I have always done all of it. My Dad always did all of it. He fixed up tractors and cars in the winter when we couldn't pour concrete or lay brick and block because of the cold, and I was out there with him. We swapped the bad engine out of the work truck in an afternoon together, new clutch and everything, the replacement engine arrived in the bed of the truck it was going into. It's tough letting other people do what I can do, and frankly do better most of the time, just because I'm not permanently settled here and don't have the facilities. It feels unmanly.Skid wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 7:50 pm I do most of my own maintenance too; just changed the timing belt in my daughter's Mini. However the older I get I sometimes take it to a shop for an oil change, especially on my diesel F250. Nothing like trying to catch 14 liters of hot oil spurting out the big drain hole on the back of an oil pan and missing the drain pan because it shoots out so far. Ford should have put the drain hole on the bottom.

Re: Hardartery - Recreational Outrage
Tuesday 4/30/24
Squats
225 x 5
315 x 5
405 x 5 x 2 sets
405 x 4 - the fourth rep slowed way down and I'm not supposed to be grinding at this stage
585 power curtsies
Seated Leg Extensions - Atlantis machine
stack x 13 x 2 sets
I was having some bar slippage issues, which is weird given that I don't low bar but the sweat was of profound quantity and there wasn't enough shirt to provide traction I guess. It was 98 degrees (36-37 C), but that is lower than it has been by a few degrees. The partials did not go any deeper than last time, but that's probably okay. The leg extensions felt a lot easier but I just gassed out at 13 reps, same as I really felt like I was just gassing out on the squats. This was likely my last squat session before I fly out and I doubt I will do any lifting in France so probably close to 3 weeks before I squat again.
Side note, I did an upper session last week that was not logged. The reps weren't there but 315 went easier than I expected on incline.

I had the same question. I was pretty sure incline but in my mind there was the possibility that you were just pressing those weights.Hardartery wrote: ↑Sun May 05, 2024 12:37 pmYep. If/when I hit that in a pressing session, I expect more jubilation and excitement shall be forthcoming.DanCR wrote: ↑Sun May 05, 2024 1:37 pmI had the same question. Re: Hardartery - Recreational Outrage
Saturday 5/25/24
First workout after the fattening. Although, honestly, I didn't really gain weight in France, I am up a few pounds on the scale (Different scale because I'm in the US not home yet) but that could be largely bloat from flying. It happens.
Squat
245 x 5
335 x 5
425 x 1, 2
Had more int he tank, I was just being cautious and trying to get back into it a bit. The shoulders were really tight and not wanting to loosen up and the bar felt insanely heavy on my back but actually pretty easy once I started the squat. Just squeezed it in before bed.
****non-lifting related remarks now. Toulouse is awesome. I kept getting asked if I was from New Zealand when it was discovered that I don't speak much French, which given my complete lack of Kiwi accent was confusing until I got stopped in the street to ask me if I was a Rugby athlete. Toulouse just clinched the European title, and are apparently a long standing dominant team. So, everyone was just assuming I was a Rugby player, which doesn't hurt my feelings at all. Also, I got an Italian suit with a lot of hand stitching and alterations that fits me like it was made for me, at a thrift shop for 35 euros. The thrift shops are full of clothes that fit me. That never happens. I ate everything I could get my hands on, and as I noted in a different thread discovered a club gym that had no problem with letting me in as a member - and it's only 215 euros for the whole damn year. It's got platforms, bars, racks and a wall of weights among other things and is supposedly home to a collection of high level athletes from PL, Rugby and Oly as well as some rowers and I think throwers. It would be a pretty killer training facility and atmosphere. I almost didn't leave.

Re: Hardartery - Recreational Outrage
addendum tot he rambling: The epicondile was pissed off most of the trip, gradually more and more as it went on, and the triceps tendon where it crosses the outside of the elbow got very sensitive to touch. The rest was supposed to eliminate that stuff, not make it worse and introduce new problems. After squats two days ago I am now in much better shape, it all stopped hurting for now, even massaging the epicondile is pain free.

It rarely works that way. As much as I’ve joked about continuing to fuck with my adductor because I’m an idiot, there is a method to the madness.Hardartery wrote: ↑Mon May 27, 2024 9:07 amThe rest was supposed to eliminate that stuff, not make it worse and introduce new problems.

Re: Hardartery - Recreational Outrage
Last time I travelled and gave it a rest, all the tendon pains went away. Both quad tendons and the epicondriles. One epicondrile came back to bitch and I was hoping it would shut up with a second rest but alas, tis not the case. It also has apparently become difficult to procure BPC 157 in the US, at least online using a payment method that isn't blockchain based.DanCR wrote: ↑Mon May 27, 2024 9:32 amIt rarely works that way. BTN OHP - from the rack
135 x 4 x 3 sets
Rear Delt Raises? - I still don't know what to call these really
135 x 10 x 2 sets
So, the last thing is the same as an exercise that has popped up some other places. I don't know what they call them either, the difference is usually you see people lying on the floor face down and I just do these standing up. Bar behind the back I just push it backwards as high up as my ROM permits in an arc. The lying down version usually involves DB's I believe. They really hit something weird in the lats, but mostly I do them for shoulder mobility.

Friday 5/31/24
Hang Cleans - not real Cleans, these are probably muscle cleans technically
135 x 5 x 4 or 5 sets
185 x 4 x 3? sets
Lateral Raises
75 x 8 x 2 sets
Trying to just feel some things out and make decisions. The hang cleans made my right hamstring grumpy at 135, but it cheered up at 185 for some reason. The shoulders are so tight, it is real work to try and loosen them up right now. I am undecided on where to go with things. For ego reasons I think it would be cool to progress up to 100's for laterals. Ego is literally the only reason to do that, it might even be counterproductive in other ways. The epicondyle needs to chill, I have concerns in the back of my mind about tearing something and that is not a good fear to be harbouring. So, I have to reformulate to deal with the shoulders a little better, deal with the forearm, and decide what to focus on to progress what I want to progress.

I need to unlock a real OHP, at least as far as it applies to Log Press, and get serious about my DL.DanCR wrote: ↑Sat Jun 01, 2024 9:51 amWhat do you want to progress, currently?Hardartery wrote: ↑Sat Jun 01, 2024 8:04 am So, I have to reformulate to deal with the shoulders a little better, deal with the forearm, and decide what to focus on to progress what I want to progress.
