Nice lifting! Nothing wronf with going for it on the third attempt, we all miss a lift here and there. I always found competing to elevate my lifts over the gym.

I had been hoping for quite a while that she’d get into it; I’m excited to see how it goes.

This is awesome. Being able to talk about training, programming, and PR’s with your life partner is fun.

11/7/22 Monday [Training 119] [math]2^3[/math]
Cutting - Week 1

AMBW & Umbilicus (7-day)
193.7 & 36

Leg Press
Sled + 360 x 8
Sled + 385 x 8 x 3

DB Bench
55s x 8 x 4

Sumo DL
135 x 8 x 4

Lat Pulldown
99 x 8
110 x 8
121 x 8,8

Cable Crunch
66 x 8,8
72 x 8

Triceps Pushdown
Single Arm
28 x 8
33 x 8

Session Length
0:58

Notes
Trained less than 48 hours after the meet; may not be the smartest thing I've ever done... My low back still has quite a bit of fatigue going on, but none of this exacerbated it. I have a slight strain in my left upper arm, and I'm not exactly sure what it's from other than it happened at the meet, of course. It made the db bench less than stellar. Getting into position was no fun, but the actual pressing was fine. I could "feel" it on the first rep of each pulldown set, and it also affected the pushdowns, too. I didn't dare try curls of any kind. It feels okay right now though. We'll see what Wednesday brings.

Sumo was super easy, but I just wanted to get some movement in.

Grippin' It
Guide x 8
Sport x 8 x 4

Easing into this.

Edit: I just raked the front yard, and it did wonders for my arm strain.

female interested in training? Picks out new custom belt, new knee sleeves, WL shoes, leggings, wraps, straps, workout attire, comp singlet(s) ...some neat terry cloth towels to wipe sweat .... and new gym bag to put all this kit in.

IOW: an excuse to buy "clothes"

Have you mentioned the uncontrolled pee-ing on the platform at meets? lolz

Eh, maybe. She's lifted before, but not powerlifting. She's also very active, teaching about 7 fitness classes per week as a side gig. She's also seen me compete, but not other females. On Saturday, she saw lots of females compete, several setting state records, and a few of them were older than her.

On the drive home, she asked if I thought she could that, and I said yes. A couple hours later during the drive, she told me she wanted to compete. There you go.
Meh.

My middle daughter had the same reaction to seeing a powerlifting meet for the first time. It was the summer before her senior year in high school. "Yeah. I want to do this." She loved the energy of a meet. Of course, now she is on the powerlifting team at UT Austin and is totally nuts about the sport.

I was hoping that my wife would have had that reaction at the first meet. She was very surprised how positive the whole experience was, but she wasn't quite hooked. Seeing the other women, ranging for a 10 year old to a Masters III, did it.

I was also happy that my kids saw two young girls--the 10 year old and her 13 year old sister--competing. The 13 year old set a record, too. My daughter was especially intrigued by the 10 year old.

I'm late, but congratulations on the meet, even if it may not have gone as you'd have liked. Sounds like you still enjoyed it, especially considering your wife's inspirations.

11/9/22 Wednesday [Training 120] [math]2^1[/math]
Cutting - Week 1

AMBW & Umbilicus (7-day)
193.2 & 35.93

SSB
330 x 2 @ 6
340 x 2 @ 7
345 x 2 @ 8, 8.5
e1rm = 397

Comp Bench
205 x 2 @ 7,7,7, 7
e1rm = 238

Sumo DL
365 x 2 @ 7,7,7, 7
e1rm = 423

Session Length
< 1:08
Forgot to hit "finish" until driving home.

Notes
I've got some gnarly bruises/welts on my back where the bar rests for squats from the meet, so I did SSB instead of lbbs today.

Arm strain is still here. It did affect bench; I could tolerate it, but I'm going to try an take it easy the rest of the week; hence no direct arm work or pulldown/pullups today.

Sumo didn't feel awkward like it did early this year. Maybe my feet are a little narrower today?

For @JohnHelton:

Grippin' It
G x 5
S x 5
T x 3
.5 x 2
1 x (2,ff)
1.5 x (ff,ff)
1 x (2,ff),(2,ff),(2,ff), (2,ff)

A bit of a wide stance conventional pull. Kind of like how Austin does sumo. Doing a more traditional sumo will definitely feel awkward until you start to groove it. I started pretty light because I was afraid of hurting myself.

Probably... the video from the side looked like a conventional pull. I might upload that one, too.

11/11/22 Friday [Training 121] [math]2^2[/math]
Cutting - Week 1

AMBW & Umbilicus (7-day)
192.6 & 35.73

Pullups
Slow Eccentric
Bw x 4 x 4

Leg Press
Sled + 450 x 4 @ 7,7
Sled + 475 x 4 @ 7
Sled + 500 x 4 @ 7.5

DB Bench
75s x 4
80s x 3
75s x 4,4

Paused Sumo DL
315 x 4 @ 7,7,7.5, 8.5

Cable Crunch
66 x 10
72 x 8,10

Triceps Pushdown
Single Arm
28 x 10,8, 8@10

Barbell Curls
65 x 6 x 3

Session Length
1:22

Notes
Haven't had 5 plates a side on leg press in a long time, not that that's anything to be proud about. On my third rep with the 80s on db bench, my left arm got a little wobbly, and the db got a little closer to my face than I liked. So I actually did something intelligent, which was to not try a 4th rep and put the 80s back for the 75s. The arm strain is mostly gone, but it probably had an effect here. I think I'll be able to progress with the db's pretty well, and I like that they're making me work on keeping stabilized.

Paused sumo dl kinda sucks, but that just means it works. I'm actually liking the sumo thing right now. I may stick with it while cutting rather than doing conventional sgdl. So far, I have accumulated essentially zero back fatigue from it, which is fuck king amazing.

Grippin' It
0.5 x (4,ffff), (4,4), (4,4), (4,3f)

Each pair of parentheses represent a set done with first my right and then my left hand. So I did 4 reps with my right and 4 failures with my left on the first set; 4 reps with both left and right on second and third sets; and 4 reps on my right and 3 reps and 1 failure with my left on the fourth set.

148 x 8 x 3

Sumo DL

50s x 8 @ 9.5

Leg Press
Sled + 360 x 8 x 4

Session Length
1:03

Notes
Pretty good session. I did not do any bro stuff because I had to get to a meeting with the director of the rec center at the university. We're going to try to get a student powerlifting club going, and I'd be the faculty advisor for it.
