People (recreational lifters doing olympic lifts) might want to seriously evaluate their own form, speed under the bar, and mobility.
Ask themselves a question: "When I do the lifts, do a look like a Weightlifter?"

I believe Rip's best snatch was 85 kilos.
That wasn't because he was weak, and really not much to do with his lack of explosiveness/Rate of Force Development (RFD).
He probably was slow as shit getting back under the bar and his mobility probably sucked too.....technique in general sucked.
Granted he'll make a bunch of excuses like being 45 (when he was doing it I believe),
or motorcycle accident,
a horse kicked me,
or "muh shoulder!" ....
....maybe he was doing split power snatches or some shit to deal with all those thing.
Point remains.....that's why a steriod using power lifter could only do 85/105.
Fucken sad man.
He has no idea what it feels like to move fast under the bar, or how to coach that.

RFD pulling under in the snatch or clean, or say pushing your self under in the split of the jerk REALLY shouldn't require elite levels of CNS/RFD/explosiveness .... as you are doing those things against VERY SMALL LOADS.
The barbell in those three instances is weightless (floating), and the only force you are really exerting on is your own body ..... 200 pounds?
You should still be able to move SOMEWHAT relatively quick. Sure there's a difference in explosiveness between me, and an elite weightlifter .... but that different isn't to obvious (by sight) against loads that aren't heavy.

Most of these putzes look horribly SLOW pulling under, that's just a technique and coordination issue.
Serious kilos are "lost", because they do not MOVE like a Weightlifter.....Weightlifter = steel trap, or a fast-soulless-robot
They move like a guy who does the classic lifts once or twice a week and think "thats good".

Same for mobility. Chase is only 23 or whatever. Immobile as fuck: shoulders, knees, ankles.
Looks lost in the OHS/catch position under a snatch.
That's just another fucken reason upright High Bar ATG paused squats on a regular basis are nice ..... it just mashes you into position.
I believe the scientific term is called "loaded passive stretching".

I figure this should help. Also trunk stability.

Wasn’t expecting all that, and have zero background in the classic lifts, but yeah, sounds about right.

There’s a lot to be said for a good looking squat for its own sake, and for the benefits of upright atg paused squats. I don’t even think they have to be high bar, but then I don’t put much stock in a difference between high/low unless one is into putting the bar halfway down one’s back or looking up one’s own ass as some are wont to do.

Had never heard the term “loaded passive stretching” before, but I agree 100% on its utility and have benefitted from it.

This is my new favorite blog title.

This is my new favorite blog title.
I saw some articles or a blog on it a long time ago. I might have the exact terminology or wording wrong.

A dumbed down version is:
- conventionally stretching your hamstrings by "touching your toes" stretch pales in comparison to weighted RDLs over a full range of motion (that you can stand to execute, and execute good). That's not to say you should just take a load and let the load stretch you out, rather the load is used in a used in a conventional movement .... concentric, eccentric, etc

this time kicks.

In the winter here, I was taking 3 morning walks per week at 5 am in 40F with shorts, no undies, thin kool-tech shirt ...for cold therapy thing.
Only did that for a month or so. Wife does cold shower thing in the morning.
Soon it will be too hot for either of those methods (water pipes hoses in attic, phoenix,az)

I can't say I noticed anything.
(completely unrelated but) most people don't notice their blood sugar is 130 all day long either.....
