Where do you like to wear your belt?
Over the past week or so, I've been told by a handful of people that I should try wearing my belt up higher than where I normally wear it, which is where my navel falls dead center of the belt. I've been told to try wearing it so that it's almost touching my lower rib, and just above the navel or so that the navel is at the bottom edge. The Anderson powerlifting guys who do the SBD sizing demo say around the bottom rib, or maybe covering a rib or two.
Where do you like to wear your belt? Does it depend on the lift? I've squatted and deadlifted with my belt at the same low spot at the same tightness for each lift for a while now. Bench, too, actually.
I'm curious to hear how others wear their belts.

I wear mine higher for the press, but that's it.

Re: Where do you like to wear your belt?
Not sure my opinion counts, since I don't even squat 4 plates, yet. But I was wearing it with the center of the belt at my navel for a while. Then I started doing 3-0-3 tempo squats (used in The Bridge), and my lower belly was getting pinched bad and it was really uncomfortable towards the bottom of the squat at that slow tempo. So I tried placing my belt high (covering a rib or two), and now my squat (and squat variations) feels a lot better. Only problem is, covering a rib or two can sometimes makes it feel like I might be straining a rib, which is sore the next day.
I've also noticed that having the belt higher also makes it easier for me to take a big breath and hold it at the bottom of a paused pin squat, which I had a hard time doing with the belt lower. Oh, and now my lower belly doesn't have any bruising after deadlifts or squats, so that's a plus.

I've got like 3" between my ribcage and pelvis, so that problem kind of solves itself.

I wear mine low for squats and pulls, navel would be toward the top of the belt. I’m fat though, so I’m ok to have it down over my hips
For bench and Ross it’s higher, sitting just under lowest rib

lower for squats, slightly higher for deadlifts.
But not that big of a difference. My navel and lower ribs practically overlap.

Lower for squats, higher for deadlift. Both lifts, the belt covers at least one of my ribs. 3", 4" belt, it doesn't matter.
Oddly enough for bench and press, I like the (3") belt even lower, I try not to even cover my ribs at all. With a 4", the belt is going to overlap with my ribs no matter what.

I have it with my navel toward the lower part of the belt on squat and bench, but I wear the belt higher on deads, especially in the back. Can't get into position otherwise.

I didn't know there were options for belt placement, thought you just put it on and it settles into the same position every time.

Yeah this. Pretty sure mine sits mid-navel for all lifts.broseph wrote:I didn't know there were options for belt placement, thought you just put it on and it settles into the same position every time.

Re: Where do you like to wear your belt?
I used to wear my belt a little higher for deadlifts when I used a shitty 4" 10mm single prong Inzer. The belt never felt broken in even after years of use.
With the Wahlanders I have now, the position is basically the same for the squat and deadlift. Navel along the centerline of the belt.

Squat: 4 in 13 mm Belt right below lowest rib and navel near lower edge of belt
Bench: 3 in 10 mm Belt right at the spot of the apex of my arch following the line of my lower rib as much as possible...and as tight as possible.
Deadlift: 4 in 10mm or 13 mm Belt right below the lowest rib and navel in the center of the belt

Re: Where do you like to wear your belt?
For general purposes, I've been trying to put the belt where my belly button is near the bottom up front but as low as possible in the back given that position.
No idea if that helps anyone.

Bottom of the belt on the navel for squats, higher for deadlifts, slightly lower for press. Never used it for bench or any other lifts.
I don't use the belt in any of the lifts on The Bridge that don't say "w/ belt".

Fuck whoever made that shitty poll, I cover at least 4 ribs with mine and it is just under 3"
Although equally, the lower edge sits just above my pelvis, so if you go by that it's probably more normal sounding.
Fuck you all and your standardised body standards bullshit!

Re: Where do you like to wear your belt?
It's been a while since I deadlifted with a belt, but I just entered "meet prep" mode and have resumed pulling with belt again. It turns out that when I pull, I wear my belt so high that the bottom edge is at (4") or above my navel (3"). The belt overlaps with my navel for squat, bench, and press.

Bottom of mine is just above hip, and it covers some of the lower ribs where they are on the sides/back.

Re: Where do you like to wear your belt?
In truth it depends on the lift. I also wear a smaller belt for deadlifts. I also have such a short waist that "dead center of navel" and "almost touching the bottom rib" are the same position.
