Because it sounds more manly than "Orthopedic shoes for flaccid racists with bodies like melting candles."
Ah, makes sense.

#realmendontwearshoes #itsnotacrossitisatfortolerance #nomaamicumfirst
I'm guessing because Justin is making them and Justin is a boot company.
But those shoes don't cover the ankles. And probably shouldn't, I guess, considering their intended purpose.

Even though I suspect I really do understand their insistence on calling them boots (methinks it has something to do with penis), it still seems weird, considering much of the masturbatory pedantry that's been on display over there, from time to time.

ETA: Maybe I'm the pedant. I don't even mind the Homer Simpson-esque aesthetic so much, but a shoe that doesn't cover the ankle or leg doesn't count as a boot.

I just can't get past that little oversight.
Yeah I'd call it a shoe too (bowling shoes), but I'm sure Rippetoe is the one who pushed the "boot" term lol. He's a turbo boomer that rides Harleys, only shoots 1911s and revolvers, and only drinks "quality" whiskey. Also this was a great chance for him to make wooden lifting clogs.

The old timey weightlifting footwear were boots .... picture curly mustaches and one arm dumbbell muscle clean and press. In that era, they were more boot looking, and I suppose (I am guessing) the were termed Weightlifting Boot.

I would imagine as the technique for the squat clean and squat snatch became more refined over time, and people realized having unrestricted extreme dorsi-flexion in the bottom of the clean and snatch was better.

Maybe at one point, split cleans and split snatches ...a guy could ram their entire body weight + barbell load into the boots ankle or something. Sort of like extreme knee-wrapping helps with a squat. But with a bi-laterial squat clean or snatch .... I would think you'd want as much ankle flexion as possible (depends on lifter anthropometry).... and one wants to get down into that position quickly.

Also, speed of foot movement becomes more important in all three lifts. Obvs the jerk ... so I'd imagine a big heavy clunky boot is suboptimal.

Rip wants to stay with this ole'tyme terminology I guess.

EDIT: just found this, again.

============================

There's a thread in SS reddit page about them.
The guys in the reddit thread cut me to pieces regaling me of tales of their goodyear welt workboots, etc.
I can't imagine this would be any better than a Rom2 with competition insoles.
I don't want comfort, I want arch support, stability, traction (I wonder what the bottom of that boot looks like?)
I don't want the pliable leather and cork (?) shoe to conform to my foot slowly over time ....I want my foot to conform to the shoe.

Also I think the goodyear welt is adding to the height of the shoe. The entire sole looks excessively thick. I don't mean just the heel-height, the whole bottom looks like a work boot. People deadlift barefoot for ROM advantages, these seem even worse than traditional O.W.L.shoe.

I own 2 pairs of Justins and my older pair has a 3/4 "goodyear welt" and it's not real stitching going through to the sole. I've had them since 2016 so parts of it have separated and it's 100% glued together. The stitching is just for show so the people on Reddit are dumb. Unless you buy a pair of leather soled boots or buy a high quality brand (Justin isn't one of them) you're not actually getting a goodyear welt.

I will say though that it's impressive my 6 year old Justins have made it this far being only glued together and became relegated to working on cars, riding motorcycles and horses the last few years. Almost like epoxies and glues have advanced a lot since the 70s or something I dunno.

Regarding the shoes thread on Reddit…

Another SSC ~booted~ for not toeing the line. The SS crowd is the most fragile crowd.

I can’t imagine how much more bullshit this company can peddle to try and sell a membership.

Hmm. This also makes sense. Forgot all about those shoes/boots I've seen in old pictures of Norbert Schemansky.

Haven't watched this yet (not sure if I will, to be honest), but I'll assume the orgasm being referred to is for the self-assured smirker in the background (and not his sexual partner(s), nor Gillenwater)...

Semi-serious question: Is it supposed to be "normal" to be unable to achieve an orgasm at 54?

It is when you’re selling the cure.

Semi-serious remark: if you combine 54 + very overweight + no cardio + GOMAD + squat heavy to failure every week, I'm pretty sure that this has an impact on your sex life.

I think a "normal" person should be able to do this with no problem, but I know things like obesity suppress testosterone and basically neuter your sex drive. About 1/3 of US adults are obese so that right there is already a huge drop not including all the other conditions people get from being sedentary most of their life.

Hmmmm. Strange language in that post/video ad.

[Stream on consciousness]

I agree with the previous posts about obesity, diet, lifestyle impacting sex life in our modern era.

Usually that topic is about ED. Funny they chose "orgasms".

Also, I'd be more concerned with giving orgasms than having them.
(not that i am having problems with either of these things at the moment)

I really don't want to watch that video.
