1. Run 2 miles a month
2. 16" left arm
3. Visible abs
4.
Follow a program as written
5. Bench PR
6. Deadlift 455
Might add more.
1. 11/12 done
2. Getting even smaller, even with weight gain
3. Gave up on it.
4. Done. It didn't help my goals, but I did it anyways
5. Getting even further away.
6. Pretty confident in this now or very soon.
Please excuse me being too lazy to try to figure from your log, but what do you think is the issue with 2 and especially 5, in light of weight gain? Something particular to do with the program that didn’t help?
Ancient curse?
Too many reps?
Not enough reps?
Lack of belief in Thromnus Borant?
I lost 15+lbs this year, weight starting to come back up very slowly. Not sure what my arms measured at my lowest weight.

I should’ve not been lazy and checked your log - didn’t realize you were coming off a cut. Questions answered.
Damn you for making me google Thromnus Borant.

May he carry the fridge forever.
I still think it's the ancient curse one.

Compete again (May at the earliest, Oct at the latest)
Bench in the 300's again
Incline benched a cautious but smooth with-some-gas-left 315 today... so I'm all out of goals now...
Proved to myself that (while fat) I am healthy enough to handle 315 for reps on flat bench.

No, 583
This was, like, 10 years ago at this point.
Should have said "150lbs from setting an all time PR."

Final run for the year (possibly) was a 7:30 mile.

2021 I wanted to find a good method of progression which I have done so I've got some modest goals for myself. My soft goals are to experiment a bit during the year. Get a respectable Front Squatting and maybe put Sumo in my next Base Phase to see what all the noise is about (still consider Conventional my main mover). Also want to eat healthier; been eating a lot of fast food and ice cream this last year and haven't even eaten a salad which I used to do every day in past summers.
Hard goals:
Squat 440 (200kg)
Bench 300 (300 club)
Deadlift 500 (500 club)
Press 185 (a plate and a quarter on the bar)
Latest 1RMs are...
Squat 415
Bench 270
Deadlift 482
Press 160
My deadlift is already 65lbs heavier this base phase than at this point back in the Spring so I should smash the 500 DL and my Squat goal is just 25 more lbs, but I think I'm going to try to focus more on my Bench and OHP this year as I continue to make up for lost time during my SS and Texas Method days.
Welp, only got one of the 4 goals on this list. Learned that setting exact numbers is kinda dumb and that i really have enjoyed hitting numbers on secondary lifts like Front Squats.

It's March and I am still fucking around and have not come up with any 2022 goals, despite thinking about this more than you'd think an adult should.
I did finally hit a 315 Bench. I lost 12 lb. I just deadlifted 460 x 3 sets x 5 reps, but it was on a Trap Bar, and I am unsure how to convert that to gauge against past straight bar deadlift PRs. I got my blood pressure back in normal range after it temporarily hit 140/90.
(Rant: I've come around to thinking Trap Bar deadlifts are far superior, and safer for my back, than regular deadlifts, so it's hard to swing back to regular straight bar deadlifts for straight bar PRs again.)
As much as I think the entire exercise is suboptimal, I guess my goal for 2022 will be the same as 2021 and 2020; I will finally straight bar deadlift 600lb.
My bench is so fair-weather that I'm not sure it makes sense to set goals. Traditionally, it has not been a regular process I could apply increased effort or improved strategy toward in order to reach a desired end state. It was always more a sort of grudge match that I showed up to, 3x/week, with no expectations. Just resolve and hope.
Though maybe now is different; I've started following Hanleys HVLF Bench programming.
Fuck it. Two goals:
(1) straight bar deadlift 600lb
(2) Bench 350
Did not accomplish either goal.
F.
I don't think the bottleneck is my training. I think it's recovery. And that's currently much harder to optimize.

I had set structured goals at the beginning of the year after watching the goal hierarchy episode on the SBS podcast. Didn't quite achieve the goals, especially the failed bulk - I'm definitely not good with RIR. Now I'm the leanest (and smallest) I've ever been, so hoping this sets the foundation for my very slow bulk starting 1st week of January 2023.
Also lol at the steps and average sleep, guess when the baby joined the household

Well, seeing as I can almost squat normally again without my IT bands hurting for days, I'd love to get back on track and squat over 200kg in 2022 without needing to get too much bigger/fatter.
Nope. Squatted 185kg and just missed 195kg in June, got injured again, have only low bar squatted 4 times since. Sigh.
Other than that... eh, just to keep making some kinda progress would be absolutely fine with me. I might be close to a 300lb bench now, so let's just aim low and hope for a 140kg bench and 250kg deadlift next year.
Closeish. Got 137.5kg and 240kg respectively. Got another injury and haven't benched heavy for a while now either. Winning at life.
Oh, and get more jacked, maybe get beach lean for summer.
Not beach lean, but I'm reasonably happy with how I look. Happened to see a photo from December last year the other day - I'm just a kilo or two lighter but the gut is clearly smaller and I have a very blurry 4 pack in the right conditions.
Let's hope next year things improve. At this point I'm just happy to train consistently in whatever capacity I can manage.

1) deadlift 500 at 180lbs~ BW
2) 100lb weighted chinup
3) run a half marathon
4) make some friends
5) fail really badly at 4
6) kill myself
Without the usual over the top depressive posting - I accomplished none of this.
This was a rough, crappy year.

Stretch goals
4) 20 chin-ups, even if they’re neutral grip and kinda cheaty.
I just did 21 neutral grip chins at a bodyweight of 205. Pretty cheaty too!
Thinking about trying Murph today

I’m glad you didn’t get #6.
#1 is just a matter of sticking it out and not giving up. May take multiple years. Took me several, and at a higher body weight.

I mean you had to accomplish at least one of #4 or #5, yeah?
Seriously, I know we’re not what you mean, but you’ve got friends here, a whole group of people who legit are invested in seeing you have a way better 2023. I feel good about your prospects.

Earlier I wrote a somewhat longer post that appears to have been swallowed, so please excuse my getting right to it: wtf did you do? This sounds like kind of “recomp” about which I fantasize, to have my 160 lbs. abs at something not nearly so much less than my current 205 lbs.

Trained consistently and ate less.
I mean... that's the TLDR; but the truth is it's probably the first full year I finally managed to completely stop binge eating and get in a good solid routine with my nutrition. 2021 was a big improvement but I still had some bad patches.
I might be overstating how I look, too. Definitely not lean. But my chest is bigger than my gut and that's a win.

@EggMcMuffin I'm pumped to see you reach your goals this year and get that 405 squat. I hope this year treats you well as @DCR said. Go make those gains.
