Calgary Barbell's Bryce K. and Connor Lutz demonstrate how to optimally grip the bar for a comp bench.
I grip this way already, but don't drive my thumb into the bar the way they are suggesting, which stiffens the wrist joint. I'll give it a shot tomorrow.

Re: Optimal Bench Grip
Just tried it out with bar only.
Very easy to do. Such a small thing.
I believe i felt what they were talking about at the touch position.
See how it goes tomorrow.

Thanks for posting this!
We should have a Calgary Barbell thread where we just post all of their stuff. It's really, really good material.

Re: Optimal Bench Grip
Tried the grip with my thumb jammed against the bar and it doesn't feel right to me as it cocks my wrist too much. Perhaps it takes some getting used to?

Re: Optimal Bench Grip
I used the grip today. I don't even get exactly what they mean by the thumb thing. However i was doing it felt really good though.
I'm just doing the internal rotation thing w/ my hands. Just sets things in place better. Don't have to think about it hardly at all.
Thanks for posting.
