We need to nuke Boston before it's too late
Besides losing Super Bowls, Boston also loves making robots that will take over the world.
They need to be stopped.
They need to be stopped.

**muttering** Where was Butler?...Rowe, Badamosi...*spits* Jordan Richards....Jordan Richards
Oh, robots.
These folks have been producing impressive machines for a while now. I, for one, welcome our new, robot overlords.

Maybe we should as them if a straight pull or a curved pull can get more weight overhead...

That was actually my first thought watching this video.damufunman wrote: ↑Wed Feb 14, 2018 4:32 am Maybe we should as them if a straight pull or a curved pull can get more weight overhead...

Well it was mentioned that robotics guys might have some insight into complex dynamic systems... don't want to look for the words in the thread though. I'm sure you remember it.Hanley wrote: ↑Wed Feb 14, 2018 7:46 amThat was actually my first thought watching this video.damufunman wrote: ↑Wed Feb 14, 2018 4:32 am Maybe we should as them if a straight pull or a curved pull can get more weight overhead...

That's cool and all, but I'd rather watch the bloopers/outtakes from those videos.

I wonder how much of the motion is by design. It's fascinating out it starts with wheels close, the moves them back away from the weight, then scoots the wheels forward to initiate the lift.

Re: We need to nuke Boston before it's too late
If it is done "right" the robot uses some algorithm to figure that out. Whether it's done "right" or not is hard to say. It's possible the engineers just programmed in specific movement patterns to perform particular tasks, which would make these far less useful, so for BD's sake I hope they have optimization routines running. What you described above sounds like it was contrived by an engineer, knowing that adding the load when it breaks the floor is effectively a step change in the COM, otherwise that's some pretty sophisticated AI figuring out that that would happen ahead of time.JonA wrote: ↑Wed Feb 14, 2018 8:05 amHanley wrote: ↑Wed Feb 14, 2018 7:46 amThat was actually my first thought watching this video.damufunman wrote: ↑Wed Feb 14, 2018 4:32 am Maybe we should as them if a straight pull or a curved pull can get more weight overhead...

Bananas might also solve some problems for backwards time travel.

So, I've been mulling this and maybe it's wrongthink*, but uhh, when does violence against Boston Dynamics become justified? @shaymus nailed it with the thread title.
Thanks scientists. Just hanging out in friggin Waltham, making the singularity that much deadlier.

Just make sure your robot insurance is up to date, and things will be fine.

This company has been around for actually a pretty long time, it has been bought and sold by Google - do they have a single product that has seen widespread or even narrow adoption, anywhere? At least Skynet had some revenue.

When they become sentient , I'd hate to be one of those R&D peeps in the building ...
