Re: Pellet grills
Is the heat on the right side, and the chimney on the back on the right? Did not watch the video, but that seems like a pretty big oversight.

Re: Pellet grills
I'm thinking pellet selection will be critical in a food application. I have no idea which ones would be best.

Re: Pellet grills
No, Watch the video, its worth the time.
Pellet hopper on Looker's left, burn box on bottom, sear box on right, has a fan for convection so chimney placement is probably in fine spot.

Re: Pellet grills
Looks like Treaeger doesn't offer a sear box on any model.

Re: Pellet grills
That is a neat idea.
My gas grill is dying and needs replacement. Does the Woodwind take a standard 20# propane tank? Or those little 1# bottles? I can find the info

@Hanley I've been looking at this thing for a year. It kicks ass.

Hmm, requires 120v. Oh well.

Re: Pellet grills
I'd feel so weird plugging in a grill.

Re: Pellet grills
If the food was good (and easy), I'd get over it real quick.
The idea of a wood fire that maintains own temp on is very appealing.
Pellet smokers are popular in competition.. I never thought about their power source.. probably a small portable generator.

Re: Pellet grills
Nothing. I'd just have to run an extension cord from inside the house. Or I guess convert one of the lights on the patio to a light+outlet. There was already very little chance I would buy one, but add in even a minor inconvenience and that drops to 0. Very cool, though, and I will be jelly if anyone does get one.

Re: Pellet grills
I wonder how long a big ass battery could power that stuff.

Re: Pellet grills
I've never delved very far into the workings of UPS's and inverters, but you will need something like that to convert the battery power. marine batteries are also usually recommended for back up power application.
But quality of power is something you need to be sure of so you don't damage your pellet device.
As far as i've heard, even the motors can be negatively affected over time by dirty power.
Pellet stoves/devices have control boards that are sensitive electronically, so a generator should either be an inverter style like a honda portable (overpriced imo, but just as an example) or a non inverter generator with<5% thd to protect the electronics as well as the motors (long term)
iirc, main line house current isn't exactly pristine, and that <5% thd number correlates pretty well to typical house current.
I have a non inverter genny with copper coils and it is suitable for electronics.
But if you want to use a genny near people, you'll probably want to go for quiet, more portable inverter "honda-esque" style.
I have read that the generac inverter gennys are not high quality like their main, american made, house and industrial units.
