The owner might let you keep yours there too. That's not uncommon. Even my local gym that's globoish in style if not a franchise let the angry powerlifter keeps a full set of comp plates locked up in the main area, and his OPB behind the desk.damufunman wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2019 11:46 am I was considering bringing my bar to the gym since I really dislike the DHS I'm using (knurling is so light that my thumb is taking ALL the load since the knurl doesn't stick to the rest of my hand at all when hooked and getting more torn up than it used to). But then remembered that the gym owner mentioned he keeps the Oly bar in the closet/changing room cuz he found someone doing rack pulls with it once...

I keep my bar with a ProLoc Blocker at my gym. Occasionally some of the bros and mouth breathers get insulted, but there is only one decent Ivanko bar that is pretty beat up from years of abuse. The rest if junk they bought on Amazon.

Eh, it's not bad enough for me to want to go through the trouble. Plus, then I won't have a WL bar at home for the occasion I do get to make some noise on weekends/holidays. And I'm not getting another bar...

Re: Oh the places you'll bro! (Tales of Gym Glory)
There's this one goofy old man at our gym.
He's about 55-65.
He has given me unsolicited advice on the jump-shrug-cue before on my cleans a couple of years ago.
Said he "was a high school for years" and "knew what he was talking about"....
....something-something "iron game for a long time".
Anyway, he gets weirder as time goes by.
He fairly tall 6'4" or taller, but super skinny (legs).
Wear's black tights (no shorts).... goofy boney mis-shapen legs with no ass.
He typically walks around re-racking abandoned weights, DBs, bars, foam rollers, etc.
Some kind of good-Samaritan complex, but strangely over does it.
Several times has "put away" people's shit they were still using
...I use (2) 5# plates to hold up my phone for video recording... he has "put those away" a couple of times.
I leave my small mesh gym bag by them, with my phone, and my chalk right there.
Anyways, he was at it again today. Between his sets, he wanders around putting stuff away.
The gym is on pins and needles already with all the covid stuff ...the staff wears the high-fashion black masks
and just walk around the whole time spraying and wiping down random equipment with disinfectant.
"Stickers" everywhere. Half the machines are taped off to allow The Distancing.
...and this asshole just keeps moving around all over the place, going from point A to point B to C, D ... Z
...touching a bunch of shit that really doesn't need to be touched.
The other result of this is the station he was using gets co-opted by someone else...because he is hopping around playing white knight.
So then there's a up close discussion about "can I finish my sets", etc .... whereas the new person has touched the bar/implement.
Wiping procedures/protocols have to take place per the decorum because two people are now touching the same bar and so on.....
I was hoping he'd come over a try to put my loose change plates away, as I just leave a 5 and 2.5 on the floor at either end of the platform for future use......I was gonna let him have it.
Was gonna keep it simple, "You sure moving around a lot, and touching a bunch of stuff that doesn't need to be touched with all that's going on and all".
I really don't "believe" in the masks that much myself.
But I respect what certain businesses ask of their customers.
Its amazing enough the fucking gym is open ..... this asshole is just making a bunch of people nervous.

Re: Oh the places you'll bro! (Tales of Gym Glory)
I work as a manager at a SNAP Fitness franchise in New Mexico, and I've seen some stuff, let me tell you. The best is this man who I'll call QuarterRep McGee. He's a 50-something dude with massive quads, and pretty lean. Whatever exercise he does, and I mean ANY EXERCISE, he'll have this look of complete agony on his face, and maybe go from an 8th to a 4th of ROM for sets of what seem like 20 reps or so. It's quite amusing. His quads are huge from (what I'm guessing) bike riding. It's freaking awesome to watch him work out

I hope that guy's ok. That's the type of drop that could cause internal bleeding and kill you hours later.

Re: Oh the places you'll bro! (Tales of Gym Glory)
yeah, i find it odd the certain boutique gyms who have only power-racks/cages to bench-press with
(not stand alone bench stations like pictured above) and still refuse to bench IN the rack under safeties.
I mean sure their not trying 315 typically,
but I'd hate to see what happens when 95# pops out of an 60 year old lady's hands and lands on her sternum.
The spotter is a total joke in this scenario (there to clean up the mess) ...95# falls as fast as 315#.
I mean, who is more stupid:
the gym-bros, whose bench station aren't even safety-equipped?
or,
the professional-top-best-in-the-world-coach's facility, with six squat-cages, and yet everyone is benching outside the racks with no safeties?

Looks like he's using a napkin and a towel as straps.

I can not believe he did a second rep!
My guess is that he didn’t drink his v8 that day.
Yes, I’m aware it’s not 1987.
Also, I believe that is rarely seen continental deadlift.

Hard pass on any gym which lacks safe places to bench. Fussing over chalk is much lower priority.
