Re: Tip Toeing in my Vibrams
On average, about three to four hours over the course of the day, depending on the scheduled main lifts. Once the main lifts are done, I can come and go as I please where accessory lifts are concerned. Sometimes I'll wash dishes or do other chores in between sets (I broke down old furniture that we're getting rid of between deadlift sets yesterday).
I rarely watch TV and only leave the house for groceries or if the kid has any engagements planned for the day (martial arts or appointments), so I tend to treat the lifts like any other homebody "chore." Got most of my bench press stuff done this morning before the kid woke up, and will go run errands and do some homework for a class I'm taking before I carry on with rows and supplemental back work at some point this afternoon.
Yesterday's session probably totalled around four hours or so, because I didn't much feel like supersetting anything, and there was no cooking or cleaning to be done, so I took my time.
Before the home gym setup, I used to try to keep sessions in the gym at around two hours, barring the times I'd drive to a second gym to get at the abductor and adductor machines.
I really enjoy having my own shit. Only thing I'm missing is a couple of cows and crops.

This is a very interesting approach, and I've often wondered how in the hell you are getting that much work done.Renascent wrote: ↑Sun Jan 29, 2023 10:44 amOn average, about three to four hours over the course of the day, depending on the scheduled main lifts. I'm always a little anxious about non-lifting people asking me how much time I spend working out, as I think they are judging me selfish. But on days I don't lift, I just fill that time with dumb stuff like tv and video games.

Oh damn, I didn’t even think that my question could be considered judgmental.
I was just wondering wondering about the time density and acute fatigue from all the exercises.

Not trying to clog up Renascent's log with social civilities, but I totally didn't mean that comment about you. Like, at all.

Re: Tip Toeing in my Vibrams
I used to do this when living on LI. DL and whatever else I could fit in at my main gym that had the necessary stuff but limited hours, and then drive to the LA Fitness to fill in the rest. I lowkey knew it was sick, but there are much shittier hobbies.
I had the same question re: your session times but never asked because I sorta thought that I was misunderstanding something. Nope lol.

Same here. It doesn't help that I always get the impression that many nonlifters with whom I'm in regular contact seem to consider "working out" to be merely a pursuit of vanity, and nothing more.broseph wrote: ↑Sun Jan 29, 2023 10:51 amThis is a very interesting approach, and I've often wondered how in the hell you are getting that much work done.

Generally, I try to avoid discussing lifting with anyone I know -- besides my wife -- as much as possible. Sometimes people take it as some sort of indictment if I remotely imply that I'd rather spend my free time as I already do, instead of more popular forms of consumption.
I've very few familial obligations outside of my household, no friends aside from the one I fuck, cohabitate with, and share parental/financial responsibilities, and I do most of my gaming on a PS3, so my schedule is open in ways that a lot of acquaintances and coworkers do not understand.
Nah, it's fine. It's a perfectly fine question in the context of programming, fatigue, and so forth. Timewise, my approach is far from optimal for strength training, but then again I think I enjoy lifting for the sake of lifting, sometimes. Like broseph said, it becomes a tricky question to answer when nonlifters ask what the hell I do with my time away from work if I dislike eating out, aren't excited about Joe Burrow, and don't recognize or know of any celebrities that come up in polite conversation.
And if those people see no value in physical pursuits or aloneness, then you might get regarded as possibly the world's worst spouse or parent. In my experience, that sort of judgment usually comes from people who figure anything beyond step-counting or a yoga class every few months is more vain and self-serving than other forms of pleasure (not that there's anything wrong with counting steps or yoga, in my opinion).
Pretty much how I look at it, as a whole. I'd be more worried if I didn't enjoy it (and if my kid was much younger).
Then again, as BenM once suggested, maybe lifting is a means to fix something that I -- or we -- hate about myself/ourselves.

Re: Tip Toeing in my Vibrams
You ever watch the Dom Mazzetti videos? Lifting being the result of and also further fueling hating one’s self is one of the running jokes. One of those “funny because it’s (sort of, occasionally) true” kind of jokes.Renascent wrote: ↑Sun Jan 29, 2023 2:08 pmPretty much how I look at it, as a whole. I'm a little partial to Sodom (their first EP is, for now, one of my main go-tos for warmup sets), but Kreator is growing on me very quickly.plaguewielder wrote: ↑Wed Feb 01, 2023 11:38 amNice. Best of that German trio of Sodom and Destruction

For real. My judgment gets a little muddy when I'm all carbed up.
