FINDINGS

Supraspinatus Tendon: The majority the fibers are retracted to the distal acromion. A few anterior most fibers may remain intact. A tendon stump at the supraspinatus footplate demonstrates globular low signal intensity on all sequences, likely
representing the calcific density seen on the prior radiographs.

Infraspinatus Tendon: Moderate tendinopathy and partial-thickness undersurface tearing distally.

Subscapularis Tendon: Mild calcific tendinopathy, similar to the prior radiographs.

Teres Minor Tendon: Intact.

Long Head Biceps Tendon: The long head biceps tendon is torn and retracted distally into the bicipital groove, with the distal tendon stump likely seen on series 4 image 21.

Rotator Cuff Muscles: No atrophy.

Labrum: The labrum is torn along its superior and anterior portions.

Glenohumeral Articular Cartilage: Preserved.

Acromioclavicular Joint: Moderate hypertrophic arthropathy. Downsloping distal lateral acromion with decreased subacromial space.

Bones: High riding humeral head. No acute osseous abnormalities.

Fluid: Moderate glenohumeral joint effusion that communicates with fluid in the subacromial/subdeltoid bursa. Fluid is seen within the subscapularis recess and around the distal long head biceps tendon.

Other: Not applicable.
I saw a Greg Doucette vid talking about this calcification problem and what he's doing to avoid a tear and rehab it. There are probably several, the guys puts out a billion videos and I only watch the odd one here and there. Anyway, Any time there is a complete rupture, think real hard about how it affects the rest of your life when considering to re-attach or not. Do not let rehab time to be a consideration. It takes as long as it takes to rehab, make the best long term decision for YOU and your future life. Making a decision based on rehab duration is usually a regret later.
It sounds like you really did a number on it, but I wouldn't spend time beating up on yourself about going inside with the grip. That's how I have preferred to do flips, including one around 1200 lbs. You had a time-bomb in there and didn't know it and you may well have the same time bomb on the other side. In the end, it's really just for fun for most of us anyway, don't sacrifice too much for it. You want to be able to play with the kids, and one day with the grand-kids maybe, so let that hold more weight than future comp placings and rehab time. You are guaranteed bursitis in that shoulder down the road, and probably osteo-arthritis. Be a little nervous about that calcification and what can be done about it. A lot of docs just blow that stuff off as unavoidable, but it's not.
Glucosamine is being shown to be effective in helping to keep soft tissues and arteries more pliable - like an anti-atheroscolosis. BPC-157 is a synthetic version of the lubricant in your joints, and works to basically lube up the site so that imflammation goes down and it can heal without the repetitive stress. Do a little digging, but don't do it instead of conventional docs. And find a GOOD ortho, if possible. Somebody that actually fixes stuff and doesn't just consider all futures full of NSAIDS.

You're probably not in the mood for guesswork (I know I wouldn't be), but I (and likely others) appreciate you sharing the details. Injuries are obviously personal, and in the context of strength training, it's not always easy sharing shit like this for the world to see.

I read anatomy shit probably way too frequently, in practically the same vein that others enjoy TikTok and Netflix for their own enrichment.

The bit about the hypertrophic issue near the acromion sounds like it's referring to some sort of subacromial impingement? Seems to go hand-in-hand with a lot of the shit the "functional" guys warn people about, regarding internally-rotated shoulders.

@Hardartery mentioned a "ticking time bomb" in reference to the tendon calcification. I assume that means calcification is a chronic issue that was brewing for a while? He seems to know a good bit about this (the benefits of experience), so he could likely shed more light on that. I was under the impression that shit could clear up spontaneously, but I guess anything's possible with the human body. Somebody out there in the world was probably born with two dicks.

As for the rest of what he said, I think it speaks to an attitude that doesn't get expressed enough regarding the long term; even though most of us do what we do with the intent to make some measurable progress (get stronger, faster, lighter or whatever), I hope you're comfortable with whatever timeline might be required for you to be "well" at some point.

I hope you're hanging in there mentally.

Yeah all this is up for discussion on Monday, I'm definitely not trying to be short-sighted or anything, it's just that (so far) what I think/thought I was dealing with wouldn't have a major benefit from surgery and that's the impression I was getting from the ortho. It's totally possible with the MRI results this guy sings a different tune and recommends I get it done. Maybe it's the little amount of BBM-indoctrination I have flowing through my veins but I'm just trying to take it all one step at a time, and try not to let my mind drift into the 'well this totally means I'll suffer from X in the future'.

I actually did start on the glucosamine and friends yesterday afternoon after reading your discussion in the other thread, gonna stay on it for a while and see if I notice anything...

No worries, and I definitely don't mind sharing stuff like that. It doesn't really bother me and I don't view it as too 'personal'. My baseline seems to be 'hammered shit' and if someone can learn from it more power to 'em...

K now that might be personal hahaha...

Honestly, it's hasn't even been a full 3 weeks yet but that's been the worst part for sure. I like to think I'm fairly level but I have absolutely had mood swings over this where I go from being (probably obnoxiously) optimistic to being really in the dumps about it. It's not a great experience. Lots of inner frustration on the how and why I got here.

Pile on all of life's other stresses and its definitely not easy... but I'll get by...

Sled was not an error, I added weight because I thought last week was too light, and my quads being totally smoked determined that was a lie hahaha

For some reason these squats are pissing off my right adductor...

Just didn't feel like using the straps. Goodmornings are basically the same movement for me so maybe I'll just use them in both slots for now. One for EMOM one for sets of 8... I dunno...

Training apathy hit pretty damned hard because I took the call to schedule my surgery mid-squat warm ups and the soonest they can get me in is... mid fricking July?

Recovery feels like forever when it takes forever to start...

Rituals of Strength 4 rundown...

I showed up and yelled at friends while day drinking, but I did win 10 drop ins at East Ave by tying my 45 lb Ironmind pinch block PR during a little bonus event...

So at least when I'm ready to get back into action I'm covered for some event days hahaha

Bicep work with a band surprised me. Normally I don't feel like I get a good contraction/squeeze at the top no matter how hard I focus, but holy crap was it easy with a band. I might just do that for a while until I can curl like a normal two-armed bro...

Truck temp was 102 today... remember that scene where the nukes go off and Sarah Connor gets blown away in T2?

Only two weeks of 'regular' training left so I'm having some fun with some heavier weight while I can...

Maybe it's the post BBQ bloat but squats felt super strong, like there'd be a significant PR in there if I had another month or two to train it.

Axle DB PR though, 6 weeks ago I couldn't get a single push Press rep with the CDB on my weak side and that was 90 lbs, today I'm repping 95 strict for 6... not totally analogous to each other but I'm taking victories where I can...

No sled drags because the driveway just got sealed...
