Reminds me of that Jimmy Kimmel spoof.

It makes me think that the infrastructure crisis of lagging road maintainence could actually solve the obesity epidemic in the US where people spend so much time in their cars by disabling shock absorbers.

Probably better for the training forum, but the title of this thread reminded me that I’ve been curious about Wendler leaving barbells behind and whether his new shit is worthwhile or a gimmick (or both).

This was posted in August but he’d been going in this direction for awhile previously IIRC, from what I saw on just his site. I don’t read his free forum at T-Nation (shudder) and am not a member of his paid forum.
He’s clear that he still believes in barbells and just personally is done, but I wonder what value, if any, is in his weight vest / BW suggestions or if one would do just as well making it up on their own.

Wendler is a pretty clever dude.DCR wrote: ↑Fri Dec 31, 2021 3:01 pmhttps://www.jimwendler.com/blogs/jimwen ... an-average

He certainly is, at both training and marketing.mgil wrote: ↑Fri Dec 31, 2021 3:31 pmWendler is a pretty clever dude.DCR wrote: ↑Fri Dec 31, 2021 3:01 pmhttps://www.jimwendler.com/blogs/jimwen ... an-average

I don’t mean to suggest that the average person has his background / knowledge by any means. I only mean to say that this type of training (which I did for a few years, sans weight vest) often comes down to choosing exercises you like and doing a shitload of volume, consistently, and not necessarily with the intent to progress it. I have to wonder what a paid forum member is getting. (Of course, perhaps nothing in this regard - it may still be all barbell enthusiasts seeking advice, despite the leader’s change in direction.)

Thanks for the link. If Wendler has a bodyweight training plan, I'd like to see it. I do a fair amount of bodyweight stuff (in addition to barbell lifts and running), and it definitely took me a while to figure things out. Most of what I do now are variations of things I picked up from Military Athlete or CrossFit.

We are all fools. The answer is 5 - 4 second sprints with 45 second rest periods every hour.

Just shared this in a group chat in which at least two neurotic dudes immediately are going to start doing it.aurelius wrote: ↑Sat Jan 01, 2022 11:13 am We are all fools. The answer is 5 - 4 second sprints with 45 second rest periods every hour.

Re: Canel your gym membership / throw away your barbells
I can't speak for its current state, but I was a paid member 4 or 5 years ago and it was excellent. There were a few posts in particular that I still remember. For example, one guy was complaining about not being able to do the program since he could not flat bench without pain. Jim was incredulous about how the guy was mentally flogging himself, and said something along the lines of "Take this as an opportunity to get really strong on the incline press instead. You have to piss with the dick God gave you."
There were also several forum members pressing 300+ pounds, a feat that never ceases to amaze me.

Even the 531 group on Facebook was significantly stronger than the SS groups several years back.
The playing with the hand your dealt line is important. Being monotonous about one program being the only way forward is where the false dichotomy begins. Seated presses, dumbbell work, whatever are fine substitutes for general health and will make someone strong. Then again, there’s an inherent flexibility that’s baked into 531 that’s eschewed in SSNLP.
Anyhow, kinda on topic, I went by one of the local PFs and it wasn’t terribly busy. I’m wondering how this pandemic is impacting their business model?

Re: Canel your gym membership / throw away your barbells
Went to my local Esporta/LAFitness yesterday and saw mainly the regulars who are always there. It's nice to not have the normal January crowd. On the other hand, it's this crowd that signs up in January and then stops by February but keeps on paying that keeps the place open and affordable for those of us who use it.
