Meredith Alwine won the women's 71kg gold. Too bad the US team is doing their training all wrong, lol. Maybe Rip can explain to her how awful she's doing with that training.

Yesterday, I think. There are lots of news articles covering it. Boxing and modern pentathlon were also dropped. I also received the following email from USAW.
I think that that is the thing that Telander was going off about yesterday. It technically isn't "Out", it just isn't in unless the required reforms happen. Yes, it's PROBABLY going to be out, because the morons at the IWF aren't going to fix anything. They'll burn down the house before they'll move out of it, so there's that.asdf wrote: ↑Fri Dec 17, 2021 9:28 pmYesterday, I think. There are lots of news articles covering it. USA Weightlifting Statement On LA28 Initial Olympic Program
The following statement is attributed to USA Weightlifting Chief Executive Officer Phil Andrews, USA Weightlifting International Relations Director Ursula Papandrea and USA Weightlifting Board Chair Paula Aranda:
USA Weightlifting acknowledges and shares the concerns of our community around the sport’s future in the Olympic Games.
The situation as it stands right now is the sport is not included in the Los Angeles 2028 initial Olympic sports program, and has been given four conditions to participate in Paris 2024. The International Olympic Committee has, however, provided a road map to the International Weightlifting Federation to earn our place in 2028. If this is followed, we’re hopeful that weightlifting will be confirmed on the LA28 program at the 2023 IOC Session.
The four conditions are as follows:
1) Stabilization of the IWF governance, which currently delays the transition towards an effective culture change
2) Confirmation there will be no relaxation of the eligibility criteria, or application of said criteria, in the current IWF Constitution
3) No further delays of the IWF elections
4) An Olympic qualification system for Paris 2024 that accounts for the doping history of each nation and available quotas to each
USA Weightlifting, supporting its international relations director and IWF presidential nominee, Ursula Papandrea, stands ready to work with those across the sport interested in ensuring the sport may participate at our home Games in Los Angeles. Members can be assured of our continued interest and commitment to remaining an Olympic sport.

"The situation as it stands right now is the sport is not included in the Los Angeles 2028 initial Olympic sports program"
I think it's getting dropped for Paris, and that is all she wrote. But, I think it's a technicality whether it is "In" or "Out". If they do the things prescribed to be in Paris, I think they are technically also in for 2028. But they won't. So in the end, it won't matter. The only way forward for Weightlifting is a completely new governing body and don't worry about the Olympics. Drop testing, drop the stupid Press Out rule. Pull the Crossfitters and maybe align with Strongman and follow that playbook. I could see a joint Strongman/Weightlifting thing as being really cool to have. The technical, precise stuff with fancy bars and weights alongside essentially the opposite format in Strongman. Maybe bring back the press or add odd lifts as an extra draw. People would really dig watching some guys go for a Bent Press WR as a sideshow. Or a Jefferson DL, or whatever weird ass thing they have never heard of. That brings in the stats and historical tidbits that make it interesting to the general public, and if you have decent announcers it would do well.asdf wrote: ↑Sat Dec 18, 2021 10:25 am"The situation as it stands right now is the sport is not included in the Los Angeles 2028 initial Olympic sports program"
It's currently out. They *might* be able to get it back in, but currently it's out. Note that the email also said that that the IWF has to meet four conditions in order for the sport to remain in Paris 2024. I wouldn't be surprised if they muck things up and the sport is dropped from Paris as well.
The IOC has successfully put pressure on the IWF, but has yet to get a Coup de Grax effect or whatever.Hardartery wrote: ↑Sat Dec 18, 2021 10:35 am think it's getting dropped for Paris, and that is all she wrote.
The Olympics is stupid in general, as far as I'm concerned. Too many "Sports", too much nonsense. The whole point seems to be countries getting to puff their chests out over winning medals, which is showing how much better they are than are countries. It promotes Nationalism heavily, which is a hugely effective mid-control drug. People are all bent about masks and vaccines for an actual transmissable disease being power grabs. Nationalism is a much more effective control, it can be used to manipulate the masses very effectively without them realizing that they are being controlled. They become willing servants. To compete without that flag is to complete without benefit officially to the government of your country, and to limit or even maybe eliminate government support. You drop Weightlifting from the Olympics, you lose the government support and money because the government no longer receives a benefit. Realistically, it is one giant mind control experiment in group delusion. It also makes vast corrupt practices like what goes on in the IWF not just possible but likely and easy.mbasic wrote: ↑Tue Dec 21, 2021 4:02 amThe IOC has successfully put pressure on the IWF, but has yet to get a Coup de Grax effect or whatever.Hardartery wrote: ↑Sat Dec 18, 2021 10:35 am think it's getting dropped for Paris, and that is all she wrote.
IOC "threatens".
The IWF does some shit/reforms, but not enough.
IOC "threatens" again.
The IWF does some more stuff/things ....
I think were just seeing this.
If IWF enacts some more reforms, like elect a whole new congress, and throw the old guard (doper countries) out....
sure, Paris will be fine.
Its all kinda bullshit though.
How is are the Russian athletes able to show up in the Olympic under the no-flag-flag-gizmo? And you want the IWF/WADA to really crack the whip on these athletes/countries. Seemed like the whole scene is talking out of both sides of your mouth.
yep to about 95% of this.Hardartery wrote: ↑Tue Dec 21, 2021 6:29 amThe Olympics is stupid in general, as far as I'm concerned. Too many "Sports", too much nonsense. I think that is true. It would hurt short run, but long run it would be better. Get the dirty bastards out and then the people that actually love the sport (Not the money) can make reforms and make it healthy again. I think the commercial viability is probably better without the Olympics pressure dictating a lot of the direction of the sport as well. It seems to exist largely just for that, instead of being a sport that also happens to be contested at the Olympics. Olympic acceptance would ruin Strongman or Powerlifting IMO, as it has ruined Weightlifting.mbasic wrote: ↑Tue Dec 21, 2021 7:01 amyep to about 95% of this.Hardartery wrote: ↑Tue Dec 21, 2021 6:29 amThe Olympics is stupid in general, as far as I'm concerned. Many have argued the best thing could happen to weightlifting, is for a quad or two to get banned.
All of the dirty money, desire, gov't chest-puffing, etc. would evaporate.
Many of the dirty coaches and scrupulous admin-types would lose their jobs ...
