I need it to be extra effective on Sunday, because the meet starts, like, pre-dawn. We will squat in darkness, like nocturnal beasts. Around like the second flight of presses, the sun will rise, as if pressed overhead by a celestial heavyweight. Noon will crown the podium.

Glad you are OK.

How long till your meet now?
Am i remebrering correctly that you have a meet upcoming?
It was a nice easy fall, we just slid down gently on our side on some very smooth concrete. I'm going to have an epic scab, is all.

I'm lifting in Tom's meet on Sunday. After the layoff and the strain, I'm not in a very good state to compete, but it should be fun anyway. See some great lifting, maybe PR my deadlift.

Hip still hurts about the same amount as before, but I'm not on ibuprofen anymore, so maybe it's actually a little better. 155 didn't feel like anything much, except for the ouch. No clue what I'll be able to do on Sunday, will have to try to feel it out while warming up.

Meet! In kg:

sq 84, 102
pr 54, 58, (60)
dl 155, 165, 175

Dear Leader said to punt on the squat, since my hip was still hurting on Friday. 84 felt good enough that I went back for another. 102 (~225 lb) felt light but ouchy.

The press didn't feel all there, but I went for the 1 kg PR anyway and missed it.

5 kg PR on the deadlift! Only 20 pounds away from lmao4pl8. I got one red light on attempt #3 for an insufficiently smooth lockout, but I'll take it.

Much gratitude to meet director, staff, other lifters, and audience, but especially meet director and staff, whose labors were Herculean.

I am so excited to resume normal training, fix this hip, and return to the path of ill gains.

Today I just winged it on the squat, but henceforth I will Starr it. 20x3, 4x/week, increasing weight from the empty bar.

My press is feeling sulky, but it will come around as I keep pressing 3x/week.

Also, I will now stop neglecting CHIN-UP JIHAD 2018. Seventy-two houris await me in the garden of being able to do a chin-up. No, seventy-three. Seventy-five!

Holy hell that a solid deadlift. Nicely done considering the hip injury

Smooth and fine. 20-rep squats are a slight cardiovascular challenge even at babby weight. I look forward to the mountainous character they will build in me over the next couple weeks.

Threw in an extra set of light deadlifts since I'm not squatting heavy. They were fine. I don't know how to work on my lockout issues, which only show up when the weight is so heavy that I can't use my brain during the lift.

Thanks! I can't feel the injury at all during any deadlifts, so it seemed fine to go hard.

Bench was supposed to be 5, but it didn't, so triples instead, then a rather steep backoff (85% instead of the usual 80%).

I'm trying to switch all my presses to hard mode, starting from the rack position, instead of breathing at the top and getting the stretch reflex at the bottom. So I did the first two sets like that, failed the last rep of the second set, tried again and got it, then switched back to easy mode for the rest of my sets.

I didn't lock out the fifth deadlift because my grip started slipping (scary on the OPB, which feels like it's going to take your skin along if it goes). Went back to clean up the fifth rep.

This was yesterday's and today's workouts combined, since yesterday I went hiking on way too little food and sleep.

My shoulders still feel fried from volume presses on Sunday. Maybe I recover slower from Hard Mode Press? My shoulder joints still feel all crunchy. So I swapped out intensity press for light deadlift. Saving the heavy presses for Thursday.

Squatting still hurts a bit, but less at the end than in the beginning.

On both press triples, I did the first two reps in hard mode and the last rep in easy mode.

Benches were messy but they happened. I don't know how I made this take two hours! Dragging my feet, probably. I miss fives. They are going to seem so quick after this business with the 20s is over. Hip still hurts, but probably less now.

I thought I was interested in someday doing heavy 20s and seeing Jesus, but I get less interested every time I do a light 20. Standing there with double digits on my back rationing breaths like it's 2007 and I'm doing CrossFit, dang.

This was very character-building. I get to go down to 15s next time, and I have a plan that leads to 5s in like two more weeks, so that's lovely.

All the presses except the last rep of the first set were in hard mode. Right shoulder felt weird after the third set and started hurting after the fourth, but it went back to feeling fine after I was done pressing.

The third deadlift rep at 330 started doing the bad thing during lockout. I took a couple minutes, then went back for the last two reps, which became somewhat better when I tried to think, starting at knee level, of raising the chest and pulling the bar back. My 5rm has been bumping up against 330 for a while now. It is time to break on through to the other side. I will switch, next week, to a top 3 followed by another 3 at 90%.

I also enjoyed triples a lot! After my adductor gets better, I'll probably go back to 5s on VD and a couple of triples on ID.

I've been doing 5-10 squats at 45 and 95 before hitting work weight, and these warm-ups still hurt, but the 15s don't really, or else the general suffering drowns out any petty adductor complaints.

I've been noticing that I feel faster on my bike. Am I being tricked into doing cardio?

When the ass gets involved in press, then you know you're working!
