SITE ISSUES 2/13/2018

#1

Post by d0uevenlift » Tue Feb 13, 2018 6:26 pm

As most of you already know, we had a temporary outage of the site due to spammers and bots hitting our site and search function really hard. Our host temporarily disconnected us because it was a strain on the CPU (we have a shared server).

For now, we have temporarily disabled search, and we have restricted search to registered forum users only. This means that guests and bots and spammers will no longer be able to use search once it's back up and running normally later this week.

In the meantime, we apologize for the inconvenience of both the outage and the search feature, but it will come back in no time.

If you have any suggestions or would like to offer help, please DM me.

If you just want to complain or vent, please DM @mgil.

WHAT!

I maintain that we are too popular for our own good.

Posts and responses work, but frustratingly, you get an error message first, then you see the post. I'm working on it.

Anyone know what the goals are for people who set up bots for this type of thing? Is it intentionally focused on one site? I don’t see what there is to gain.

Do any of those bots have Texas IPs?

They're just search engine crawlers mostly I would've thought, with possibly the occasional vulnerability scanner looking for out of date software to exploit.

Minor note for when the main stuff is fixed, topics stay highlighted after you post in them. You have to click your own post to have the highlighting switch off.

Just something i noticed. Not needing anything done about it.
Thanks, Marc.

#fakenews

Y'all are restricting search to unregistered users just to make them register and increase your member count

For whatever reason, I'm getting some "General Error" screen every time I try to post. The post actually goes through, it just seems to be the redirect back into the thread in question that fails. I don't know if anyone else is having this problem, it COULD just be Firefox: The Web Browser That Gets Worse With Every Update.

ETA:
General Error
SQL ERROR [ mysqli ]

Unknown column 'word_id' in 'field list' [1054]

An SQL error occurred while fetching this page. Please contact the Board Administrator if this problem persists.

^
That's the error message.

Notifications (mentions) seem to be broken, as well.

Not sure if it's related, but I tried to send a PM, and it looks like it disappeared. I'm willing to help if there's anything I can do.

Looks like notifications for quotes aren't working. Can anybody confirm this?

I just updated my log, and it shows up at the top of "new posts", but is still on page 2 of "your posts". Also, I still get that "General Error" after every post.

Yep, we’re aware. Just no time to address these issues yet.

I don't care if there still is "Issues", I'm just glad we are back. Thanks to everyone that worked hard to keep the Exodus running!

yeah, yeah, me too. That must be why I got so few notifications. it's not that I'm unpopular, it's a glitch.
