Heaviest lift of all time. Not official but 1 kg heavier than Taranenko's 1987 CJ of 266kg.

yep ... probably greatest super ever.

really hoping everything goes OK in the Olympics for him.

my thinking is, he should focus on the CJ a bit more than the snatch ...

he already has the snatch record(220), and the total.

Just do 267 or 268.

I kind of had the opinion that he was like most great snatchers...Not that great at CJ. He kind of proved me wrong here.

I think he will win Olympic gold with fairly conservative numbers. And then he'll go for the all-time world records.

Or Georgia will fall out of favor with the IOC, and yadda yadda yadda we'll see him dye his hair blonde and post 3 hours of IG story training videos a day.

Since he burst on the scene he's had a fine Clean & Jerk...we just haven't really needed to see it too often, unfortunately (shrugs)...slightly dodgy elbows but he'd probably get it.

I guess he's probably safe from getting popped until Tokyo at least?

yeah, this^ ... and his recent lift meets are ok and all, but to me clearly he's right at his absolute maximum.
Its very subtle, but his elbows are locking out last(late) and pushing him down a little late into his stance (lockout).
His grip is so narrow, and arms so long ... it takes quite a high throw to get the bar high enough.

On reddit and other places, everyone thinks he's going to break the record so easily, talk of 225/270-275 and shit.
I'm like, he will be lucky to do 268 if everything goes absolutely perfect (in Tokyo, or next meet after that).

I liked Lasha's 264 at Worlds; it was a whole magnitude of a "cleaner" lift than Taranenko's 266.
...at that point, I was like, "yep, he's the better lifter for sure".

But we see here what happens here (267 training lift) when just a few more kg are added ....
...also, every lift doesn't come out the same with maximal weights.
No one has 100% consistency with 100% maximums.

Don't know why everyone is so over-optimistic.

EDIT:
Also, he snatched 220 two years ago already.
Still at 220 in 2019, (albeit a better looking lift)..... I don't know how people are extrapolating 225 out of the current data.

He makes maximal weights look easy enough that they think much bigger weights are possible. The difference between an elite like Lasha and some American kid on Reddit is that Lasha isn't throwing stupid numbers on the bar just to say he did it and then fucking up his training for a few weeks or months. See mash elite performance for examples of the latter.

I think the lack of progress in the Snatch is probably partly down to the re-jigging of the records...plus he has no one helping him on the stage in terms of either pushing him to a bigger lift or even really taking many lifts in between his attempts..
