Chris wrote: Thu Dec 28, 2017 8:03 pm I've been doing some sporadic lifting here and there over the break, but I ended up having less time than I had counted on. The PI for a couple of research projects I did this summer decided to go full bore on getting drafts completed for publishing so I've been working on those, traveling, and drinking more beer than any time since I worked on a cruise ship in Alaska in 2009. Aggravating my wrist back at the beginning of December didn't help much with motivation, and if I'm honest, lifting is going to wax and wane a bit until after I take Step 1 in June...at which point it will continue to be hit or miss depending on which clerkship I'm rotating in. Ha.

Going off memory here so just hitting some highlights. Bodyweight has been pretty consistently around 202-204 (surprisingly).

Congrats! What are your soon-to-be-published research papers on?

What would it take for your medical school to fund a highly meaningful study? Something like "Effects of creatine and BCAAs on overweight, late 30's males seeking to add 40lbs to bench 1RM."

Not super exciting stuff. Basically QC studies for the Neurology department related to stroke treatments.

Ha! To start, I think you'd need to get the medical university to wade into the pool of ex fizz studies.

I'll bet you can still get that 300lb bench (unless you already have...I need to go catch up on logs) by Chinese New Year.

P for parallel? b? better?

Wish i could comment on what reps at those bench weights mean for your arrival at 315.
I really hope i can relate more by the end of the year.

Clearly nice work though. +++

Chris should probably answer, but b is for belted. P for me is "power" as in "power snatch" or "power clean," but I don't know what a power squat would be...

@Wilhelm Thanks! P = paused, usually 2-3 counts, B = belted as Justin mentioned. Looking back on your log, I think you've made impressive progress all around for only lifting for two years - especially in your mid-50s. You absolutely put me to shame on skwaats.

If all goes according to plan (when does it ever?), I think 315 will fall in ~4-5 weeks.

@damufunman Since 'power' usually means above parallel, maybe power squats are what we see typical gym bros do?

Thank you, @Chris.

Would it be overly rude here to mention it's been about 14 months since i started lifting? :D
Pretty sure i have a built in advantage for at least the beginning of my squat career from my cycling history.

Looking forward to seeing your victory over the 315 bench milestone.
