Lil L should understand the physics better. The CCCP is disappointed.

I've been training with some regularity but the #s are too low to note as it is mostly just reconditioning. Now I did squat up to 160kg x5 (with some knee discomfort) which I can't complain about, even if my rep PR for that weight is 10 or 12 or something. Some interesting notes though:

I managed an OHP 1RM PR at 91kg / 200lbs, RPE = 9 or so. This came out of nowhere on a day where I was just supposed to get to RPE 8 for 2 reps, but I was feeling good and powered on. In the video my elbows were maybe a touch soft but fuck it I'm calling it a training make and putting myself in the 200lb club. Only took 9 years of training TROLLOLFUCKINGLOL. I think having an elbow that that close to a proper bottom position and that isn't in pain all the time helps.

I also benched 110kg the other day for a paused single. PR also, and probably due at least partly to the improved elbow, but mostly because I've almost never bothered trying to max out on bench. I did 108kg for 3 or 4 once, back in 2011 when I was seriously training bench.

Lil'L came to Boston for a few days last week but we didn't bang.

Jeezus bajeezus WTF happened?

I've been training a little bit, mostly just to check that I still can. I had to have a smashed molar extracted and they put me on a lot of Vitamin I. When that ended I noticed my knees were better. Noice. Last I checked, I was able to squat 150kg for 6, RPE 8 or so. Strength is down from not doing it, but at least I am still in the 3-playt club and it does not hurt. I also benched about 200lbs for 6x6 with little rest, so that's still there-ish, and squatted 185kg for a single several weeks ago with no warmup, just to make sure I was still in the 400 club...barely. But we were so close to 500 in 2017 before the gears all shifted. Dammit. That said, I don't look or feel great though. Weightlifting itself doesn't have a huge conditioning effect, but clearly I was benefiting from it, as right now I definitely tire more easily and look a bit fluffier though that might just be my bigorexia talking.

Here's a big disruption though: there was a big personnel shakeup at work over the summer and in the process they tried to promote me and give me more work but without any significant pay bump, plus my new boss (my old boss's boss) would have been a Machiavellian snake. I did what any sales professional would do and tried to negotiate. It wasn't looking great but in the process I humored a few recruiters on social media hoping to generate more leverage for myself....and in the process received an offer for a similar job but with better compensation package than I could possibly have hoped for at my old place, and smarter coworkers too. Travel schedule to remain the same, after we're all vaccinated.

So training took a huge hit while I transitioned out of one job and into this one. There's also going to be a big disruption next year, when I relocate to their HQ........in California. Not gonna lie I've gotten quite used to the East Coast and all its nonsense, so I'm pretty apprehensive about this move. It's Northern California too, where I don't actually know anyone anymore since we all scattered after college. Career-wise though this was a serendipitous opportunity too good to pass up, so here we go.

Maybe you'll see me in a Cal Strength video though?

Congrats!

If I could move anywhere from Massachusetts, Northern California would be on the short list.

The other day I DL'ed up to 160kg x10, and did some clean complexes. My knees remain healthy but my elbow has good days and bad days, which is annoying. I am "training" mostly to justify shitposting.

Sorry for the necro, just catching up after being away forever. Is this pistol squats with 40kg added?
a) holy fuck
b) how do you hold the weight? dumbells by side, barbell (crazy)?

Congrats on the new job

No necro, since I am technically still training, just lazy about logging. Strength is down though because of all the inconsistencies. Single leg squats with elevated front foot meaning the front foot is on a bench or something, and lower the back knee towards the ground. Looks like a lunge up a hill. I can definitely do 0 pistols..

Pervy friends (@mgil @ChasingCurls69) I'm also missing some training sessions due to the recent involvement of a freaky ladyfriend. She trains too, but mostly I've just been picking up minor hammie and back injuries because of her ideas. Still moving sooner rather than later, so there's probably an expiration date on this thing, but for now we're riding the tiger,

Thanks you guys! I mean, I wish I could have a more rom-com story but I'll take what I can get.

I tried to squat the other day and 150kg x 6 felt like an RPE 9.... (remember I was doing this for like 12 reps in 2019)...

Hopefully it's just neurological / adaptive issues though because today 150 felt relatively easy and I worked up to 165x2 after lots of 3's and 5s and slightly lower weights.

The other day squatted lots of 4's and 5's, ending with 160kg x 4 RPE was maybe 7. Also pressed 75kg for 5x5, it's fine. Mostly training so that I don't have to adjust wardrobes.

Joined a new gym last night. Hilarious(ly deconditioned)

My East Coast adventure came to an end a bit earlier than expected, and I've relocated to Tech Bro Valley. Didn't realize how strict COVID shutdowns were but I guess that's California for you, right? "Blue state held together by red tape" etc. Anyway I found a brotastic powerlifting gym nearby, which will have to do for now. The gear is mostly for raw PL, but there's nonetheless one Olympic lifting platform, one Rogue bar, and maybe two sets of Rogue bumpers, along with a big array of squat racks and benches. People here are freaky strong; guy in the rack next to me today was casually squatting about 300kg for 2s and 3s.

So since I am a deconditioned mess, I did (in pounds!):
Squat:
45lb x 10
135x8
225x8
315x8,8,3
I felt a hint of complaining in my right knee on the 3rd set and cut it off. I was already getting that insta-DOMS in my legs that I am a bit known for when coming back from a layoff, so figured I could always just back off and live to fight tomorrow.

Press:
135x8
145x6
155x5x2

Lots of DB bis and tris with 30lbs.

Maybe this will be the start of something good.

As expected I was totally crippled by my efforts, but hey, I had to to keep up with some young bucks. I was feeling better by Tuesday but was called out of town on Wednesday to go deal with a client in Seattle. Got back on Friday night, tired and with a bit of a headache from humoring some of client's team...can't party like I used to I guess, and I wasn't exactly good at this when young either....so.....

Went in this weekend to do:
Squat:
20kg x a lot
135x8
225x8
315x8x3 right knee a smidge sore at the very bottom but nothing debilitating

Press (cleaned from floor)
50kg x8
60x8
70x5x2
75x3,5

RDL:
135x8
225x8
275x8x3, with 8 shrugs after the last rep of each set, for maximum yokedness

Bunch of DB bis and tris stuff with 30lbs

Feeling really sore already...Damn, seems basically like yesterday that I started and now I'm old enough for masters lifting, and worried about recovery when some of these kids at the gym are back to 100% after a 3-item combo at Panda Express.

The site picked a perfect time to take a shit, as I've actually been training. Some recent things:

Snatch:
20kg x a lot
40x4
50x4
60x4
70x4x2
So my garbage baseline has been maintained at least.

Snatch deadlift: up to 130kg for 3 sets of 8.

Squat:
There was a day I worked up to 325lb for 3 sets of 8.

Knees holding up. It actually seems like my knee wraps, when wrapped in certain ways, aggravates the discomfort??? In hindsight this started in 2019 when I got a new pair of those Russian knee wraps to replace the old worn out pair...might this have been a self-inflicted bit of trouble? Well the good news is that if that is the case, then it can't be too serious of a problem, right? Since you can't actually seriously injure yourself with a strip of cloth? Lame.

This gym also has a bunch of dedicated bench setups, with pins to spot the weight, so I took it for a spin the other day. First time benching in a very long time and I got up to 205 for multiple sets of 5-8 and 225 for a set of 3 (could have done more). Then backoff sets at 185 for sets of 8-10 to get the volume in. So that's something.

Ugh site ate my post. Was talking about how I was out with clients all night this whole damn week, so there was no time to train, plus I was feeling sick anyway from staying out with them and soaking in beer and scotch. Went in today and did

Squat:
45lb x a lot
135x8
225x8
315x8
325x8
335x8

Couldn't bounce out of the bottom because these were iron plates in a power rack, and at ATG I risked hitting the pins, while one hole lower and they would have been useless, so I just did textbook down and up squats. Quads feel good.

Backoff pause squats:
225 for a few sets of 6-8

Not great not terrible. Like 3.6 roentgens.
