This was my first real effort at trying sumo. The lighter/warmup sets felt pretty snappy, but things went off the rails a bit as it got heavier. I was also scraping my thumbs across my thighs a lot, so I went with straps and thumb over the bar which was much more comfortable. Don't foresee this becoming my competition stance anytime soon, but who knows.

Finally a decent deadlift session after feeling off for the last several weeks. Top set was a bit sloppy, but everything else felt great. I'm down about 10 lbs and an inch more off my waist since late Mar, and have been struggling to find a solid start position as a result. I put my belt higher (above my belly button) and moved the bar about a half inch closer to my shins, which both seemed to help. Prior to my April meet I'd actually done the opposite and moved the bar out towards my toes a bit, which felt great at the time. I think that now with less of a gut to get in the way while I get down to the bar, I was getting too upright and hips too low. Hook also felt much more solid. Sometimes I get too worried about "setting" my thumb when really I just need to jam my hand into the bar and grab as much thumb as I can. Anyway, huge relief to have even a decent deadlift day.

But I was pretty gassed and not mentally in it after the second set of 350. Took a little breather and got refocused for the rest of the session.
