RepOne

Bands, chains, wraps, straps, racks... are you sure this is training related?

Got an email for this from OpenBarbell today: https://www.reponestrength.com/#device

Is this a replacement for the OpenBarbell device?

Yes. Does anyone have more info on when it will be available and what it will cost for individuals beyond what's on their site? That site has been up for a while now but I haven't seen a date or any real concrete info. I know they have a good track record so I'm sure it's coming, but it still kinda feels like vaporware at this point to me.

Also I'm afraid when it does come out it's going to be WAY more expensive than OpenBarbell was...

I sort of got the impression it will be subscription-based.

Well that alone will make it more expensive, but I'm guessing there will be a large initial investment required for the hardware too.

From what I could tell from their initial email is this unit is more than just the bar speed measurement device. It is paired with a tablet for the "athlete kiosk app." This is going to be a lot more expensive than the openbarbell.

Does the original openbarbell do 3D motion tracking at all?

No, only one dimension, and that isn't necessarily restricted to a straight line.

Details released on the new product:
https://www.reponestrength.com/

$399 for the VBT device, and then $99/mo for the software service that does autoregulated program building, etc.

Yeah, the device itself has good value, but the software is ridiculous. I also wonder if they've locked it down so that the device is only usable with their software. If so, I wonder what they think their market is.

Yeah I want to know exactly what features will be available (if any) without paying $100 a month. This information is conspicuously absent from the website...

It's cool that the device can track sets x reps and barspeed and integrate that into training, but the AI portion of it should be inline with other "AI-like" offerings, which are ~$15 - $30 per month.

I could potentially be interested at 399 but 99/mo for software if it's required is a definite nope. It seems like they talk about "athlete management system" so maybe that subscription is more targeted at organizational users and not important for individuals?

Alanis, my sentiment analysis AI, laughed.

Fuck the $99/month thing. Jeez.

One of the screenshots looked a lot like the OBB software, maybe download that now in case you could get grandfathered in for the free version? Can't hurt...

From their online description: Compatible with the free RepOne mobile app, and with StrengthOS for training orgs.

I'm 99% certain that they must have edited that since the site first went up earlier today. Must have realized people were confused.

From instagram:
Soo exciting! Will the membership to strength os be needed for individual use?
unfortunately at this time StrengthOS only supports group training (no individual athlete app). Individuals can purchase the hardware alone and use it with the new version of the open source OpenBarbell app we're developing for RepOne. We're aiming for compatibility with StrengthOS when we build in functionality for individual athletes.
to be reiterate, there will be a free mobile app at launch that logs your training and RepOne Sensor data.
