Since this topic has been bumped, it's worth pointing out that Walter Kurda (mentioned above) started a log up here in 2021 and has been posting updates fairly regularly.

Because if you don't he calls you a cunt.

Lyle has some serious personality issues. He's written reasonably intelligent articles in the past, but over the past decade or so his general demeanor has devolved something more befitting an angry 10 year old who just had his favorite toy taken away from him. He takes everything personally and attacks anyone he disagrees with in a very childish manner. I haven't followed him much lately, but while I can't say I disagreed with some of his arguments over the years, the way he expresses them is just . . . bizarre for a grown man.

He's said he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, but I think there's something else going on. It's a shame, because while he seems to be intelligent, most of what he has to say gets lost in his delivery, and he doesn't appear to be a very happy person.

See he's got all those extra years of training so of course he's supposed to be stronger than a 35 year old. Isn't that how it goes? :D

Exactly this. It's weird because he is actually very helpful at times - I mean long paragraphs of explanations to a member's questions on his Facebook group. Other times he'll just say something along the lines of "that's stupid", but including more colourful variants.

To be honest, despite this, I find him pretty trustworthy...he's just a bad communicator.

And since someone said why would anyone follow his training advice, I've had the most fun and progress lately using his Generic Bulking Routine.

He think it's funny. He even created a FB group for people to complain about him. I haven't looked closely but it seems to be mostly just him and 1-2 of his mates posting memes.

I don't know why the fitness industry seems to be full of weird people.

I'm not sure why, either lifting attracts weird people or lifting has a detrimental effect on your character I don't know.

Neither. The subset of people you're noticing is "people who have a hobby for a job or a hobby that they take extremely seriously". You will find the exact same weirdos in every hobbyjob area. Normal people do things shallowly or maybe deeply for a while and move on.

I guess I can't say every hobbyjob area, merely every that I've seen with no reason to think it's merely the subset of activities I've been involved with.

The saying goes that most people get into lifting because they're short, fat, socially awkward or some combination of all of these.

As a short fat socially awkward nerd I approve of this message.

Any here recall a thread on IrongarmX discussing a mass email Lyle allegedly sent promoting a book he wrote about his shadow life in the porn and strip-club world? Maybe 8 years ago or so...

I'd bought one of his books years earlier, so I was on his distribution list for that email. I wasn't sure if it was a joke, but then figured he'd gotten weird enough it was probably legit. I think he sent it out on a Friday, and by Monday he'd taken it down and issued an apology after one of his friends/colleagues got in touch with him and asked what in the hell he was doing. It was titled something like "I walk among the night"

So was the email genuine?

Yes, he'd written a book about his foray into POV porn and was selling it to his subscriber base because . . . there's clearly overlap between dieting, bodybuilding, and porn. I don't believe he actually sold any of the eBooks before reason set in and he yanked everything.

I think he announced he'd gone into treatment for bipolar disorder soon after that.

Oh you, the fitness industry....So 5 years after Brad Schoenfeld published his paper that would "Blow current hypertrophy volumes out of the water" (it did not), it's time to look at optimal training volumes for hypertrophy again.

This was all stimulated by "Doctor" @drmikeisraetel doing his typical backpedal about volume, solving the problem he created in the first place.

Because, having defended MOAR VOLUME, more or less the entire (supposed) "evidence based fitness industry" has gradually walked it back to,
surprise surprise, recommend what I was saying all along.

And have been saying for oh....about 20 years or so.

Guys, guys, seriously. Just save yourself some time when you do these videos and say "Yeah, Lyle was right." It's so much faster on top of saving everybody who listens to you give them terrible advice so much time. It would keep them from wasting 5 years of their training time for sure.

The fitness industry is a f****g joke.
