Does YOUR metabolism change with weight loss?

What's a carb? A car part? What's a macro? A type of camera lens?

Does YOUR metabolism change with weight loss?

New @Austin article: http://www.barbellmedicine.com/does-you ... ight-loss/

"as you lose weight you burn less calories as a way for the body to protect itself from losing weight and this effect has been estimated to result in a decrease in daily energy expenditure of 30 calories per kilogram of weight lost....the majority of this is mediated by a reduction in Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis (NEAT) – in other words, you spontaneously start moving around less"

You need about 30 calories to maintain a kg of bodyweight (varies depending on individual, activity level etc.), so losing a kg results in a decrease in your food needs of about 30 calories. Is this effect in addition to the NEAT effect? Am I confusing two distinct effects or are these the same effect expressed in two different ways or ...?

I'm also curious about the NEAT effect. Is fatigue a side effect of the body "spontaneously moving around less"?
Would this be why it is more difficult to move heavy weights when on a calorie-restricted diet?

NEAT reduction is real.
But it goes both ways. I’m increasing calories right now and have tons of energy.

Short answer: yes. I've got a very adaptive metabolism, I think.

Longer answer though: I think for most people it can be mitigated somewhat with strategies like refeeds and diet breaks.

I take diet breaks about every 4 hours.
