I just looked up the price, they say it's 250$ ...

That's like the price of a pair of Antas...

Every once is a bluemoon he offers up a decent tip, cue, or nugget of information (he probably got from Max Aita).

But generally, he has a hard explaining technique concepts, and doesn't explain other weightlifting concepts/idea/topics very well at all.

In a few days we're coming up on 4 years of the 5 years in the title. Anyone have a spreadsheet on progress they'd like to share with the class?

They effectively have.

The holding company for the SSFGs has a $200,000 line of credit from covid funds. Roughly $20,000 has been obligated.

$30,000 has been paid out across 5 SS gyms of some flavor as direct payments.

Doesn't this go against their beliefs or something?

I'm sure it's OK because the government steals their money anyway through taxes, so really they're just getting some of it back, or something

Well yeah, but so did the lockdowns. You don't have to forego operating in society as it stands just because you hold an opinion about they way you think it should change.

A side note, I actually don't see anything wrong with that thinking in most cases these days.

If you're going to be forced to participate, you might as well get every benefit/advantage you can out of it.

Same, the locality where I live charges me $12 a year for a "dog tax"
Shit like that is just a blatant money grab that reminds me of the memes about all the "fuck you" fees on your electric bill

But, most importantly, are we owning the libtards concurrently?

I don't disagree in a vacuum. I'm pointing out the hypocrisy of a specific group. The extreme rhetoric, grand standing, and holier-than-thou moralizing goes much farther than disagreement and calling for societal change. Taking advantage of a government 'handout' that they previously described as 'evil' simply because it benefits them personally really shows their true colors.

This kind of thinking is endemic of that entire group: what's good for me is good. If doesn't benefit me it's bad.

At the same time people bemoan student loan forgiveness the government forgave about a billion in farmer's loans. Didn't see the media screaming about that. Don't forget the agricultural industry is almost entirely supported by government subsidies ($20 billion per year). But those people are the God fearing, Republican voting backbone of this great country so they deserve it. Unlike those college going hippies.

Their website lists 37 gyms worldwide, however this mixes franchise and affiliate gyms.

https://coaching.startingstrength.com/g ... ngth-gyms/

They have 13 affiliate gyms, ie gyms where there's an SSC but they haven't signed a franchise agreement,

https://coaching.startingstrength.com/g ... iate-gyms/

and so 24 are franchise gyms.

To be fair, lockdowns across the Western world gutted the fitness industry. It was in need of a "restructure". Back in the 2000s every yuppie and his dog was opening a cafe, "oh I'll just sit and drink wine with my customers all day, lovely." And so a restaurant strip would have 2 very successful restaurants, which next year became 4 moderately successful ones, then the following year 10 dismal failures, and a year or two later 2 moderately successful ones, a hair salon, a payday loan joint, a general cheap goods store, one shopfront converted to a cheap residential property, and a few rundown joints with For Lease signs up. By the 2010s the same was happening with fitness, we just had too many. So a crash was coming, the lockdowns just made it happen a lot faster and nastier.

Again, since to have an SSFG you need an SSC, there's the limit to their growth even if everything else were going fantastically. If 100 SSCs means they have 24-37 SS gyms, then for 100 SS gyms they'd need 300-400 SSCs.

They’ve been saying that shit for a while.

You’ve gotta add 2+ pounds a week to do this. That’s like 1,000 calories a day of surplus.

Such liars.

Calling it "lean mass" what a joke. It literally sounds like too good to be true diet pills

I’m not sure it’s a “lie.”
They have different ideas about “lean” over there. Different ideas about cardio as well.
They’re just confused and wrong, broadly.

Chugging a gallon of water is an instant 8.5# of lean mass. Wearing different shoes and forgetting to take your lifting belt off gets you way more than the extra 1.5# you need to reach 10 pounds.

Point being that, from what I can remember, most added mass, when done in conjunction with strength training and eating in a massive caloric surplus is usually about a 50/50 split between fat and muscle with possibly some added weight from bone density gains.

1,000 extra calories per day for most people is a stretch. And most of the people showing up in those gyms don’t need to add total mass anyhow.

This is the skinny athletic kid doing gomad running any halfassed resistance training logic. Overfeed them and make them lift and in about 3 months they’ll put on about 25 pounds and about 12-13 pounds of that is muscle.

This shit doesn’t work the same with 50yo housewives.

Doubtful they have the means to truly suss out if someone could do a recomp over that period of time and put on 10lbs of lean mass while holding total mass constant.

Puffery and corny marketing.

Adding 10lbs of "lean mass" where "lean" means 50% fat... 50% fat is A5 wagyu beef.
