2022 Conditioning Party!!!!

Let’s get our conditioning together in 2022!!

I’m going to use this thread to talk about conditioning goals and programming. Feel free to dump your plans here too. It’s a party!!

For me 2020-21 was all about figuring out how to run and lift concurrently. I built an aerobic base, but no “conditioning”

I’m going to try to do at least one conditioning a day for 2022, with each month getting a different focus, only to keep it interesting and to push it because I know at the end of the month the focus will change.

For me January’s focus is burpees. I want to log at least 25 burpee sessions before February, I would like to get in 1000 burpees in January. The stretch goal is a 100 burpee time trial under 10 minutes. We’ll see…

Some mythical strength blog posts that inspired me to make 2022 the year of conditioning:

Also, inb4 Pavlov, Skinner, salivation of any kind, bell puns etc.

Innnnnnn!

I'm doing "The Year of the Engine" from Gainslab. It purports to use varied interval time domains to train different energy systems and aspects of conditioning, specifically to build a better "engine" for CrossFit type workouts.

It's mostly designed to be used with a rower, bike erg, or assault bike, but running can be used as well.

I had this vague goal of trying to get my resting heart rate to 45 bpm, although I'm not sure how to go about it.

And yes Mythical Strength's site is remarkable, I love reading his stuff.

My soft goal right now is one HIIT and one LISS session a week. Same day is fine. Yearly goal is two 1mi runs a month, so, not exactly a major hurdle but something I will need to force myself to work in.

Some notables disagreed with and/or dismissed him when he made a brief appearance on the SS forum years ago. I suspect those views may have changed significantly.

I would love to see a debate on programming between him and Rip, I am convinced it would be very entertaining.

Before I went off the rails early 2021, My resting heart rate was 50. Right now its 60. But I'm not working and my only form of cardio atm is rolling around on the couch... So...

I guess I'm not doing anything about it and get back to 50bpm after two weeks back on the job. 8-)

Aunt Edith sez: I hope my bloodpressure goes back down too, right now it's 150-160/90, was 110-120/70 before. Hope it's not the meds. :?

This is the best part.

Rip: I wonder what process advanced lifters use to get their deadlifts up to 700, if deadlifts are not good for strength.

Mythical Strength: Right now I am making use of ROM progression ala Paul Anderson. I managed 650 at a bodyweight of 200lbs about 5 months back [...]

The guy was probably in the top 3 strongest people on the forum. What happened to when you can pull 500 (then 600 after too many 500's had wrong opinions) you can have an opinion?

Yeah, I can see why he wouldn’t be in a rush to join a forum. He is pretty active on r/weightroom. He seems like an overall cool guy despite the fact he doesn’t deadlift /s.

Holy guacamole! Like my father used to say, “The internet is forever.” I just wonder cringe at what I’ve surely posted before.

Regarding conditioning;

I’m only halfway through week 2 (5 sessions per week) and already feeling way more comfortable in the different cardio zones. Like your body quickly figures out it’s not actually going to die.

Regarding the tangent with Rip and conditioning/training, let’s keep that discussion in the proper subforum. Thanks!
