'Like/ Dislike etc' peoples' posts?
Something akin to Facebook and other forums, does this platform have the scope to add like or passively aggressive dislike peoples' posts?
No added value really, though folk love the social media drama.

oh hell, this idea would make this place 100x times worse but about 50 times more hilarious.

I would dislike this post if I could.GlasgowJock wrote: ↑Thu Jan 30, 2020 1:33 pm Something akin to Facebook and other forums, does this platform have the scope to add like or passively aggressive dislike peoples' posts?

So you could anonymously influence the conversation? No. We talk to each other and voice our opinions for everyone to see. If you don't want to speak up, stay quiet.

Why are you assuming it would be anonymous? Likes/reactions on FB aren’t.
I’ve often wished for this just because I see somebody post something funny or something I agree with... and expressing that with a “like” would make more sense than cluttering up the thread with “lol” or “+1” posts.

I'm not on facebook. Every other comment/messageboard with a voting system is a mess.TimK wrote: ↑Thu Jan 30, 2020 5:00 pmWhy are you assuming it would be anonymous? Likes/reactions on FB aren’t.

discord has a fairly unintrusive "like" system where a post can be liked with an emoji of some sort, and that emoji is then tagged onto the bottom of the post. a post without any likes is left unmarked. there's otherwise no "total likes" count highlighted on every post, no "lifetime likes score" on profiles or anything like that. IMO the discord model is the best variant of a like system that i've seen.
i'd still prefer no likes on a forum. as mettkeks said, a forum is for talking to each other. forums that have a prominent like system tend to develop a lot of annoying pathologies because of it.

I like the discord setup also. The user also has to put some (albeit very little) effort into seeing who the “likes”/redundant emoji taps came from.kingsamj wrote: ↑Fri Jan 31, 2020 10:26 pm discord has a fairly unintrusive "like" system where a post can be liked with an emoji of some sort, and that emoji is then tagged onto the bottom of the post. a post without any likes is left unmarked. there's otherwise no "total likes" count highlighted on every post, no "lifetime likes score" on profiles or anything like that. In general I like the discord setup for structured chat.

I’m on another forum that has likes. It’s a nice way of acknowledging a helpful or funny post without having to quote them and comment. You can see who has liked a post. I don’t think there are dislikes.TimK wrote: ↑Thu Jan 30, 2020 5:00 pmWhy are you assuming it would be anonymous? Likes/reactions on FB aren’t.

I’ve seen many hilarious responses here, and I want to tip my fedora to the poster but also not clutter up the discussion... “broseph likes this”

There are occasional times when I do miss some sort of like feature. Mostly in the pr thread of awesomeness, and sometimes just to acknowledge some comedy gold comment.
But I’ve survived this long without it. Wouldn’t worry me if the change happened or didn’t.
