the assault bike anyway.
After a few running sessions, I’m reminded of the fact that I can run super slow (10:00+ mile) for a long(ish) time, but I have a lot of trouble going any faster, even for short distances.
Anyone else murphin’ this year?

I used to be a Murph- doer like you, but then I took a tendinitis to the elbow.
I’m slowly testing the waters with pull-ups. If the elbow seems like it can handle it, I might do it. I wanted to actually train it up this year, especially since I think I was about 30 pounds lighter than the last time I did it.

I saw that in your log. I’d like to do it weighted this year, but my knees are JUST now feeling better after months of not feeling good.augeleven wrote: ↑Tue May 03, 2022 3:34 pmI used to be a Murph- doer like you, but then I took a tendinitis to the elbow.

First time using the Echo. Just 5min of easy pedaling, but God damn this is a whole different thing than the Airdyne. Harder to just do a lazy relaxed pedal. 1/10 the noise. Absolutely no residual power from a big push left after, you can't get a really hard crank and let it ride for a cycle or two.

That’s exactly what I’ve heard about that thing. Even the Assault Bike has some amount coasting. Echo sounds like torture.Allentown wrote: ↑Wed May 04, 2022 6:23 am First time using the Echo. Totally impressive. As are the 25 rounds of Cindy, 5x10 L-sit chin-ups, etc. that I see on the last page of your training log.

Maybe you could sub a different movement? Chin-ups instead of pull-ups... or dumbbell rows?
