Bands, chains, wraps, straps, racks... are you sure this is training related?

Belt Hole Spacing Idea

#1

Post by TwoFoursStrohm » Wed Jan 24, 2018 10:30 am

Anyone ever had those days where you end up in-between hole spaces on your belt? 1 is too tight and the next is too loose? I assume the manufacturers cant really make the holes much closer together w/out giving up structural intengrity. I thought of something that may be stupid but who knows (I'd be willing to try it out if Pioneer wanted to send me something...one can dream?)

I was wondering if anyone knows of a belt manufacturer ever trying this idea out for hole spacing on belts. The idea is you would have 2 different rows of holes that off set each other by half an inch or so and maybe be 3/4 inch from each other. I figure with the amount of toggle that the belt buckle prong has would allow it to insert into either line of holes (or you make one a little looser) .

Back of napkin sketch attached. And I realize that when using this second row of holes that the belt wouldn't be a perfect "ring" around and would be skewed slightly by a few degrees but I don't think it would matter. Anyone think this would work?

You thinking something like this?

The prong can slide up an down a little bit depending on which hole its going into. I think that could work, but I'd be curious about how the belt would feel with the hole being off center. Maybe no difference?

almost exactly. I don't think it would feel much different and would at least be something worth exploring. Pioneer can use this idea free of charge as long as they send me a sample!

Great idea, assuming the hole spacing is feasible. I hate having to choose between too tight or too loose.

This is my biggest gripe for lever belts, I feel like I would have to choose something that's too tight for some movements, and too loose for others.

There's a solution to that.

By which, of course, I mean getting a second lever belt.

What about a ratchet strap instead? I think @JC probably made a belt out of used car parts.

Thanks! Nice quick reply also. Maybe Matt will make a few for testing.

I put on a sweatshirt or an extra layer when I'm in between belt holes. Usually adds just enough so that I can fit into the hole up.

An extra layer could just be another t-shirt, not necessarily a sweatshirt! But the short answer is to just get more sweaty.

This.

Our gym gives out free little towels. I just jamm/wrap the towel around the back end of the belt....or something.

Not IPF legal. Of course neither is anything else Pioneer makes, but it still meets the technical specs so it's ok for local USAPL meets.
