^ natural pipes are pretty cool. They're cheap & after a decade of patina you'll feel some weird, spiritual attachment to the thing.

Dude. Earlier this year I bought a Nording signature black freehand, which is has no finish coat. And he makes them all different and asymmetrical... I have a certain way I hold this pipe because of the odd shape and it’s already getting some patina and the spiritual attachment is real.Hanley wrote: ↑Sat Jun 16, 2018 3:14 pmShe's crying out to you:

And those Savinelli 320’s seem universally adored... probably ought to get one eventually.

Re: Pipe and Tobacco Thread
I have an unopened tin from 2007. Should probably get around to smoking that. Also haven't smoked a pipe in a good while.Hanley wrote: ↑Tue Jun 12, 2018 9:32 amI bought two pounds of the Vintage Syrian a couple of years ago...if it dries out, just dampen a little folded piece of paper towel and stick that in the can. Should be fine for a very, very long time.heyitsme wrote: ↑Tue Jun 12, 2018 5:54 am Apparently managed to get my hands on a tin of Mac Baren HH Vintage Syrian just as they are now, it seems, running out of Syrian Latakia and introducing the HH Vintage Latakia (with Cyprian Latakia) to replace it... Anyone know how long it'll keep in the unopened tin or when is a good time to open it? I'm still not the most discerning smoker yet
The occasional cigar, but was last fall the last time I had a smoke in a pipe. And now I live in Salt Lake, and don't have a boyfriend with a back yard I can sit and smoke in.

Re: Pipe and Tobacco Thread
Whoa. When did that happen?
Well, get on it.
Every savinelli I've owned has smoked really, really well. And I actually like their balsa filter system. Cools things down without messing with flavor.

Regarding the Savinelli- I have just one and love it.
I like to think of those balsa “filters” as more of a moisture/temperature control system than an actual filter.

Re: Pipe and Tobacco Thread
Couple weeks ago, though the process started back in March.
Eh. My outlook on dating is not the best.
Based on the design, I think I agree with @broseph, seems like a good way to cool things down and absorb some water without taking much else out of the smoke.
I've refurbed a couple estate Savinelli's that I sold or gave away, but don't currently own one.
When I've got some cash to spare probably will give in to the PAD.

Next up was Carter Hall in a virgin cob.
I couldn’t pick out individual components or identify subtle nuances. It was just a really good and pleasant smoke. I think maybe there’s a flavor added? But it wasn’t super obvious or overwhelming.

Re: Pipe and Tobacco Thread
Tried Cornell & Diehl Haunted Bookshop. Billed as primarily burley with a little Virginia and Perique.
Didn’t like it. Musty and cigar-like, to me it was strong but boring. Just made me wish I was smoking Carter Hall.

Some of the first tobacco I got was Russ Oullettes Pirate's Cove. Virginia, burley and cavendish flavoured with honey, rum and vanilla, I think. It is still some of the best smelling anything I have had the pleasure to stick my nose in and the flavors also come through pretty well on the smoke.

Years ago, I helped provide some ideas and suggestions to Russ for making some new aromatic blends. The idea was if I came up with some ideas that he liked and he was able to pull it off, he would send me a lb. He narrowed in on a concept I had for "mint chocolate" and had started working on it. After conversing back and forth for a couple of years, he either gave up or forgot about the original plan. Nice guy, and good blender.

Sounds like it would have been a good deal. A shame it didn't pan out! I'm curious about the Hearth & Home thing he's doing right now.BassPlayer wrote: ↑Mon Jun 25, 2018 10:48 amYears ago, I helped provide some ideas and suggestions to Russ for making some new aromatic blends. Re: Pipe and Tobacco Thread
Smoked my first pipe in a VERY long time a couple nights ago. Just wadded up some loose tobacco from my "ends" jar into my old Doc Grabow... and proceeded to have a delightful smoke. No relights, paced it just right, and the evening was pretty comfortable (for South Texas, anyways...).
