Rogue Deep Dish Plates (Made in Michigan)

Can't wait to replace my mishmash Covid-19 plates with these in the fall. I have about 7 different brands and colors right now.

Henniger just announced that they'll be done in about 6 weeks or so. Black. Plus made in the USA is a nice touch.

Yeah, it sounds like they'll be e-coating them. Is anybody else even doing something similar (in regards to the finish)?

Definitely don’t think any of the major manufacturers are - and any are definitely not doing it in the US

Looks amazing! But I’m guessing there won’t be a KG version. :(

I wonder if they will have a "pick-up-in-person-discount" Root can grab plates for all of us!

These old school deep dish plates look cool but they're not very practical for heavy deadlifting. In the comments he says they're going to be 2" thick... so max load on the OPB with 16.25" sleeves would be around 695, 700 with the collars hanging halfway off the end of the bar. Ohio Deadlift Bar has even shorter sleeves at 15.5" and the Texas Deadlift Bar is only 14.75". Even if you're pulling between 6 and 7 plates, if the 25's and 10's are similarly thiccc then it might be a PITA to load some weights in between depending on the bar and plate combination. Maybe once these hit the market they'll start selling the elephant bar to the public as well, lol.

I was curious about the plate width. This does pose a bit of an issue. I recently bought a few pairs of bumper plates, thinking I'd use those exclusively until I fill the sleeves. At 2.36" wide, I'll be able to fit only 6 plates (or 6.5 with collars only part-way on). At that point, I've decided, I will have earned myself the purchase of slimmer plates. :D

It's hard to make a similar argument with these. You don't get the benefit of bumper plates in the interim, just the old school cool.

I thought the main benefit was that non-lifting people think you're stronger than you really are when you post a video on instagram???

I think they are, as he mentioned in the comments about it not being difficult to put "KG" on the mold prior to production...we'll see!

I don't have to worry about that kind of weight yet, but I'm looking forward to selling my various bumpers and getting out of the rainbow life (not that there's anything wrong with that...).

On pricing, seems like these would come in between the regular Rogue Machined Plates and the powerlifting calibrated plates. The price per pound is already pretty close--$160 for a pair of machined 45's vs $185 for a pair of calibrated 45lbs/$182 for a pair of calibrated 20kgs/$225 for 55lb or 25kg. So seems like the USA made 45's would be ~$170/pair, unless they want to price them right up against (or above) the calibrated plates.

Edited to add: I just looked at the price premium for the USA-made Kettlebells vs standard kettlebells. Its like a $1-2 premium per kettlebell. Basically the same price. Seems like USA made plates would have a similar (minimal) premium.

Might save enough on tariffs, shipping, and foreign exchange headaches that USA-made is competitive.

My read of that conversation was that it was about whether or not to label the kg equivalent weight, like many plates that have both numbers on them (but only one is a whole number). I don't really see why anyone would bother with that, it seems superfluous.

Would be nice to have a non calibrated kilo option, but I won't hold my breath. And at that thickness, it wouldn't be that useful even as a supplement to bumpers which are easier to get in kg.

That's probably the correct read, honestly. Though Rogue does supply most of their plates in both KG and LB, so maybe it's not such a long shot since they're manufacturing here in the US.

Don't you threaten me with a good time lol.

There was a guy making a clone he called the Mastodon Bar or something... not sure if he's still out there... I WANT ONE THOUGH...

Edit: it was a guy/company called Building Strongman (now they go by Arsenal Athletics) and it's called the Mammoth Bar for the low price of $1200

Only calibrated and bumpers afaik (but not echoes). None of their basic iron.

It's cheaper to ship in a steel beam from china than to get one from a local manufacturer. Ask me how I know. Chinese steel is massively subsidized and china pays next to nothing for shipping due to some international shipping treaty.

right now, yeah, its this way. x1000.

And keep in mind what mettkeks is talking about is carbon steel (structural, etc.)....somewhat refined, but big bulky pieces, etc.
Plates are cast, mostly out of recycled garbage iron I'm guessing.
And a billion plates stack up nicely on pallets, and fit inside a shipping container. Very east to ship big volumes.

Maybe Rogue is reading the writing on the wall.
"Buy USA!".
Or see having more future problems getting stuff from China .... more future trade wars? sure
But don't forget COVID19- phase 2?
