...I'm finding this very interesting.

The yearly fluctuation due to the forests/plant life in the northern hemisphere.
We've managed not to screw that part up to terribly bad.
I'm surprised that yearly cycle hasn't been muted somewhat in the last 60 years.

It's happening. Man makes it worse. Debatable what can be done now to mitigate. Hopefully the quasi-equilibrium doomsday scenarios do not come to fruition.

No on knows how things like shale formations releasing large amounts of methane gas to the atmosphere in the ocean impacts it.

A quick back of the envelop calculation shows that my woods and native prairie gives me a negative carbon offset. That means this is all your fault, and you all should send me money for your carbon offsets.

Get with the program: It's called climate change... Haven't you noticed that we are still getting winter, and the coastal cities haven't flooded like they were supposed to in 2008 ;) ?

It must be true... because depending on how much meat I eat during a given workday directly influences my methane production which anecdotally I have noticed will occasionally raise the temperature at my desk...

I call them hot farts.

It's true and an existential threat because @tersh tells me it is.

Honestly, I don't fucking know, but I trust experts on everything else, so why not this?

Analogy:

[some ugly multivariable PDE here of which x is one term]

Given no other information, solve for x.

Let's assume the expert consensus is only 25% likely to be right about the climate 50 years from now.

My best chance of being right is still to agree with them. If I try to be a contrarian and make up my own position, it's even more likely to be wrong.

It's not as if I have any special insight they don't...

I use sin(x). And then tell them how easy it is to remember because:

[equation]d/dx(sin(x)) = cos(x)[/equation]
[equation]d/dx(cos(x)) = -sin(x)[/equation]
[equation]d/dx(-sin(x)) = -cos(x)[/equation]
[equation]d/dx(-cos(x)) = sin(x)[/equation]

And then assert that the pattern is very easy to remember.
