On a motorcycle trip last week through the Colorado Rockies with my dad and his buddies. That was fun.

Monday 8/26

Bench: 7x4-275@6-8 (2min)
Hex Bar: 4x4-445@6-7 (3min)
DB Row super set with DB circuit: 4x10-65 and 4x10-10 (for all 3 shoulder exercises) 2min

Lifted a couple times on the trip...just enough to not get overly sore this week...hopefully.

Friday 8/30 (I lifted Wed but website was down and I'm too lazy to look up what I did!)

Bench: 3x3-300@8-9 and 3x2-300@8-9 woof...very high RPE. Fatigued from pouring concrete I think.
DL: 4-435@6 and 2x4-415@6 (3min)
DB press: 2x12-55 and 10-55 (2min)
Shoulder circuit (side, front and back): 3x12-10 (2min)

Have a great Labor day weekend!

What were you riding, Dean? I have my R 1200 GS ready to go, but I just can't seem to find the time to go. Very lame. I may just do a couple day trip in Arkansas this fall. I had planned on the New Mexico BDR. That doesn't seem to be happening.

I went back to my roots and rode a 1989 Honda Hawk NT650GT. It was my second motorcycle and far and away my favorite. I have had 25 different Hawks now. This one has some nice mods but a bone stock engine so I was really working that little 50hp 650 twin pretty hard! 2000 miles of pretty relaxed riding was just what I needed. With the GS, you should be riding all over this nation. Holy cow, that is a fantastic bike to soak up some miles and then get after it a bit when the road gets fun!

I hope you make it to Arkansas at least. Some great riding down there for sure. I'm getting the itch again already so I may steal your idea and see if my dad wants to do a weekend trip to Arkansas.

I've got my eyes peeled for a 03-04 Kawasaki Z1000, Yamaha FZ09 or an Aprilia Shiver. I just want a bit more HP than the hawk. It isn't much fun on the interstate....oh, who am I kidding...I just want to rip wheelies! :)

I sold my Beemer and my WR and am looking at getting a dual purpose bike for all the great trails around here. I'm even considering a Zero FX electric. Any thoughts on that?

I've never really looked into electric bikes. I know a guy that was racing them in the electric series a few years ago and he was constantly frustrated...that was a developmental bike though. I'm sure they have worked all the bugs out by now. I do wonder how long recharges are though. It would suck to ride for a hour and have to wait 30 min to recharge.

Congrats on the sale of the WR and BMW. So what type of trails will you be riding? Single track, double track, gravel roads? How much time do you spend on highways to get to the good trails? I don't have much experience with dual sport motorcycles. I've owned a KLR650, XL650 and the late 80s Africa Twin. I've ridden a couple others but it was a dealer demo when I worked at a motorcycle shop so just a few trips to and from home. Honestly, the KLR was ok in the dirt and ok on the highway. Not really great at anything but decent at a lot. The XL was a great dirt bike...sucked getting to the trails but very fun once there. The Africa Twin was decent on gravel roads and double track but sucked big time on single track. Pretty fun on twisty roads and the interstate though.

It seems that the latest iteration of big dual sport bikes are good at pavement, decent at gravel and crappy on dirt. Then again, my favorite bike ever for riding the gravel/dirt roads through the pineapple fields was a late 70s CB500 (street only motorcycle). It actually drifted awesome and could hit some smallish jumps. It didn't have the high center of gravity like these new dual sport bikes...I think that is why I really liked it on dual track dirt.

Interesting about the CB500 - I grew up riding 70's CB175/CB350 twins on the trails behind my house. They were actually pretty decent! I delivered newspapers in my some what rural area with the 350 when I was 13/14. Laws were relaxed back then.
I've also owned a XL600 which wasn't too bad on the street for short rides.

What interested me in the Zero FX was it supposedly outruns any other dual purpose bike acceleration wise with 46hp-78lb/ft, and has decent range and off road ability. The best part is very low maintenance. With all the equipment I have on the farm the last thing I need is something else to change oil/filters/etc. on. Fuel is basically free with my own power generation. Sounds like I'm talking myself into this:)

I'll be 60% street, 30% logging roads/trails in the mountains, and maybe 10% difficult trails.

@Skid, we will look forward to your report on the Zero. I find electric bikes interesting for the same reason. You have to get over the "lack of character" and embrace the simplicity and torque. I would love to have one as a second bike for around town.

@Skid, I can totally relate to the desire for less engines. I don't farm, but keeping everything going just living on 10 acres requires a lot of time and effort. Let us know what you decide and maybe a ride report/impressions.

I say that about engines and I'm pretty sure I'll be grabbing either a Grom or Zpro 125 in the next couple weeks! :) Small bikes are fun.

Monday 9/2

Bench: 5x6-262.5@6-8 and 5-262.5@8 (2min)
Hex Bar DL: 4-480@9 and 2x5-425@6 (messed up my hand position on 480...I really hate it when the hex bar isn't balanced right)
DB Rows: 4x12-65@8

Next time I go into the city I'll see if I can take a test drive and report back!

Wednesday 9/4

Bench: 2-315@8.5, 4x1-315@8 and 3x3-275@7-6 (2min)

Man oh man, I am a lazy bracer. Once I figured out how to brace again, everything moved better. ha ha I'll only learn that lesson hundreds of more times!

Tuesday 9/10

Bench: 7x4-277.5@7-9 (2min)
Hex Bar DL: 4x5-415@6 (4min)

Still working outside and the combination of heat and manual labor is making bench tough right now. I'm hoping that I will adjust to it and maybe the temp will drop below 90f (or 32c for the international readers) in the next week.

@deant, @JohnHelton, when/where might you be in Arkansas? I’ll be in Mountain Home around Thanksgiving.

Nice! My wife wants to take a day or two and go to Eureka Springs while we're around for Thanksgiving. She hasn't been since she was a little kid.

Wednesday 9/18

Bench: 2x2-305@7, 4x1-305@7-6 and add slingshot 2x8-305@8 (1 or 2 min rest)
Squat: 5x3-365@6 (3min)
10min Bro block: banded tri (medium): 60 reps and HC (30lb): 42 reps

@alek, you will really like that area. If you like mountain biking, plan to do a bit because it is very good.
