Here's some of the shit at a nearby place. Some of it is normal "how to fire a gun" stuff. Some is...yeah.
These MFs
With the current restrictive gun laws in place, many individuals are looking for alternative ways to protect themselves and their loved ones. The Atienza Protective Pen / Edged-Weapon course is the answer. Atienza Kali is a very sought out organization their instructors are here to give you an introductory course in the art of unconventional self-protection tools starting with the pen and transitioning to the blade. The Pen & Knife course will teach some simple techniques (targeting, deployment, defense) and discuss the pros & cons of each tool. The 4-hour course is derived from the Atienza knife curriculum modified specifically for Gun For Hire students.
This is the stuff that get people in trouble. Instead of running I'm going to try to stab you in the neck with a pen! Sounds like a ass whippin waiting to happen
Kubaton, or go home..

I guess all that visceral fat provides natural protection against stab wounds. And also surgery.

Urban carbine classes and secret ninja pen knife are needed for the rugged streets of Woodland Park?
I need to harness the eye rolling power of a full class of seventh grade girls for this one.

I have never seen someone with Nick D's physique in any of the many combat footage videos I rotted my brain with in my early 20's.

Registering for the course comes with a "Thin Blue Line" Punisher sticker for your Ford Taurus.

I might be missing something youre referring to, but for sure there are some fat people who are awesome fighters. Roy Nelson comes immediately to mind. So does Butterbean (but he was super strong underneath the fat, so maybe not good comparison.)

For every one of them, though, there are 50 fat guys who think they are awesome fighters even though they get light headed tying their shoes.

Way too low.

I will say that in sport grappling like jiujitsu, where you are essentially forced to deal with someone on the ground, a very large person is a fucking problem.

I'm so used to seeing "pro-wrestler" Akebono that I forget he could totally fuck somebody up back in the day, especially when fighting from on top.

Weird...

We run stuff like Stop the Bleed classes and offer RSO (range safety officer) certification courses. I know the IDPA does stuff, but I think it's a little less sensationalized than that.

Imagine...............

Your out with the wife and two street toughs jump out from around a corner.
'Don't worry babe I got this I have been taking courses at the local gun range! Get behind me" you reassure her.
"Thank god for those courses." she swoons.

You pull out your tactical pen to dispense righteous justice. That is until the thugs pull out switchblades of their own!

Your wife shouts at you. "Why is your so much smaller than theirs!"

You wake up in a cold sweat. It was all a terrible dream. You remember hearing about a pen defense course that seemed like a terrible idea! Thank god you did not spend $250 to take it.

Well done.
Having a pen defense course is missing the whole point of defending yourself with a pen: when one lacks an appropriate weapon for the situation and cannot flee or negotiate, grab anything at hand and go savage. Pen, keys, stick, rock, a handful of sand, belt buckle, apple in a sock, it doesn't matter, what matters is
1. Use something other than your fragile hand bones.
2. Complete abandonment of social norms and restraint.

So they’re teaching a self-defense course that takes mostly natural human movements, over complicates them, and organizes them into an (I’m guessing) almost hostile dogmatic program?

Okay, that wasn't very subtle, Lehman.
