Tuesday night- 11/13/18

Bodyweight- 207.6

Shoulder press- 80s x 7
75s x 6
65s x 7

Deadlifts- 315 x 5 x 3

I was strong enough Tuesday but felt like shit. There was a chili cook off at work that day and I ate so much shit between the chili and like 12 cookies. I had indigestion the whole time I was lifting, so I skipped curls and running. I’ve been going healthier on the food the next few days just to feel better and level out the weight gain. If this weigh in was right, ive gained 6 pounds the last 3 weeks which is a little too much. A week or two of cleaner eating and getting a few runs in will fix that though.

Beans and deadlifting. That's a dangerous game you're playing there, @Briks42. :D

Thursday night- 11/15/18

Bodyweight: 206.2

Bench press: 260 x 8,6

Weighted chins (every 2 minutes): 15 (221.2) x 5,5,5,5,5

Squats: 250 x 5 x 3

Bodyweight came down a little from Tuesday. I’m now at 5 pounds gained in the last 4 weeks which is much closer to ideal for me. So I’ll continue with my normal bulking to try to keep that pace up. Hit my target 8 reps on bench without a problem. Squats are getting hard. But that’s good. I’ll probably try to grind out another 15-25 pounds on this linear progression then change up my squat programming a little.

Sunday morning- 11/18/18

Bodyweight: 208.4

Bench press (every 2 minutes): 240 x 5 x 5
Weighted chins: 47.5 (255.9) x 6,5 (e1rm 302.0)
Squats: 255 x 5 x 3
1 mile run: 9:13

Bench and chins went great. Squats were hard but got them. 3rd set was actually the easiest. First two were slower on the last few reps. The run was terrible. Don’t know if it’s because I hadn’t run in 8 days, because of the gain in bodyweight, or because I ran almost immediately after squats, but i wanted to quit the entire time even though I went so slow. My calves were on fire and thighs felt like cinderblocks. Oh well, got it in.

Tuesday night- 11/20/18

Bodyweight- 208.0

Shoulder press- 80s x 7
75s x 7
65s x 8

Deadlifts- 325 x 5 x 3

Curls- 50s x 5
40s x 9,6
35s x 8

.31 mile run- 2:06

Good workout. Didn’t gain a rep on the 80s on shoulders but gained a rep on the next two sets. Made my ten pound deadlift jump without too much issue. They are definitely getting harder but I’m still good to make ten pound jumps for a while more I think. Picked up a rep on each set of curls despite not doing them last week. Bodyweight helps a lot. Did the shorter run around my parents block. Last time I did it in 1:59. This woulda been the same but some crazy dog ran at me as I was running by and I stopped for a second and crossed the street before starting again. Finished in 2:06 with a nice final sprint up the hill. I’ll be lifting again Thursday morning so will be a quicker than normal turnaround.

Thursday morning- 11/22/18

Bodyweight: 207.2

Bench press: 275 x 6,5

Weighted chins (every 2 minutes): 17.5 (224.7) x 5 x 5

Squats: 260 x 5 x 3

Great workout. Almost got 7 on the bench but 6 was my target so still good. Chins were chins. Squats were very tough but went well. Maybe even a little easier than 255 was on Sunday despite the short turnaround from deads Tuesday night. No run today. Fuck that cold.

Yooooooo, Les, what’s up, bud. Glad to see you as well. I’m just getting acquainted with this board but seems like a cool place. I follow Dana on Instagram and asked him if he was logging at SS anymore and he said that most people had moved over here so I figured I’d give it a shot.

Hope you’re doing well. I’ll check out your log and say what’s up.

Sunday morning- 11/25/18

Bodyweight: 210.2

Bench press (every 2 minutes): 242.5 x 5 x 5

Weighted chins: 65 (275.2) x 4
50 (260.2) x 4

Squats: 265 x 5 x 3

Went a few pounds too heavy on the chins but still hit my target 4 reps (barely). Bench was fine. Squats are getting tough. My plan is to do 270x5x3 on Thursday then switch my programming there.

Don’t think I’ve posted this yet here but my goals for the end of this training cycle (early-mid January) are:
Bodyweight- 215
Squat- 350 (20 pound pr)
Bench- 350 (5 pound pr)
Deadlift- 450 (10 pound pr)
Chin- 100 (315)
Shoulder press- 80s x 10

Tuesday night- 11/27/8

Bodyweight: 210.2

Shoulder presses:
80s x 8
80s x 4
65s x 9

Deadlifts: 335 x 5 x 3

Dumbbell curls:
50s x 5
40s x 9
40s x 5
35s x 5

Good workout. 8 with the 80s matches an all-time PR. I’m about 6 pounds heavier now than last time I did it though. But I’m also off creatine and a good amount of the bodyweight im up is lower body since my squat and deadlift are much stronger now than when I last did the 80sx8 on shoulders. Second set I had trouble getting them to my shoulders to start the set which probably cost me a rep. Deadlifts finally felt pretty hard but they still moved quickly. Felt my knee cave in on the 4th rep of the 3rd set so need to make sure I cue “knees out” on these next week. Didn’t mess me up though.

Thursday night- 11/29/18

Bodyweight: 208.0

Bench press: 290 x 4 (shown)
275 x 5

Weighted chins (every 2 minutes): 20 (228.0) x 5,5,5,5,5

Squats: 270 x 5,5,5 (3rd set shown) (PR)

208 was 2 pounds lighter than Tuesday and Sundays weight without missing any meals so scale could be off tonight or coulda been off then. I’m just proceeding as normal for now.

On bench, 4 was the target with 290 and I got it so that’s good. I had a little hope I might get 5 and crush the target but I knew by the speed of the 4th it wasn’t happening. At some point I’ll have to beat the target if I wanna bench 350 in January but plenty of time (and bodyweight gain) left for that.

Squats were an adventure. First two sets went very well but they were brutally hard. I went into the 3rd set thinking if I got it, it would be with everything I had. Then during the set, my form slipped bad on the second rep. I went way forward on my toes and it took a ton of energy to get the rep and not fall forward. Somehow I still had enough left in me to finish the set of 5 for a lifetime 3x5 PR. Shows that I had more in me than I thought.

I’m changing my squat programming going forward. It will now be like bench and chins. Sunday’s will be intensity day where I do two sets close to failure and Thursdays will be volume day where I do 5x5 on shortish rest. This Sunday the weight will be 275 on my top set with a target of 6 reps.

Here are the top bench set and 3rd squat set:

Bodyweight: 210.4

Shoulder press: 80s x 7
80s x 5
65s x 9

Deadlifts: 345 x 5 x 3

Dumbbell curls: 50s x 5
40s x 9
40s x 5
35s x 7

Weird workout. Lost a rep from last week on first set of shoulders but gained one on second set. My theory is that it’s so hard getting them up to my shoulders that if everything isn’t perfect on that, it can mess you up by a rep or two on the actual set. Last week it fucked it my second set. This week my first.

Deadlifts are getting hard but still moving. I definitely psyched myself out on the third set knowing it was gonna be hard though and Fultz’d the first rep. But powered through it after that. As it starts getting heavy like this I just have to arch and pull my balls off and not think.

Thursday night: 12/6/18

Bodyweight: 210.2

Squats: 255 x 3 x 5

Bench press: 280 x 5 (e1rm 322.0)
280 x 4

Snatch grip deads: 225 x 5 x 4last set shown)

Bodyweight same as a week ago. Happy with that but now ready to start going up again. I started the Montana method 2 week template tonight for lower body (just using week1 strength day tonight then starting week1 again Sunday.) Still going to do my own thing for upper body. But for squats/deads I was just finishing up an LP anyway so figured I’d give this a shot. I did the squats every 3 minutes (start of one set to start of next) because this workout would be too long otherwise which made them a little tough but not brutal. Doing the squats first made bench harder than normal though. I had previously always done squats or deads last in my workout since it was only one or the other. With both on the same day I stuck to the squats/bench/deads format. My target on bench was 6 reps but only got 5. My left hammy cramped a little on the bench sets. Not used to doing them after squats but I’ll get used to it. Not a concern. Last up was snatch grip deadlifts. I also did these every 3 minutes to save time. They felt pretty damn good considering I’d never done them. Form felt good and my upper back is definitely gonna be sore as balls. Low back got a very good pump too. Went beltless on those. Not sure if that’s the recommendation. Overall this Thursday workout is a lot of sets and pretty exhausting but no individual set is very tough. We’ll see how the new Sunday and Tuesday workouts go next week. I’ll upload and post my last set of SGDL here for anyone to see if they look fucked up.

Sunday morning- 12/9/18

Bodyweight: 213.4

Bench press (every 2 min): 245 x 5 x 5

Weighted chins (every 2 min): 12.5 (225.9) x 5 x 5

Squats (every 3 min): 225 x 5 x 6

Lifetime high bodyweight. My previous high weigh in was 211.4 back in early 2015. I think it’s a little inflated probably but still trending upward. Bench and chins were fine. Squats were part of the new Montana Method program. Called for 6 sets of 5 with 70%, and I did it on short rest. Seems easier on paper than it is to do. The weight is light but the short rest and the total volume adds up. I’ll probably be pretty damn sore from this even only using 225.

Tuesday night- 12/11/18

Bodyweight: 210.4

Squats (every 3 minutes):
250 x 1 x 2
255 x 1
270 x 1 x 2

Shoulder press (every 2 minutes):
75s x 4 x 4

Deadlifts (every 3 minutes):
345 x 1
370 x 1
310 x 4 x 5

Dumbbell curls (every 3 minutes):
50s x 5
40s x 10, 5
35s x 8

This new Tuesday night workout is a bear now with doing Montana Method for lower body. The squats are actually pretty easy. Working up to some heavyish singles but nothing crazy. Shoulder press I’m changing up to be more volume-based and on shorter rest rather than amrap to failure. Gonna try to work up to do a little more volume each week on these. Deadlifts are where this got real tough. Worked up to a single at 90% which was 370 pounds for me. It moved pretty well but took a lot out of me. Made the 5 sets of 4 with 310 feel way heavier than 310. On paper I thought they’d be fairly easy but they weren’t. I’m also not used to the short rest either which surely played a factor. I need to build that work capacity up though because if I’m doing this much volume, I have to do it on short rest or they will be marathon workouts. Even with the short rest this workout took 1:45 total, which is about as long as I can take. It’s gonna pay off though.

Thursday night- 12/13/18

Bodyweight: 212.8

Squats: 255 x 3 x 5

Bench press:
295 x 1
262.5 x 8,6

Snatch grip deadlifts:
225 x 5 x 4

Chins (7 minute density block):
37 reps

This workout was only an 1:37 long so shorter than Tuesday. Fun shit though. I feel great. These workouts are tough but no individual set is a ball breaker. It’s just the cumulative workload, and I’ll get used to that. Hopefully before the weights start going up. For the density block, I started with sets of 3 every 25-30 seconds but by the end was down to singles every 15 seconds or so. They are brand new to me so my body should get used to them too.
