The model looks legit AF with those sinewy forearms and edgy haircut. I hope you can see why I bought (and later returned) this contraption.cgeorg wrote: ↑Tue Aug 13, 2019 4:53 pmThis one?SeanHerbison wrote: ↑Tue Aug 13, 2019 3:20 pmNot going to post the other one from the Amazon page? Re: Grippers are, kind of, a Strength Sport
So I thought my grip was decent.
I have closed the #2 Captains of Crush gripper. I I deadlifted 560 conventional without straps.
Using the 2.5 inch diameter Titan version of the Rolling Thunder, I guess the Titan Thunder, I found out I was wrong.
A single set of 3 with 100lb was a challenge!
(For context, 200lb is what you need for the Crushed to Dust certification that Iron Mind holds.)
However, a week or two later, I just did 100lb for 5 sets of 3, and it was absolutely manageable.
I guess newbie gains.
The Titan Thunder makes for fun training. Would strongly recommend to anyone. Also, probably won't hurt your deadlift.

Those sorts of handles can be *extremely* variable based on Spin, Humidity etc, both to others and even themselves.

Be careful, a rusty version of this is going to be released by Rip soon. It will be known as the greatest grip and forearm trainer ever created in the history of all things known to man.

What's everyone's GD-90 strength look like? I got 2 sets of 3 reps on each hand at 112, definitely had at least 1 more in me on the right hand. 141 was about 5mm from closing.

Re: Grippers are, kind of, a Strength Sport
I got one a couple weeks ago! Really excited with it. For several months now I've been running a bunch and not really lifting (my old, cheap gym closed in May, for now I go very sporadically to my university's gym when a friend is working the desk and can wave me through). This combo is optimal for maximum doms, negative gains, and feeling sad. ...so obviously I went a little overboard when I got the gripper and have been shredding my hands
Been a lot of fun though. I like the design a lot, and prefer the feel compared to torsion spring designs (that said I've never tried a CoC, just cheap off-brand crap).
On a good day I can get 170 within a few mm of closing with my right hand, and 5mm with my left. Just now got a clean, two-click double with my right on 141, but just the one close with my left. I'll try some AMRAPs tomorrow or the day after at other settings.
Do you have the extenders to make the handles longer? The one I got came with them, but I've left them off for now as it fits nicely into one of my backpack pockets with them off and I cart it around a bit. I'm not quite clear on what exactly they're supposed to add to the experience.

Damn, closing in on 170, nice! I did get the extenders as well as the pinch grip attachment. I think they would just give you extra leverage, making it easier to close? The pinch attachment is pretty cool, though kind of awkward to keep correctly balanced in hand. I just took the pinch ones off so the gripper would better fit in my laptop bag - I wasn't using it enough at home, so I figured if I had it with me all the time, I'd use it at work occasionally, or to help pre-warmup on my way to climbing.riom wrote: ↑Wed Sep 11, 2019 2:39 am Do you have the extenders to make the handles longer? Re: Grippers are, kind of, a Strength Sport
The one time I'd tried with them before it didn't feel any easier; had a run at 170 again this morning with extenders and taped up fingers.
Still no close!
I think this is because the extenders allow the handles to be much closer together when closed, so fully closing requires a bunch of force when your grip is already narrow. I'm not very good through that ROM, so for me it seems to be a wash with the greater leverage.
With the extenders on, my handles get within 1 or 2mm of each other when closed at 141, touch simultaneously with the black stops at 170, and touch before the black stops at 198.
The only real complaint about the GD grippers I've seen on nerdy grip forums is that the handles don't touch, so they're poor training for that last bit of ROM if you want to try a CoC or similar. The extenders seem to cover this problem nicely.
I might try alternating work with and without them just for variety's sake

Re: Grippers are, kind of, a Strength Sport
I was very confused about the numbers you guys were using. Then I realize that I have the GD-80, not the GD-90. I still find it more difficult than the CoC's. Just checked I got the second to last (153?) just about closed on my right, but not on the left. The last setting, 176 is impossible to close. . . . I don't know what I can do on the CoC now. I've lost a ton of grip strength from 7 months of tendinitis. . . .

Re: Grippers are, kind of, a Strength Sport
Grip stuff is a lot of fun. Have a bunch of grip gadgets. (Not great at any of ‘em)
Currently goofing off with a wrist wrench and the rolling thunder. I like the wrist wrench better than the RT as you only need about half the weight for the same grip workout.
I read the handles on the gd80/gd90 don’t touch when closed all the way. IF your using the gd to train for COC’s I would think you’d want to train that end range of motion.
I have a Vulcan adjustable gripper that I really like. It’s a lot different feel than a torsion spring gripper though.
