Rate My RPE! (sorry no dik pics)

Post by mbasic » Thu Nov 02, 2017 10:30 am

I'm new to RPE.

Do you think this is a "@8" ? ... aka "I could've done two more?"

You can see it slowing down at rep 3.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

190#x3@8 Pres1.Oh

This felt much worse than it looked on video.... bar-speed-wise.

Oh, and any advice on the pressing form would be welcome as well :)

8 or 7.5, depending how well you can grind. 6 if you are Gilchrest.

Looks like a 7 or 7.5 to me. But I'm pretty slow and grindy.

Rating the RPE of someone else is even more speculative than rating your own.

Best way to find out is to go to failure.

Very true. Only way to be sure is to do a set of three, rate it, rest 5 minutes, then do that weight again to failure.

I'll offer a guess of 8.

I'll also say that RPE in a single snapshot is really hard to guess on video. An onlooker would need a significant amount of data and history to give you a good rating.

Don't go to failure on press though. It's not worth it.

I'm no expert but I was told you need to do it like "this" to get above 6.99

heres 185x5@10:

I know,
a whopping 5 lbs less right,
counting precious minuscule gainzZz as they barely come ...

Trying to figure out if I'm going the right direction. OR if I'm fooling myself.
I think the 190x3 was @8.
But it felt moar hard compared to how "easy" it looked on video.

Just curious as to why you think that? I've done it a few times with no issues that I recall.

I’ve gotten nagging strains when I’ve gone to failure.

That's the rub in asking for input on RPE, it did look pretty damn easy for you.
