Like most things, information of a personal nature can be used in both positive and negative ways.
We aren’t asking folks to send us photo IDs or buy things from us so that we have personal information for a reason. Given some of the recent events in social media, I think it’s worthwhile to have some level of anonymity. Having a username here with other corroborating information are simply more data that some bot is going to harvest.
Just sayin’
+1. No one knows who I am, and I want to keep it that way. (⌐■_■)
That's understandable, and that why I suggested that the age thing would be optional. My wife and I have both been hacked at various points in our lives. My wife has ZERO online presence and an unknown (no) credit score. If they want your info, they can get it. You need to take measures to protect yourself (freezing your credit on the three agencies is a good start, and having different, strong passwords for important sites is a must).
As far as signatures, it's nice to not have them here.. they can get a bit wordy and just get in the way of the content.

It was a joke in that a fair number of people here know who I am.

If it will increase hosting or other costs, then I'd vote no. Otherwise, I don't care, but why not provide it for those who want it?

I don't care one way or the other. It's easy enough to find for most people with the rankings page or checking the first page of their log.
It looks like a bunch of people already included it in their location field, so that seems like a fine work around.

I don't really see the point. If the age is important to know, it can be looked up on the rankings page.

Yeah, I'm trying it out in my location field. As long as it's optional, I say why not?
When I'm reading about someone's programming in a random thread, or even in their log, it's nice to have a quick reference.. but no big deal if we pass on the option. I'll live.

I do think the information is useful for those who want to share, but the location hack seems to work well enough.

Please don't do signatures. I've been on multiple forums that had them, and I think they're distracting from the content being posted. Relevant info about someone is in the sidebar and rankings page.

Sweet. I agree they just get carried away. Love this forum, by the way.
