11/3
Squats
245x5x3 7 mins rest

that's it

No presses due to shoulder and no deadlifts to no sleep. Deadlift later tonight or tomorrow. Or Monday. I'm focused on continuing my Squat LP.
I'm still high bar and my form is coming together a bit, although the last rep of the last set tends to be universally on the toes ugly, but I force it back and up. I'll see how Monday's 250 goes, I may add the wednesday light day before failure. My NLP ended around 240 and last Spring's HLM got to 255x5x4 I think before my elbows caught a train to Waukeegan.

Youtube forced me to hear the new(?) Metallica single "Now that we're dead". An ironically named song, considerin they've been dead to me since that Load album.

11/6

Squats
250x5,5,2 8 mins rest
235x4 4 mins rest
These got super grindy, RPE 10. boo.

Bench
wondering if my shoulder will implode...
115x5
145x5
175x5x2 plenty in the tank. I think my shoulder is ok?

Squats are going to a HLM and Deads (I guess I'm avoiding deadlifts?) are going on wednesday.
presses are up in the air. I reached out to John Petrizzo and I may check out a dr in Paramus. Scary stuff, but I'll sort it out.

Now that I'm off the LP it's diet and running time...

11/7/17

Chins
10 singles neck to the bar 2 minutes rest in between

Lat Pulldown
55x15, 70x15
Wide grip done on my $6 DIY pulley

I contacted John Petrizzo about my shoulder. He said that sounds like subacromial impingement syndrome.
He said take two weeks off of presses and that rowing and chinning should be fine.
If after two weeks it still bothers, then I take it to the next level with the MRI.

Light Squats and deadlifts tonight, with a focus on fixing knee slide

11/8
Squats
210x5x3 - light day. Form still sucks

Rows
135x6x3 pendlay Style

Deadlifts
330x6. Can't count. Peee Aaah.

Tried recording my lifts. I couldn't get a good angle due to the weird layout of boiler room/ liftatorium. I got the idea to try to move the power rack, despite the fact it is basically flush against the joists. I got it 45° tilted, which should be better for form check vids. Surprise the vids still suck due to tripod malfunction.

I'll post these here. When I figure out how to make something viewable I'll ask for help in the technique forum

Squats actually look pretty good to my eye.
For what ever that's worth.
Flat back and you keep the angle pretty well, knees aren't caving,
You probably do a better job than me intentionally driving your knees out actually.

My best reps are when i look more or less straight ahead, and then i look up just a little as i drive the bar up with my back on the ascent.

I'm sure you'll get more nuanced feedback from the experienced lifters when you post in the technique form.

keep up the good work, aug.

11/10

Squats
Medium day
230x5x3 @twerk

NG Chins
BWx2x6 I miss these. No elbow pain yet.

Rows
135x6x3 2nd set was supine. No thanks.

I can't keep my lower back straight at all on squats. My knees are a sliding.
I'm probably going to kick the vid below up to technique and see if anybody has advice.

Enough procrastinating, I have to pack for a backpacking overnighter with my siblings. My brother and I frequently backpack, but my sister and other brother have never been, so I have to pack their packs I have for them, and pray that they brought clothes that are 1) warm and 2) not made of cotton.

11/13

age: 37 (PR)

Probably not getting to my workout tonight.
Everybody here is sick and if I can effectively put the kids to bed (doubtful) then I'll probably do all the chores I didn't do yesterday, when I was comatose myself. Passing out super early yesterday had an unexpected benefit: today everything hurts less.
The sibs and I had a great time at Harriman state park this weekend, although the local Boy Scouts had overrun options A and B for overnight spots.
There is a definite feeling of accomplishment when you lure city people to the woods for a cold overnighter.

Thanks man. Other than getting over the cold and being chained to a sick kid, I feel great!

10/15

Squats
255x5,4f,4f

NGPUs
E2MOM 3,2,3,2
EMOM 2,2,2,2 = 20

Rows
140x6x3 misloaded-too sleepy to notice

Curls
40x10x5

I ditched my last rep on the 2nd and 3rd set. The last was funny in an “almost went really bad” kind of way. See vid for lulz.
*
The weekend overnighter went really well - all the n00bs carried packs for 1.5 miles over not easy terrain without murdering me in my sleep. We ate well with steak and peppers for dinner and leftover peppers with eggs and Benton bacon(!).
I took them to the Bald Rocks shelter area in Harriman state park. A very pretty piece of NY, if you could imagine. We were entertained by the sounds of a pack of coyotes confusing and killings it's prey. Adorable.
I also scored an Olympic ez curl bar and 200 # of plates for 100. Around here that's like winning the lottery.

This week in Aches and Pains
  • Shoulder feels much better, except when forced to sleep in crib
Elbows still trending towards good, despite “chinups”
Back feels better in general after extended layoff
New development in right hip and hip flexor pain. Exciting stuff!
Back to wearing the carpal tunnel brace. Can't blame this on pressing with extended wrist. Probably from lazy guitar positioning and not giving a fuck about the guitar. That needs to be addressed

Do I even lift!

#54

Post by augeleven » Mon Nov 20, 2017 6:11 pm

11/20
press - finally
(15,35,50,65,75)x5
85x5x4 at almost positive no pain

Squat
260x2@8.5
245 @nope, bedtime

The girls are still sick and we aren't sleeping at all
lifting will be what I can, when I can.

First day back on presses, as per Dr Petrizzo. He said press once a week for a bit, then twice a week. If it doesn't hurt, add the bench

sleep, but mystery gift beer (from awesome brother) first

GWAR rulez!

11/25

Chin-ups
9x3 E2MOM

Squats
245x5x3,225x5x2

Deadlifts
335x4, 295x5

EZ curls
40x8
60x3
40x10x2
45x10

Both kids are having ENT issues and won't sleep grouch the night, so training has taken a backseat. The squats felt easy, but left me winded, which means moar cardio. Same with the deadlifts, which I haven't done since the 8th. stopped at 4 due to back rounding. Cool cuz 335 was my old 1rm. Hopefully I can sneak back downstairs and deadlift done!

Press
90x5x5

Squat - 303 tempo
115x5

145x7
145x7 @ crying again

NGPU
2,2,2 EMOM
(crying)
2,2,2,2,2,3,3,2,2,2 EMOM

EZ curls

Details?

Re: ENT stuff, two more weeks until the tubes go in, and we are on our 6th round of antibiotics for ear infections. Hopefully the recent "cry nonstop any time he is laying down, especially in the car for a two hour drive" thing calms down with the antibiotics until the tubes go in...

The beer was a Counterweight Headway. Apparently it's local to my brother, who was raving about it on tap. I think they're new, but I'm no expert.

We took Z, our 4 year old, to the ENT on Friday and she had an allergy test. She is allergic to everything, and was sleeping on an old mattress that probably has the dust mites. We moved them to the downstairs guest room and she is on SingulAir and a nebulizer (when needed). She has been fine since the move. M ,our 2 year old, started coughing two nights ago, last night keeping us up until about 3. She is just finishing her 3rd round of antibiotics since September. Doc says we need to wait a while for the tubes, maybe next year.

Does the carseat keeping the kid upright help? I find that she sleeps fine if I hold her upright while standing.

that's now a copyrighted farmer's hold variant.

Ours is coming up on 9mo, so the carseat is pretty flat. I suspect it's also a result of 3 days with the grandparents where any cry got him picked up and held, he got spoiled...
Good luck with yours!
