I have a lot of respect for climbers. Probably because it's something I would just never be good at. Even when I'm lean I still weigh a lot. My baseball weight back in the day was 218 and you could see my abs lol. Also I'm afraid of heights once I get to about 30 feet lol. I see shit like Alex Honnold free-soloing El Cap and kinda just shit my pants. That really has to be the most underappreciated athletic achievements of all time no?

Interesting twist on your log, hope you keep lifting!

Yeah the idea of free soloing that - 4 hours! Blows my mind. Some of the displays of strength I see on the bouldering wall are every bit as impressive to me as watching a guy pull a 645 deadlift. I'm looking forward to the change.

Bouldering
Actually did some warmup hangs today, then a couple V0-V1s to warm, then some V1-V3s. Sent 2 that I had never done before, one of which had really been my nemesis for a while. Good shit.

Gym BW: 194.4

Front Squats
135x4x6

OHP
115x4
95x4x5

Heavy Bag
5ish mins

Had some time to kill and it seemed a fun way to get a little bit of cardio or whatever.

Pullups
194.4x3

Posted a Front Squat video in the form forum for feedback. My left elbow and forearm and such actually feel pretty good, starting easy and finishing w/the hammers probably did me good yesterday. Still a little middle finger tenderness, but as long as it keeps going down I'm going to keep doing what I'm doing.

Right hand was kind of crampy the last 2 days, sore when making a fist. It showed, I was rough out there.

Bouldering
Dead hang 3x10sec
Probably like 5-6 V0-V1
Probably 7-8 V1-V3 attempts, half successful.
Some other work on some parts of some routes.

Dude finished on bench and unloaded the bar to 1 plate on each side, then left.

SGDL straps

CGBP
135x5x5

Superset these on 4 min rest between SGDL sets. Possibly too easy, but that's fine. Finished with some abs/pullups/hammers, was in and out in probably 30 minutes.

Got a site that'll let me track numbers of attempts, redpoints, flashes and onsights per level per workout. Simple enough. My understanding

Onsight - Successful first attempt w/no meta (information/hints on how to complete it)
Flash - Successful first attempt w/meta
Redpoint - Successful attempt aka send. I think this can also be used for re-climbing the same route again so that's how I will use it
Attempt - Tried+failed

Onsight
V0-V1x1
V1-V3x2

Redpoint
V0-V1x1
V1-V3x2

Attempt
V1-V3x4

Plus some other odd and end stuff.

Left elbow is super mad, grip was kinda junk. May need to drop frequency or just really try to rest more while I'm there. 10 attempts plus not much extra across like 45 minutes though... I doubt I need more rest than that.

Got an email on Friday about REI having a garage sale, went Saturday and found a $65 harness on clearance for $31. Nice.

2018-02-11

Flash
5.9x2

Redpoint
5.8x1
5.9x1
5.10ax1
V2-V4x2

Attempt
5.8x1
5.9x2
5.10ax1
V2-V4x2

People I knew were there and tied me in/belayed me for some, then I auto-belayed a bunch. The belaying was cool, I'll try to go get my cert in that soon. The different kinds of problems and high number of grades that are actually within my range in the top roping area was cool too. Writing it down now I feel like I may have missed entering a couple things cause it felt like more than 9 trips up but maybe not.

After that, we went over to the bouldering area. I went to an old V2-V4 where I could never get around the corner right before the end. Hopped up to that spot, got the part I had always failed first try, and then sent the project first full try. Then went to another V2-V4 that I'd never tried before that was pretty tricky, got about halfway my first time, and then sent it my second. First 2 V2-V4s ever at this gym. It's crazy, sometimes you just start one that you have no hope of getting and then you get it.

I was expecting a bit less of an issue with grip on the top roping walls for no good reason really, and that seemed to be the case. Nothing got too mad during the climbing and it never got to the point where I just couldn't hold onto the wall any more. Middle finger tendon between the last 2 joints is a bit stiff this morning though, perhaps an NSAID protocol. Finished climbing and got my barbell stuff in.

Squat
245x2x6

Bench Press
150x2x6

Hammer Curlz
15x15
25x5 eccentric only

So raw. Then went and shot 657 at a doubles tournament, we'll cash with a 1329 but not great. Gonna give it one more shot together next week, then swap partners for the last one. With the 1302 from last week, I'm hoping to cash 3 times.

Too much drinking the last couple days, was tired and demotivated.

Onsight
5.6x1
5.8x1

Redpoint
5.9x1 This was one I did decently last time, this time felt much better
V2-V4x1

Attempt
5.9x5 Yeah I suck. This was like 4 different routes including one I got last time.
V1-V3x1 I think this was probably a V1-V3, it wasn't marked yet as they were just putting up some new routes.

Press
100x6
100x4x5

Forgot what rep scheme I was supposed to be using. Thought it was odd when my last rep actually had an RPE rating, went back and looked. Oops. Superset on 3 min rest with

Front Squat
145x4x6

I need to do back stuff but it was a long day and I was done. Left middle finger still acting up a bit.

Busy schedule, no climbing til prob Sunday. Gym BW 201 ugh. Worked up to some easy singles.

CGBP: 175x1@0-6
SGDL: 275@6-7
Conv DL: 275@6-7

Apparently did not warm up DL sufficiently though, on my second SGDL volume rep at 225, when I set it down my low back said hello, and continued to talk to me as I performed about .5" of the 3rd rep, which I then placed back on the ground.

CGBP
145x5x5

WG Low Cable Rows
95x8x2
110x8x2

~Ab things~ Roman chair leg raises
12x4

Where you hold your self in the chair back thing and lift your legs out to parallel. Roman chair situps? Ok googled, Roman chair leg raises. Straight legs.

Back felt ok bracing for the rows, I think it's just a minor tweak that should heal up on its own in a couple days. We'll see how it feels come Sunday.

Ugh it's not feeling great. Last time I did stuff to my back it happened on a squat warmup at 275, unbelted. I remember @Shane saying about always just belting up over 100kg back in Egypt. It seems that would be a wise practice for me to follow as well.

That's when i always put my belt on. 225lbs+
I used to do a double unbelted at 225 lbs in warmups, but the new scheme has me jumping from 185 to 275lbs.
Same thing though, belt up after my 185X3

Hope it feels better soon.

It was a little rough Saturday morning/afternoon, got a little better Saturday night, and actually felt pretty good on Sunday. At this point it's just lingering annoying soreness, so yay. I'll be cautious with SGDL weds but I would not be surprised if I end up doing last week's planned 225x5x5, will play it by feels.

Press
105x4x6
+
Front Squat
155x4x6

4ish min rest per round of superset. These front squats are getting toughish. Last set maybe @7? Bar is slowing. Sets 2 and 3:

I don't know how to get my elbows any higher, I think my forearms are just way long for the rack. I'm pretty close to choking myself out as it is, and that's with hands spread pretty wide and only a couple fingertips on the bar. Maybe FS is not the variant for me. Could play with high bar too.

Wide Grip Cable Row
110x8x3
95x8
80x8
+
Wide Neutral Grip Pulldown
125x8x3
110x8
95x8

One set of each, 30 seconds rest, back at it. Biceps was ded.

Climbed tonight, didn't track it. All top-rope/auto-belay because I didn't want to jump/fall while bouldering. Forearms got a little crampy but solid session overall. I think I'll be good to deadlift tomorrow.

SGDL
225x5x5

Did 135 fine, belted up for 225 and my back never said a word. Probably would have been ok without but whatever. Used straps from 2nd set on, even my right hand is a bit pissed from climbing yesterday. I kind of want a little heavier work, might warm up conventional to a single top set of 3 or something, then SGDL backoffs?

+
CGBP
155x5x5

Last set was probably @7.5-8, drop to 5lb jump next week.

Roman Chair Leg Raises
12x4
+
Neutral Grip Chins
200x4x4

On the last couple sets I switched from legs to parallel to legs as high as they'd go. That made quite a difference.

Fighting an internal fight not to just finish a quick LP and then get back on my HLM routine, I miss dealing with big (for me) weights and I haven't been near a PR in a long time. My limiting factor for climbing still really seems to be finger strength, so why not? I'm honestly a bit nervous about an overuse injury with my finger tendons - I type for a living and as a 1099'er it wouldn't be good to not be billable.

Diff is difficulty, basically a lookup of expected RPE based on percentage and reps. Fat is Fatigue as calculated by that formula I came up with upstairs in a couple threads.

I'd also have little accessory blocks for each day. I enjoy the row/pulldown split, as well as abs/pullups/chins that I've been doing. Probably face pulls and curls for the third. Pullovers would be cool to get in there somewhere too, maybe in place of pullups/chins.

Climbed a little yesterday and took the belaying lesson. Need to test next time I'm there and then I'll get that tag forever, it'll be nice to be able to belay the ppl that have been belaying me. Did a couple boulder problems I'd done before, they were easier. Nice.

All ez, bench was probably too ez. Will probably switch to the above program Monday. Felt good to have some relatively heavier weight on my back.

Got my belay cert, did some top roping and bouldering. The boulder in the vid is a v2-v4 that vexed me for so long, I could never get around the corner. Ezpz now.

Might take a week of only v0-v1 and 5.8 or below to let my fingers deload.
