I wonder how much he trained for this. Seems like he just showed up to get his spot at world’s.

Chat comments on the livestream had me laughing , called Ray the latest casualty of USADA.

I know why they are raising the totals, but it's kinda disheartening that my 702.5 total from last year that qualified me for 2018 nationals (120kg men's open) isn't even close to the 2020 minimum. I set that weighing about 110kg. I could compete at 105kg now. 745 is a monster total at 105 (445 Wilks). Technically you could compete at 93kg, total 745kg and qualify for nationals at 105kg, but not 93kg (105kg class QT is 745 vs. 750 for 93kg).

I feel ya. One of big goals was to go compete but that now seems impossible. I'm between 93kg and 105kg and am nowhere close to 750kg or even 650kg. Getting kind of crazy really. 1650lbs @ 205lb is approaching Marty Gallagher territory.

The qualify standards are tough. I'm glad they didn't increase the total for M1 93s. They only had 4 lifters this year excluding LS Mcclain, and one of those lifters made it via regional competition.

It seems like they should target 15 entries in each of the open categories. Have a window when those slots open up. Everyone applies with their best total. The highest are selected. You would have fewer slots for the masters categories because no one care about us old farts.

WTF is Taylor Atwood?!?!
He totaled 1848lbs with a 667 squat, 430 BP, and 751 DL @163lbs BW :o
He was one rushed BP pause away from winning the weight class above him at nats (ultimately he was 10lbs away from beating Russ).
In his weight class he out totals everyone regardless of drug testing (or lack thereof) and use of wraps.
WTFFFFFFF!!!!!

Saw some of the highlights on YT. Really incredible. I guess he doesnt really cut weight since they have a 2 hour weigh in (I think?), but do you think he would ever go up to the 83kg class? Would be cool to see him go head to head with Russ.

On another note, looks like Sean Noriega completely messed up his game plan. Missed his second squat, missed his 3rd bench and then completely scratched his deadlifts. Was expecting him to be neck and neck with Russ.

I doubt he'll go up to the 83's he's seemed pretty happy destroying the 74's for years and now has a 600wilks. If he want's a competitive challenge I think he should try to win the 83's while weighing 74 (at worlds and/or nats), he's absurdly close. I also wonder if Atwood has the potential for a long, David Ricks type, career. Atwood is 32 years old and is freakishly consistent year after year.

Yeah I didn't actually expect Noriega to beat Orhii, but I was hoping for it to be close, I think he tore his hamstring or something. What makes Atwood's proximity to Orhii all the more insane is that Orhii had a PR meet w/ a record 712lb squat. I don't think Noriega could have beat that, but he was the only 83 w/ a good chance.

And to top off the clusterfuck for this year's event, platform1 stream for the men 93 and up is down due to copyright infringement.

That's fine.
It's not like anyone wants to see the likes of Cornelius or Ricks lift, right? smh.

Well, you can watch platform 2 and hear about the lifts on platform 1.

Yeah, no one want's to see Bryce Lewis and Ashton Ruska either... On top of non-existent commentary, if you watch one platform you have endless spoilers on the other. I mean since the meet is covid-small, WHY NOT GO OUT OF YOUR WAY MAKING THE LIVESTREAM AWESOME???

I take the Bryce/Ashton comment back. I’m watching them right now in the replay! But I still agree with you in principle @Wilhelm.

I watched both platforms live. I had one platform live on one tab of my browser and the other platform on another tab. I muted the second tab. Both the 93s and the 105s made for great competition. That said, I found the battle between Bryce and Ashton more interesting.

Where did you find the platform with Ricks, etc...?
It's still unavailable on USAPL youtube with that copyright strike.

I'm currently watching the one that is up with no sound in case i can fine the other one eventually.

Ah, maybe the "live" part is the clue here.
Might have still been up then.

Found this ViewSync link too late to use it for other sessions

Yes. Maybe live was the key. I don't know.

So what is up with Team Flexx. Is Joey Flexx a great coach? Or has he just been able to attract great athletes?
