Someone on this forum was recommending just doing hangs from a chin-up bar. I guess that's grip endurance?

Re: Pressing Matters - Peez' Log
It seems a big component of grip strength is just hand size, so you may be a little out of luck? I'm sure your grip is pretty strong considering all the grip fighting you do in judo.
A possible suggestion is to try out bouldering. Doing route repeats will give you a sick forearm pump. Also rope climbing. I never see them anymore, but when I was a kid we had them in our gym class at school. We used to climb them for wrestling practice. That's a pretty great strength builder.

Re: Pressing Matters - Peez' Log
I just don't worry about it. I figure my grip strength will be strong enough for what I need.
You won't be able to do you heavy deads with DOH anyhow.
Karl's suggestion to try some rope climbing or bouldering seems worthwhile tho.

Maybe I'm screwed. For Judo it's good enough but pulling DOH ...KarlM wrote: ↑Fri Dec 15, 2017 4:49 pm It seems a big component of grip strength is just hand size, so you may be a little out of luck? I'm sure your grip is pretty strong considering all the grip fighting you do in judo.

Good idea ... we used to do some rope climbing in school - I remember being scared of falling down once I got to the top. We don't have anything like that but I think somewhere I saw people doing pull-ups from two short bits of climbing rope. That might work in the rack ...

Do you have shorter fingers than @chromoly? She seems to be all right using the hook grip?peez wrote: ↑Fri Dec 15, 2017 1:38 pm So what do you guys do for your grip? For me just DLs are apparently not enough. I used to be able to DOH 325 but not anymore. Above three plates I supinate my left. No hook grip, my fingers are too short.
Got myself a bunch of CoC grippers but I can only get a few reps on the 1.0 (sad, I know) with my right hand and I can't fully close the 1.0 most of the time with my left.
I just made a 185 kg hook grip PR, and I don't have the longest fingers either. It can be done.
edit, the next morning:
On the other hand I was saying for the longest time that hook grip sucked and that alternate grip was the only way to go.
What made me change my mind was that using straps felt much better to me than mixed grip.

CoC. Be prepared to use straps for pulling, if you are training your grip you don't need to double-dip and the CoC is much better grip training than deadlifts anyways.
Farmers carries, grenade stuff, high-weight high rep DB rows, fat gripz. CoC or grippers are probably the best, because it's not static strength.

Hmmm I'll take your work for it. I have a set of CoCs lined up on my desk at the office. I'll need to remind myself to use them daily then ...Allentown wrote: ↑Mon Dec 18, 2017 6:11 am CoC. Chest day, I guess. 5s for bench.
Bench 45x10, 135x5, 185x3, 225x5x3
Also, 75s of farmer carries with a 40kg kettlebell in each hand. Evil stuff.
5 BW chins on fat bar.
CGBP 185x8, 10. Da pump! Arms are fried, serve with a side of salad.

Re: Pressing Matters - Peez' Log
DL day.
45X5, 145X3, 235X3, 315X1, 375X1, 435X1 (lightly rested the bar on the thighs but it never stopped moving so I guess this was OK, but will stay at 435), then 375x5 for volume, holding on to the bar for a 10-count on each rep.
23 minutes total.

Thanks, Jan!
Pressing time ... (or, rather, pressed for time)
45x10, 135x5, 185x1, 215x1, 190x5 ... all I had today.
Then 7 BW chins and 90s farmer's walk with 2x40kg kettlebells. Huffing and puffing. 18 minutes total.

Squat day
45x10, 145x5, 235x3, 285x1, 345x5x3. 30 minutes total. Nap time (I wish!)
Last night during Judo my knee buckled once as my partner (a member of the US national team for many years ... amazingly gifted Judoka) threw me. Was a scary moment but it held together after all. I have squatting to thank for that methinks.
That finishes the mandatory art of the program. Tomorrow is tomfoolery day.

Deload week - YAY
Deload week - YAY!
Just a bunch of pressing today, up to 200x2,3,3 in 18 minutes. Maybe some squats tomorrow and benching on Friday. Maybe. Judo tonight and on Saturday.
Otherwise, crazy work-wise. 14 hour days around Christmas, the shit hit the fan at the office (nothing I did or could have done - a small consolation). Oh well, we'll pull through.
