Re: 2023 Training Goals
Hi Bench guy! I got some weird stuff in the shoulders benching the other week, felt like Rice Crispies being eaten in there. The delts have been sore to varying degrees ever since. I still benched, but something isn't thrilled. I can't pinpoint if it's anterioir or medial delt, seems right on the line and radiating down intot he biceps a little. Worse on one side than the other. Any idea what I have going on? My ROM has actually seemed to increase a little and no apparent loss of strength, everything else seems to be fine as far as lifts.

Re: 2023 Training Goals
Man I really feel like we are dealing with the same or very similar issues here, my symptoms are basically the same except I have less ROM. It's so confusing - I feel it in the front, down the outer side of the bicep... 2 days till PTHardartery wrote: ↑Mon Jan 16, 2023 8:55 pmHi Bench guy! Re: 2023 Training Goals
So glad I'm not the only one!
Goals for me?
1. Continue to be happy
2. Be healthy and (mostly) fit
2. Lift consistently
2a. Look like I lift
2b. 315lb back squat (285lbs the other day for a 1@8, so I suspect this is achievable)
2c. Get my 225lb bench for reps back
3. Run consistently
3a. Sub-hour 10k
3b. 25 minute 5k
4. Achieve and maintain close to 205-210lbs while not losing too much strength in the process
5. Cook delicious foods more (new cookbook for a Christmas present has been helping!)

Re: 2023 Training Goals
My ROM still sucks, it's just better with less warmup now. It hurts after bench day, one side worse than the other, and almost seems to move around a little. I am having no measureable negative effect on any lifts so far, it bothers my sleep the first night after benching though. I thought I had maybe broken scar tissue, but I really am unsure. Maybe I am just breaking up more scar tissue every bench session, maybe I strained something, maybe I'm just old. I am curious to knwo what your PT says.cgeorg wrote: ↑Tue Jan 17, 2023 6:43 amMan I really feel like we are dealing with the same or very similar issues here, my symptoms are basically the same except I have less ROM. Re: 2023 Training Goals
Max's at the end of 2022:
Squat: 305
Bench: 205
Deadlift: 455
Press: 120
Basically the entirety of 2022 was focused on building up my Bench and Deadlift (it was a great success).
I'm taking the same approach this year with Squat and Press - hoping to increase my Press to 135 and my Squat to 345. I think both are very doable. Already did a 125 press with at least a rep in the tank, and recently hit a 20 pound PR on my paused squat. Progress is fast and steady right now, and hopefully will continue for another couple of months before I need to change things up.
I'm also hoping the pressing work will have some bench carry over. Would love to get up to a 225 bench this year. If I can keep deads within about 20 pounds of my PR I'll consider that a victory since it's just not an area of focus right now. I did a double at 415 last week, so I'm within striking distance of that at the moment.

Re: 2023 Training Goals
Ha, I'm def not a hater, but I want to go into Olympic Weightlifting and bench press just isn't on my list of goals. I do include it in my programming tho.janoycresva wrote: ↑Tue Jan 10, 2023 2:38 pmbased bench press dislikerSSJBartSimpson wrote: ↑Tue Jan 10, 2023 2:04 pm Same as it was for 2022, 2 plate overhead press, 4 plate squat, 5 plate deadlift.
We'll see if this is the year!

Re: 2023 Training Goals
200 kg raw bench press. But this time in the Masters 70 class. But it should be much more painful than in the Masters 60 class...

Goals end of 2023
Press 280
Deadlift over 560
Squat 500
There is a press deadlift competition in November I have my eye on.

Yeah, no. Fuck all this for several reasons. Here’s what we’re going for:
Squat 275x10
RDL 250x10
Bench 240x10

Fuck all my lifting goals, I'm going to see if there are any marathons going on. I need a finishers medal to shore up my fragile ego.

Re: 2023 Training Goals
I'm thinking so. The place I run at actually holds a marathon in the winter, so it might be towards the end of the year but I think I'm going to keep going after I run 10k in three weeks or so and start training for half marathon and just maintain until it's time to start training for a full marathon. Or I could find something in like May or June but I hate hot weather and usually run at dusk so I'm not adapted to the sun lolhector wrote: ↑Mon Feb 13, 2023 4:28 pmAre you actually going to run a marathon?EggMcMuffin wrote: ↑Sun Feb 12, 2023 9:26 pm Fuck all my lifting goals, I'm going to see if there are any marathons going on. I mean I ran 4.5 miles yesterday and it seems like its doable. I went from severely underweight and squatting the bar to squatting 355 for a single so I more than likely have the balls for it, it's just that injuries are so much more common running. My knees are already bothering me sometimes.
